Project Educate: Being a People PersonSo you've got the equipment, you've got the top notch camera, the lighting, the studio, the backdrop and even the perfect weather - everything you need for a portrait photography shoot right? Wrong. The key behind all photographs that contain a living and breathing subject is to have the natural look. Just like the key to a conceptual shot is having the idea, the key to portraiture photography is having the eye. I have especially found in the past, that people develop a pained and strained look on their face when the camera is pointed in their direction. Interestingly enough, it happens more often at Weddings. The bride and groom quite often develop the look that they might have when they've just finished writing out the cheque for me to photograph their big day...
Then, quite suddenly one day, I got it. It was when a stunning bridesmaid at a wedding lifted her hands in front of her face and squealed when I clicked the camera in her

It's a great thing that you want to critique other deviant's works and help them improve their skills through your constructive feedback. By critiquing fellow deviant's works, you are developing your critical thought and vision and thus, developing yourself as an artist. However, critiquing is not all about pointing out what others did wrong. As ChewedKandi has pointed out in 'How To: Critiquing Artwork' "a critique is giving your opinion in a constructive manner about a subject - be it a piece a music, a piece of art, the meal you've just ate and so on."
That's the main point of this article: to share a few pointers on how to give a quality critique while providing links to a compilation of useful guides that focus on this very same topic.
Introduction: Let's start!
First things first! You've come across a piece of art that caught your attention and

one easy thing to make your feedback more effective (and less time consuming)!
①Why Use Resources?
②What is a Resource?
③How-To Use Resources?
④Where to Find Resources?
For us critics (and artists/teachers too) part of the thrill of providing feedback is finding that unique insight we can provide on a piece. Whether it's some gem of color theory that applies to their painting process, or analysis of a stanza as the development of a complex metaphor, we value originality in our critiques. In all honesty, it's the discovery of a relationship between the artwork/critic/artist

It's not just the artwork that tells you something about it's creator - on the internet, the way you present it is at least equally as important. Your painting can be a masterpiece, hanged in a local gallery, but as long as you post a blurry, badly cropped picture named "1564873" along with "..." in an artist's description, nobody will ever bother visiting your gallery. Creating a nice, representative profile page and setting a certain visual quality standard takes extra time and effort, but if you really care for your work (even if it's just a hobby), you should treat it with some respect.
I've already written a related article called The power of context that tried to explain how to place your work in a context in order to better connect with your audience, this one is focused

Oh the crime! That poor coffee going to waste.
Before you hit the Caps Lock button and begin an essay about the drop of quality of DDs, stop. Take a deep breath, maybe walk around for a bit to cool down, and think about what you're going to do. To begin with, complaining about the DD leaving a comment is extremely disrespectful for the artist because most of the time, they didn't even ask to be featured. Instead, take a moment to consider why was it picked, DDs are chosen for far more than just being visually attractive, as the article Daily Deviations - The Myth and the Legend explained; we often look f

Starting with dA CSSBack when CSS was allowed for journals for the first time there had been only a few deviants like ClaireJones, Lilyas or kuschelirmel-stock who provided free skins for everyone. Through the time more and more people enjoyed working on CSS skins and we also got the chance to skin our galleries.Starting with dA CSS3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
These days, and thanks to the great resources about journal and gallery CSS that have been created, it is possible for nearly everyone to code their own skins and/or to share them with others. Still there are many people who struggle with some basic things, which is why we want to focus on some of them here.
Where can you use CSS/HTML
On deviantART you can only use HTML and CSS on your journals, group blogs, your custom gallery folders, as well as your groups' galleries.
When you customize your profile widgets you can't add CSS or HTML like you can for journals/galleries. All you can do is using existing dA code that can be re-us

This article is an exploration of a common question on DeviantART in the Literature community; "How do I get more views?" If you read all of this you win a pony.
Lately there has been a lot of discussion around the site about ways to expand the literature community and the visibility of literature on the site. It has been noted that a lot of people believe that site changes by the DeviantART team will help them get more attention for their work. It has also been noted in the past that when new features are instigated (such as more html, better thumbnails and stash) that people often interpret whether or not they have a direct positive effect on their own views as a way of telling if the new feature is worthwhile or not.
It has been suggested that the community and individuals therein should themselves take more responsibility for creating opportunities and maximising poten

Still Life Stills Features: AutumnAlready it is September and here in the UK the first signs of Autumn are beginning to show after a last ditch attempt at the sky trying to give us some decent sunshine this year.Still Life Stills Features: Autumn3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
What to you defines the start of Autumn? Is it the weather, temperature, smell, trees, animals, food? For me this year it started with the sudden drop in temperature and the wind picking up. Then the skies started to darken and the first leaves fell. The biggest change for me this year though now that i am deeply into baking and food photography is the end of the summer baking. No longer are with summer berries for cool and refreshing desserts, instead is the turn of the warm and hearty.
There is an interesting article on Autumn on Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autumn definitely worth checking out if you are an Autumn lover.

Walkthroughs, alongside tutorials, are always an excellent way to learn. It's really helpful to get educated through a tutorial which tells exactly what to do in a detailed way step by step. However at times what is even more helpful is to actually see the artist in action, there are things you need to see get done by yourself and here is where walkthroughs come into play.
There's always something fascinating about seeing the different stages of the creation process of a piece, and you can always learn from the artists and adapt part of said process to your own.
Besides showing part of this process through images which show the different stages of a piece, and
