Piranha-class Corvette: (see alternative version with blueprints: [link]
A Piranha-class Corvette is a small, fast, highly manoeuvrable and lightly armed warship. It was originally conceived of as an escort and ‘chaos mitigation’ vessel in combat, operating as a flak and pursuit ship capable of intercepting and destroying fast attack ships (FAC) and large missiles, as well as providing electronic and physical countermeasures to the fleet by obscuring and misleading ranged attacks. Its inexpensive build cost, speed and rugged nature, plus the inclusion of a multi-purpose mission pod (ventral), saw its combat role expand quickly, first as an FAC, then in interdiction operations, blockade-runs, and black ops.
The Piranha favours ablative armour over shields in order to maintain maximum reactor power to engines and weaponry. Large groups of Piranha, called Swarms or Frenzies, have been used successfully to prey on commercial and military vessels, including lightly guarded capital ships. Their speed and manoeuvrability allow them to slip under the effective range of heavy guns and create a significant level of chaos.
It primary uses light to light-medium kinetic and energy weapons. The mission pod can accommodate 1-4 missiles, depending on type, or a single marine craft.
