Dirty minds see dirty images... *update at bottom*It has been said that the human mind can imagine things a lot more detailed when it has to fill in the blanks.
Being shown something in plain view, our brains just process it as "something".
But when we are looking at something that is either censored, out of view, or concealed, our brains are boggled with the possibilities of what is being hidden - the imagination takes over and it can be "anything"!
That is why naughty images which are censored seem naughtier.
The off-screen monster which we can't see seems scarier.
The Christmas present which is wrapped seems more special.
With that being said...
Does that means if an image is offensive to someone, even though nothing is being shown, they are thinking more dirtier thoughts than others?
I have to admit that an image of lightly concealed female nude - using clothing or body positioning - can seem a little more erotic to me than a flat out photo of a naked woman.
So... does that mean this image of a redhea

Couple of days ago I came across a series of notes & quotes made my various Japanese artists on how to improve drawing. This was not really an article per say but more of cut & paste collection from different source, so the artists had very different background varying from manga-ka, animators & illustrators (including general illustration). While some of them did have specific approach in development, majority of them had 1 thing in common. Which is to weight the practice in quantity, in other word "draw as much as you can".
To me this was rather obvious cause I some what went through this practice earlier in my as I became so called "Artist". (Well that's what people call me and not what I personally feel...) Although the difference is that initially I didn't do it because I wanted to improvement but I just picked up pencil because I like drawing. But in any case their was couple of
Free Artwork is not something I doAnd you shouldn't either.Free Artwork is not something I do8 months ago in Personal More Like This
I only direct your attention here because I receive a LOT of requests of for free artwork, whether it be logos, character design and sometimes even graphic novels all intended to be for free.
I'm a working professional making a living with my art. So clearly I won't be doing art for free, when it's my job to do it. BUT, I also support the idea that even artists who work freelance or even just as a hobby shouldn't work for free.
Please check out this video by Stephen Silver who explains this way better than I ever could

Premium Content PublishingSo DA has gone and launched a new feature called Premium Content Publishing.Premium Content Publishing2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Basically it allows you to sell your artwork and products such as brushes, stock photos.. well whatever, via DA using the points system to earn real money ... eventually. Along the way DA takes a 20% cut of the sales price. (Hey - gotta finance that private island somehow!! --> http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=§ion=&global=1&qA+island#/d1wlypl)
So, the way it goes is that you upload your high res art file via sta.sh and then offer it for download. A person who wants to buy it, pays you in DA points for which you can then get converted into paypal money (after 14 days) and eventually you can access via paypal into real money in your bank account.... sounds great huh?!!
Ok, now lets consider the fees and costs of this thing..
First off a 20% cut is VERY VERY high. I've done some looking around and other art sales sites take a 3 - 10% commission... not 20.
Secondly DA also makes more money by making people

OK, this isn't a rant, but if you're gonna use this thing, be VERY careful. I personally think it's a bad idea, but this isn't my world. Yeah, this kinda system definitely works for music. But for visual arts though? Mehhhhhh....
It reminds me of this "Mr. Krystal" guy who, a while back, asked if he could pay me $20 for the high-res file of . That's how much I sold the prints for at that time! PUHLEEZE. I wanted to reply and say "Sure, for $20,000; and you can do whatever you like with it".
I just wouldn't upload a very high resolution piece of artwork to sell. That's just personally handing someone a paid invitation to come and throw it up on mediafire or piratebay. Or better yet: print it out and going to conventions to sell. That's the problem with digital art compared to original traditional art. You can't really sell it. Making an atte

Publishing ScamsCopied and pasted from my blog since deviantART's been having this problem for a while now. I had meant to post something on this matter back in October since it was when I noticed more and more "publishers" like this popping up on the site, but never got around to it. Of course, with all of these unprofessional publishers coming out of the woodwork again recently, I thought I'd share what I shared on my blog here.Publishing Scams8 months ago in Art Features More Like This
What is a scam publisher?
Essentially, a scam publisher is a press that cheats authors into believing that they are getting traditionally published by their rules and guidelines. However, if you read the fine print, you'll see that "traditionally" publishing you is not at all what's happening. This can range from promising royalties which never come, making you pay a fee to be published, or even stem from lack of professionalism. While the term "scam" usually means forcing you to pay, there are many other

Recently, i was watching the latest Nostalgia Critic video when i glanced at the comments, which i rarely do. I noticed there was some internet troll named "Timmyjinguro" who was repeating, over and over, that Doug's work is in decline, everything he does is simply awful, and he should just give up and fade away. Most people see this as random trolling -- oh, look at the little troll, he's just being rude to piss people off and spark lively debate, he doesn't really mean it. Don't feed the trolls!
And i'm sure that's true in a lot of cases. But ultimately, there's a real mental phenomenon behind internet trolling that honestly troubles me. See, i hear people involved in education say that kids these days, they've grown up in this horrific, media-saturated world of zero tolerance, automatic grade promotion, and strict dress codes, and are so neurotic that they have

Today, I want to talk about Groups. I’m a member of so many groups and I always encourage my friends to join as many groups as they can, a group is always a great place to meet new artists and let everybody know what you do.
But, I’m sure that you guys notice every now and then that there is a group that is not active or it has been around for a long time and it has so few members, or a group that doesn’t respond to their members and so many other problems. There are so many groups people create them just for the sake of creating a group and they leave them just like that, with no activity at all.

According to one of our polls at Traditionalists, there are many people who don't know how to suggest a Daily Deviation - too many, really. In this article you'll learn all about suggesting DDs: it'll be focused on Traditional Art category, but the general rules are the same for all the categories on dA.
So you've just encountered an outstanding work - or had one for ages in your favourites - and you'd like it so much to be seen by everyone on dA. Before you suggest anything, you need to check if its author had a DD within past 6 months, as one deviant can have only 1 DD per 180 days. How? Add "dds" to their profile address, so:
username.deviantart.com would turn into username.deviantart.com/dds
You may also reach that page by clicking "browse" in deviant's gallery (top left, between "feat

The Search of the HummingbirdOnce there lived a hummingbird who loved to gaze at stars. The Search of the Hummingbird2 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
She breezed through days, awaiting the rolling summer nights, which unfurled like velveteen highways.
"Hello, star," said the hummingbird one evening. "You are the loveliest sight in the world."
"I am not a star," replied the tiny light. "The stars are what you see hanging there above you, far overhead. The stars are not real. They are the past, the once-was, the no-longer. I am a fire fly. We are the now."
"I never knew," marveled the hummingbird. "Tell me more."
And so the hummingbird and the fire fly conversed until the dawn. The next night the hummingbird returned, and the night after, and after again. They talked of air and earth and all between, of stalks of wheat and distant thunder.
"How do you know so very much?" asked the hummingbird.
"It is not I, but the light within me, that knows," said the fire fly. "Light knows. Darkness also knows. It is the spaces in between which do not know."
"I, too, wish to know," said the
On Detailing CharactersOn Detailing Characters4 years ago in Reviews & Guides More Like This
"Your need to tell me absolutely everything, as if every tiny detail were just so integral to the plot, was supremely annoying." You can always tell when an author has gone through many drafts, and when an author has gone through just a few. There are many details that work their way into writing that don't necessarily have to be there. Some of these unnecessary details may offer seasoning to the story---mood, tone, or serve to draw attention to something specific; just be careful, as too much seasoning can ruin the flavor of your soup. You don't want it too bland, but you don't want it too salty, either. This is what makes being a writer nicer than being a cook; you can add more detail or edit superfluous detail out without destroying the piece, whereas a soup might be ruined with too much fiddling. By trial and error, you can find a good balance and I encourage you to experiment this way. To play on one of Gandalf's quotes: "A good author is neither too detailed nor too sparse, but p
An Argument against All-CapsThe problem:An Argument against All-Caps2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
As a writer you have certain obligations to your reader, obligations that if left unmet are grounds for the reader to set your work down for good. One such obligation is to do all you can to make your piece readable. This involves ridding your work of typos, smoothing out awkward phrasings and transitions, and otherwise. If there is anything you can do to make the reading process easier, you should make it happen.
Thus, we come to the issue at hand. In writing, it isn't uncommon for both professional and novice writers to stress words or sentences by capitalizing every letter. It often expresses shouting. For example:
Janette pushed him away and said, "DON'T touch me!"
Leonidas shouted, "TONIGHT WE DINE IN HELL!"
This type of emphasis has been criticized throughout the years fo

It's an awesome story about <subject>. I'm currently writing the script for it, but I'm planning to make a visual novel. I can't tell too much about the story, since I don't want it to be copied, but it's going to be really cool. The point is; I need illustrators. I'm an excellent writer, but I can't do illustration at all. And therefore, I wanted to ask for your help. I need about 60 pages illustrated and colored. Would you work together with me on this one? I don't have any money to spend, as I'm not an established writer yet. But when the visual novel gets published, you can get a percentage of my profit.

So one fine sunny day, quite a few years ago, as I was about to cross a big roaring traffic cursed road,I found myself beside a tiny wisp of an elderly lady. Clad in a simple white saree which stated that she was a widow, she was standing there beside me with a frazzled look on her face.
As I spotted a pause in the rush of the traffic, the old woman along with me put a foot out in the venture of crossing the road, but were rudely scared back to our spot on the divider by a speeding car.
Mind you... it is a sorry state of affairs one gets to see on average Indian roads - the lack of traffic signals and blissfully careless pedestrians.
By this time the traffic sergeant who was on duty suddenly appeared on the scene. O
Why Can't Warner Bros Get Their Act Together?Over the weekend at SDCC, Warner Bros announced that the new Man of Steel sequel will also feature Batman. The team-up movie will be followed by a Flash movie and then a Justice League Avenger's style team-up movie. This has a lot of people scratching their heads and wondering what exactly is wrong with DC and Warner Bros respectively. Why Flash and not Wonder Woman? The doctors convened around the table around the young woman that they were to examine. There was not a single thing upon the woman's flawless body to suggest that such a thing had happened. She was perfect.
Don't know. She just was.
That's not evidence, Doctor.
I'm aware, Doctor.
They ran their hands along her body and tried to inspect for needle marks. Perhaps it was with the needle that had caused her death. No, there was nothing there to suggest such a death.
They opened her mouth with their plastic hands to see if there was any sign of poison. Her mouth might have been damaged from the chemicals. Yes, perhaps that was it.
The results are negative.
Yes, Doctor, negative.
They looked at the girl's body again. She seemed peaceful and very much alive. She looked like she was just sleeping. She was taking a nap, that was it. But the doctors were smarter than that and studied her further.
