understand a painting study dont just copyThis is purely an observation from my point of view but whenever i see a study or painting based on a masterpiece or a screen plate. The results are almost in every case very good.So this tells me that our ability to copy is quite good and its not really required to be a high level artist.Junior level to mid level ones can pull this off easily too. Everything you need to know is already in the image we are trying to copy so it becomes a recipe for us.understand a painting study dont just copy3 weeks ago in Personal More Like This
the important thing though is to not "copy" it but to understand it and deconstruct a work method from it.And if you understand that then the work based from your own mind will be alot better.
When i see this kind of work , for me its not the level of detail and accurcy that one puts in the copied artwork that impresses me, but the images based on that learned knowledge afterwards. And to tell you the truth not many people understand this knowledge or are aware of how important it is to understand it.But the interesting phenomenon is that

Paint Tip: The Final Stretch(I've been posting these on my Facebook page on a semi-daily basis. Hopefully some of you will find these small painting tips helpful as well.)Paint Tip: The Final Stretch3 weeks ago in Personal More Like This
Getting close to finishing a painting but it seems like its taking too long? Make a list of the things you need to do to finish. That way you can keep on track and focus on going through the list instead of pausing and trying to remember what you were going to do next. It's easy to forget certain details you had in mind especially with complex images. Keep adding to that list as things will inevitably pop up in your head.

CS 5 Brushes downloadI get questions about what brushes I use every now and then, and since Mega is giving away so much free space I thought I might as well throw them online. I'm not sure if the texture file is embedded correctly, so if these brushes are missing texture, please let me know and I'll upload that as well. For comparison, this is what a sample stroke from the third to fifth brush ought to look like (the first two brushes don't have a texture, one is the default hard edge round, the other is similarly standard) : http://i.imgur.com/zE3oOqx.jpgCS 5 Brushes download3 months ago in Personal More Like This
ANWAY, YOU NEED PHOTOSHOP CS 5, or higher, in order to use these brushes. Any version below won't have the 3D brush feature and I have no idea what will happen if you load these brushes into CS 4 or lower, but I'm assuming they just won't work. Sorry.
If you DO have CS 5 or higher:
