Pleasant dreams kept Makota company as he slept in the hospital. He dreamt that he was back at the South Pole, with Kupo as a puppy, and him as a young man. It was before anything in his life had gone wrong; he didn't know Konoka yet, he wasn't hurt, his father didn't drink... His eyes opened and he sighed. Staring at the white walls of the hospital. He felt much better than he had the day before on the operating table, but he was still very sore from both his surgery and wounds from the fight. He looked next to him and found a glass of water, then smiled. He bended it around, making it into snakes, dogs, hearts, amusing himself before he drank it. He frowned when he did. His mouth tasted like blood. "Gross..." he muttered. He yawned, then looked around the room to see if Gui or Jingfei was there to keep an eye on him.
He had at least one thing right. Jingfei was there, sitting next to his bed, Kupo's head resting in her lap. When she saw Makota stir, she sat up straight with a smile.

"Uh... are you sure about this?"
"I really, really, really don't think that this is such a good idea."
"Oh come on you nilly fillies! This is a great idea! We'll get our cutie marks in no time."
With timid eyes, Applebloom looked down to the hap-hazard bed of pillows and hay resting a good twenty feet from where they were. Attached to a couple of trees sat a taut, thin line of wire. Currently, the three of them stood on a thick tree branch, a few balancing sticks resting in the crook above their heads. It was a sunny day in Ponyville, and the three Crusaders had left class, eager to try out Scootaloo's newest scheme on how to get their cutie marks. The only problem was, as young Sweetie Belle and Applebloom were starting to figure out, most of Scootaloo's ideas usually ended badly. And sore. However, she swore that this would be different. After all, what was more important than staying balanced?
"Listen, Scootaloo," Sweetie Belle began carefully. "Why don't we at least try this

Of two things, Axis was not quite certain of. For one, he had no idea that he, one of the highest ranking courtesan in the Teahouse, was being forced to go shopping on his day off. And of the second, he had absolutely no idea why he was being forced to go with Rory of all people. He felt like he had been commissioned to babysit the kid, and quite frankly it got under Axis's skin. Although, this could have been punishment for upsetting that rich bastard that had come by just a few days prior. Knowing Atros, that was probably what it was. The two whores walked along the crowded street, the shops all open for a perfect day of browsing. All kinds of smells wafted through the air, promising delicious foods and other snacks to those who wanted them. Children ran about the streets, little toys and such in their hands as their mothers watched fondly. Off in the distance, the faint song of a street performer was heard, setting the scene for such a lovely afternoon. Axis scowled at every perfect

ONLY THE INTRO PARAGRAPH ISN'T FUNNY... RAWR
First, let us ask ourselves: What is a "Mary Sue"? By definition, a Mary Sue is "...a fictional character with overly idealized and hackneyed mannerisms, lacking noteworthy flaws, and primarily functioning as a wish-fulfillment fantasy for the author or reader." At least, that's the definition on Wikipedia. In layman's terms, a Mary Sue is, simply put, "the perfect you." She (or he, "Gary Stu"s will be discussed later as they are indeed different) is your perfect get away. A succinct and completely flawless rubber suit for you to wrap yourself up in, and escape reality for a few blissful turns of the page. They're constant pop ups all around the internet. Mainly, in fan-fiction and fan comics. But they've also popped up several times in published and printed media as well, and not just in recent novels like Twilight. We may not know it, but Mary Sues have been around us for years, perhaps even centuries. What we further don't s

The Cake Theory
"Baby Cakes," the latest episode for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, evolved our understanding of the Equestrian world in more ways than one. Now, thanks to pony genes, we're able to see how two Earth ponies can give birth to a Pegasus and Unicorn without any immediate relations to ether race. Answer: Recessive traits. Thank you 8th grade biology! However, there are some questions that still need answering. I personally have a theory that pertains to each Cake baby, so let's slice right in!
Now, we're all familiar with Twilight Sparkle's struggle to learn and advance in magic as a young filly. In the episode 23 of season 1 - "The Cutie Mark Chronicles" - where we see her struggle to even turn a page with magic. And that's with the enormous amount of studying she puts in. The spring day was warm, its gentle breeze softly swaying the long blades of grass to and fro. The field itself sat beneath a wide open sky, and just under the foot of an elaborate manor. It was two stories with a third, small attic on top, its windows housing many different rooms and hallways. Its Victorian pillars and iron balcony railing sat gracefully against the solid backdrop of the rest of the home. The field seemed to act as a back yard of sorts to the mansion, a small wood skirting its edges. Currently, a horse was galloping its way around the vast field, its rider a young boy no older than ten. He was a striking lad, with dark hair that framed his firm, matured face. His riding clothing consisted of long, leather boots, and a dark tailed coat to match. In between was a pair of white riding pants, its fabric seeming to be perfectly ironed out that morning. His name was Xanthe Atros. The young master of the Atros estate.
"Xan... Oh Xan enough of that riding!" Pausing his horse,
