Common Arguments regarding Ex-Atheists --Debunked. 1. There is no such thing as an "ex-atheist".Common Arguments regarding Ex-Atheists --Debunked.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
An ex-atheist is an individual who has abandoned the atheistic view of the "absence of belief" in a deity. I am one of them.
2. Ex-atheists were never atheist to begin with.
This is false. Atheism has no ideology or guideline in terms of who is a "true" atheist and who isn't. The closest thing to a "guideline" in terms of anti-religion is regarding "Dawkins Scale" representing the various levels of atheism depending on one's confidence level. But even then, there are flaws in the chart that go against reality terms of theism. To say that another individual was never an atheist before coming to religion after they proclaimed to be so is unruly in itself and only encourages that atheism is more like a religion rather than a freedom of religion. This is said because Christianity and other religions do have a guideline determining how true followers will handle doubt in face of a belief system or the

The Call of Cthulhu (for beginning readers)Howdy friends,The Call of Cthulhu (for beginning readers)1 year ago in Personal More Like This
There has been an exciting development!
A couple of months ago, the folks at Chaosium Inc. [ http://www.chaosium.com/ ], the publishers of the Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game, confirmed their desire to publish The Call of Cthulhu (for beginning readers). When I received word I immediately began revising the now almost two-year-old text and illustrations to ensure that the print version is of the highest possible quality. I am currently about a third of the way through this process, and thought it would be good time to let you all know that the oft-requested dead tree edition of this story looks like it is actually becoming a reality.
I continue to be grateful for the encouragement of the folks around here, and I look forward to updating you all with any further news as it arrives.
In the meantime, I'm posting up the pages of The Statement of Randolph Carter (for beginning readers) I was working on when the word came through from Ch
One Reason....... why I try not to comment about people's weight. One Reason...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I used to attend a particular conference on an annual basis, and so I got to (casually) know the other "regulars" who also used to be there. Every year, more or less, I'd see the same group of people at the speakers' dinner, and we could catch up on the usual "what are you up to these days?" kind of stuff. One of the guys I used to see fairly often was a tall heavy-set fellow (some might call him "fat" or "obese") he'd always been tall, bearded, and big, to me. But one year, he showed up and he had lost a lot of weight. It took me a second to recognize him, and I said, "Hey, Rich! You look great! You've lost a lot of weight!" and he looked at me and deadpanned, "Yeah, pancreatic cancer will do that."
Do I need to belabor the point? I will. First off, I set myself up for a massive head-fuck, by making assumptions about what was going on in someone else's life, and - even though I was being friendly about it - I was horribly wro

160 years before the events of Pokémon as we know the today, the regions were caught in the web of ever rising conflict...
Rival nations, Johto and Kanto, have been competing for centuries. At times the tensions have risen to the waging of wars between them. Bad economics, unscrupulous trade, spreading disease, and idea theft has been enough to spark high tensions between these two.
Recently, an unknown Pokémon (Mew) has disabled all the automated weaponry on both sides. (However machines are still usable, such as cars.) Being stranded without weapons, both countries have seen a lull in war. It has been 30 years since the last all-out war, but there is still enough mistrust within living generations to spark the fire. Moreover, the independent actions of occasional guerrilla fighter skirmishes keep tensions high.
In fear of their neighbouring country, Johto sought out a new form of protection: Pokémon.
Up until now, people lived in fear of Pokémon.

McDonnell was charged last week with illegally accepting gifts, donations and luxury holidays from businessman Jonnie R. Williams Sr totaling $165,000 dollars in return for lending, “the prestige of the governor’s office to Williams’s struggling company, Star Scientific.”
Before the allegations emerged, McDonnell was seen as a genuine contender for the 2016 Republican nomination and a potential foe of Hillary Clinton.
This was followed on Friday with the news that Dinesh D’Souza, director of the hit 2012 documentary 2016: Obama’s America, had been arrested in New York for allegedly violating campaign finance laws for donating more than the legal limit to the campaign of Wendy
Sketchbook Pro 6So most of you know that I'm a Sketchbook Pro user.Sketchbook Pro 62 years ago in Personal More Like This
A few days back, Autodesk released Sketchbook Pro 6, and I think this is the version that's going to make a lot of people who have YET to experience Sketchbook Pro in full, or haven't really given the past versions a chance, switch over to making it their digital drawing software of choice; heck, even their PAINTING software of choice.
We still have the cleverly-designed user interface, that makes it easy on the eyes and mind when we're brainstorming and sketching. With the handful of new tools introduced, we still have a clutter-free drawing environment, and man, there's some awesome tools this time around. I'll go down the list:
The Brush Library
The main brush toolbar itself has a click-and-drag function, allowing you to store all your often-used brushes in each of the "lanes". You then can click the button on the upper-right and then a fu

Edward Snowden Interview with German TelevisionThe former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden appeared Sunday night in his first extended television interview. Citing published statements by unnamed US intelligence and military operatives calling for his assassination, he warned that he faces “significant threats” to his life and that US “government officials want to kill me.”Edward Snowden Interview with German Television1 year ago in Personal More Like This
The interview, broadcast by the German television network ARD, was largely blacked out by the US media. The New York Times carried not a word of what Snowden said, while the cable and broadcast news programs treated the interview with near total silence.
The American media’s reaction stood in stark contrast to that of both broadcast and print media in Germany, where the interview conducted with Snowden in Russia was treated as a major political event.
The interview itself was preceded by a segment dedicated to Snowden on Germany’s most popular news talk show, with commentary delivered before a sizable live te

Actor Robin Williams Is Dead at 63 of Suspected Suicide
Aug 11, 2014, 9:36 PM ET
By LESLEY MESSER
The Oscar-winning actor and comedian Robin Williams died this morning in California. He was 63.
"At this time, the Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but a comprehensive investigation must be completed before a final determination is made," the Marin County Coroner said in a statement. "A forensic examination is currently scheduled for August 12, 2014 w
Pick Your Poison BrainstormingI've been thinking about a somewhat detailed scenario, Pick Your Poison, where every major ideology rules a great power, while every minor ideology gets some minor powers aligned to one of the great powers. I'm dividing the world into four blocs, with each bloc corresponding with a corner of the Political Compass test because it's a nice, neat way to arrange everything. The other major aspect of this scenario is that every state is a hellish dystopia based on the most unforgiving straw men their opposition has drawn up. Everyone's sacred cow gets thrown on the grill. If you don't have a sense of humor about this sort of thing, I suggest skipping it (or at least the parts about your blessed bovine). I'm thinking of a PoD sometime before the fall of the Soviet Union (China stays somewhat Maoist before going full crazy later) and a current year in 2115, so modernish states are front and center with sPick Your Poison Brainstorming1 month ago in Personal More Like This

MISSOULA, Mont.—The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals today heard arguments from both sides of a lawsuit alleging that Congress acted unconstitutionally when it removed wolves from the endangered species list and cleared the way for wolf hunting seasons now underway in Idaho and Montana.
An attorney representing the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and other conservation groups presented oral arguments supporting the Congressional action, wolf delisting and science-based, state-regulated management and control of wolf populations.
The court is expected to issue its ruling soon.
“We’re hopeful for a quick and favorable ruling, especially since a lower court already ruled against the plaintiffs

Brother Against Brother - House of Cards meets Game of Thrones meets Jericho meets The Walking Dead (without the zombies). An increasingly tyrannical United States government, under a power-hungry, Machiavellian president (a Frank Underwood expy) goes too far and does something intolerable (Canceling elections? Arresting opposition? I dunno). A popular movement, from the left, right and center, calls for the President's impeachment. Things escalate, and a protest in Washington turns into a bloodbath. The United States is plunged into a new civil war, with many military and police defecting to the rebels' side. And of course, while the rebels are united against the government, they have very different views on what should emerge from the rubble.
The show would be very gray vs. gray morally, with sympathetic and utter bastard PoV characters on both sides. PoV characters can be leaders, foo

Atheism is Racist 101Or "Why "universal human values" don't belong in a scientific worldview".Atheism is Racist 1014 years ago in Personal More Like This
Though I've veered into the topic for a few times, I decided to extrapolate on the innate hypocrisy of most self-proclaimed atheistic thinkers.
Problem with atheism, is that in most cases it tends to come with a flourishing bouquet of naive liberal ideas, that are more emotionally fuelled and based upon vague philosophical concepts of morality, humanity and so forth, than cold and hard scientific fact.
The uncomfortable truth that the militant atheistic icons such as Dawkins and the rest of the gang, tend to glaze over, is that a pure, science-oriented, disillusioned mindset is far harsher than any religious or "bigoted" ideology when it's applied to the state of humanity, and races, today.
Let's not even delve into such slogans and thesis like "everyone is equal" and "human rights are universal", since they are anything, but related to science.
Let's just look at the evolutionary theory to uncover how atheism is

Ya know, I honestly don't think kids should be artist. Well no, what I mean is I don't think kids shouldn't be on DeviantART. I personally think so because it doesn't seem to do any good. I really think that they should bring the age requirement up for DA to like 22 or something personally. It just seems like kids here cause way to much trouble. Drama, bad art/Bases, things just getting to personal, to many arguments, at time suicides, just to many stuff. And it always seems to be with teenagers and stuff. This is DeviantART, not Facebook I think to myself sometimes. Things are getting way to social to me. I won't excuse myself out of this whole equation either since I'v been known to stir up a l'il trouble at times, but that's neither here nor there.
But I can't say its all teens here on DA. And by that I mean that there are few (oh so very few) teens that I'v come across on DA that seem incredibly professional, and even because of t

The United States Congress is proposing two laws that address the problem of wide-scale unlicensed distribution on the Internet of motion pictures, songs, trademarked goods, and patented pharmaceuticals.
One of the proposals is called SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and would direct search engines in the United States to block Internet sites outside the United States that are primarily engaged in distributing unlicensed content.Another proposal called PIPA (Protect IP Act) would block websites located in the United States as well. The Obama administration is putting a stop to these proposals. It wants the Internet companies and the content companies to get together and come up with more functional and less destructive solutions.
