deviantaRT is applying to manage a new Top Level Domain called .art
Top Level Domain (TLD) is the technical name for ".com," ".net," ".org," or ".fr". These TLDs are controlled and issued by a worldwide organization called ICANN, short for the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. When ICANN announced that it would accept applications for new TLDs, deviantART quickly realized that someone would try to nab ".art."
DeviantART is committed to have the .art TLD in the hands of representatives of the arts; people who know something about the Internet and the way art is presented and enabled by the Internet. Nobody has more experience with this than the deviantART community that we are all building, participating in, and sharing with each other every day.
In order to secure .art into the right hands, deviantA

You are always welcome to draw something for Katie, but I'm no longer offering art back. She is better now.
Please consider ing this journal if you support it; it may get more exposure, which would give Katie more art.
...So, as my scrap-watchers know, my little sister Katie is sick. (I mentioned it here for those who wanted to leave her a comment.)
Well, her cough worsened and today she is in the hospital with Dad. Her fever hit 105 degrees Fahrenheit, but it is lower now and she is getting the best care that they can give her. It's pneumonia again, and she'll probably be in the hospital for several days before she can come home.
Among other things, she took her Kindle Fire with her, so she has internet access—i.e., I can e-mail her a link to this journal.
Edit: Katie's internet access at the hospital is not very great, so she will be seeing all these pictures when she arrives home! Dad believ
Can someone explain "renders" to me?I've been bumping into this more an more so I decided to share my RAEG.Can someone explain "renders" to me?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
So there is this group of people on dA who take some already existing art and cut out the backgrounds. That's all. They find some artwork, usually anime fanart, cut the background out, add their own watermark and BAM post it to their galleries as a free to use stocks without the permission of the original authors.
What's most infuriating there is almost always a disclaimer such as this one :
Oi, dumbfucks! Yes I'm talking to you. Why should anyone credit you for something that you did not create. You've contributed nothing. You've cut the background out, something that in most cases, can be done basically automatically by a computer program with a little to no human assistance.
The whole dA's category for stock renders is flooded with this shit --> http://browse.deviantart.com/resources/stockart/3drenders/
I'm sorry but I was under the impression that a render is a 2d image generated from a 3d
London HQ Devmeet: The taleWhat do you get when you have 500 stress balls, the unpredictability of the Great British weather and a large park in the middle of London? A HQ devmeet of course!London HQ Devmeet: The tale2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
500 emoticon stress balls, 10 plushies and 500 sharpie pens is a lot of stuff to carry to London from Derby, but is worth it!
Being late for breakfast means you can politely steal Heidi’s toast to have with your cup of tea.
If you arrive 10 mins late to a very large devmeet, expect a huge crowd of people already there.
Some people do dress up in full cosplay. It is fascinating. I counted 3 Dinosuar type things, a fox person, lots of hats and “ears”, at leat 2 pikachus, a Mexican wrestler, and some very short skirts!
Giving out free balls/stickers/lanyards/pens etc to lots of people makes you feel a little like a seller at a sports event! Or a primary school teacher!

Preparing for NaNoWriMo Part 1We may only be one week into October, but November and NaNoWriMo is just around the corner. If you've never heard of it, NaNoWriMo is short for National Novel Writing Month. That means in the span of thirty days, participants will write 50,000 words.Preparing for NaNoWriMo Part 12 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
1,667 words per day if they're writing every day.
2,273 words per day if they're only writing on weekdays.
6,250 words per day if they're only writing on weekends.
Either way it's a pretty hefty feat, and not something to walk into unprepared. Even if you're a "by the seat of your pants" type of writer.
So this year, instead of doing a basic what is NaNo and who's going to participate in it journal, we're gonna switch it up and give you some pointers on what you should be doing and what you definitely shouldn't be doing before and during NaNo.
The best place to get advice is from the people that have tried NaNo. Notice how I didn't say "and succeeded?" T

:iconohnoesplz:The new possibility on to start a donation pool is almost a dumb feature.More amd more people send notes or beg on the artist's pages for points.Mostly these are people you don't know, who never faved or commented anything you've made.
1 point is one cent. Will they really sell their pride for 1 cent? Just wondering.
The next step is to sell their souls. There are some guys on DA who sell their faves, features and comments for points. For 200 points, they fave your complete gallery, give you a feature and watch you.Is this the way should work? I don't think so.Can someone really be glad about faves he bought?
DA is a commercial page, and that's okay. But it shouldn't have so much "commercial" users.
I don't mean the users who start a donation pool to upgrade their groups. This is something that

Sans serif — Italics & weights
In the previous article of the typography series I presented some of the basic principles of type design and we started designing a geometric sans typeface such as Futura. In this article we will expand that typeface and add italics and alternate weights. Or rather, I will show you how to design italics and briefly present how you can modify your regular weight typeface to create alternate weights rather than having to re-draw the whole letter.

Sans serif — Roman
In this article/tutorial I will show you how to design a typeface. I will cover the basics and show you how to design advanced letters as well. There is so much I can talk about though, so if people like this article I might expand on this with future articles and get more into detail. I will only cover the design though, so you will have to research how to do the spacing and programming and turn your typeface into a usable font—or wait until I might do an article on that as well, but I don’t have such an article planned anytime soon.
What will we design?
I will first show you how to design some basic letters for a geometric sans typeface like Futura, because it utilizes geometric shapes, which is always my starting point for every typeface regardless of style. O

Welcome to the next installment of A Week in dA Related!
A Week in dA Related is a weekly news article series that aims to bring you the most important and fun deviantART and dA Related news from the previous week. It also includes a handful of features from the gallery that were submitted in the last 7 days.
If you have any deviantART Related news you'd like to share, shoot a note to bradleysays.
This issue covers May 14th to May 20th, 2012
From the Writer
First of all, I hope you all had a splendid week. There were some exciting new changes on dA this week. The one that most of you should be already aware of are username changes. The deviantART community as a whole seem to be split on whether it's beneficial to the community. I'd really love to hear what you think about it all.
Another major thing is our dA Related CV, namenotrequired has taken over another g

Good NewsI'm excited to let you know that Autodesk, Inc. has made an investment in deviantART and that one of Autodesk's top executives, Samir Hanna, Vice President of the Autodesk Consumer Group, will become an observer on the deviantART Board of Directors.Good News10 months ago in Personal More Like This
Autodesk has over 30 years of history in helping designers create amazing things. You may know Autodesk for apps like SketchBook and Pixlr for drawing, illustration, and image editing, or for software like 3ds Max and Maya, which are used by the top film and game studios around the world to create fantastically realistic 3D characters, environments, and effects. Amazing fact: the last 17 Academy Award winners for Best Visual Effects use Autodesk software. Autodesk is also known for engineering software like AutoCAD, Inventor, and Revit, which has been used to design some of the world’s tallest buildings, longest bridges, and most incredible machines.
With the investment we plan to improve deviantART at a faster pace than we coul

Canon 5DMk2 in the lake...Last month I was out shooting by a beautiful lake, all in winter spirit with ice along the shoreline. This particular day it was extremely windy and the sky were just speedin' past like lightning, leaving beautiful trails of dust in the heavens.Canon 5DMk2 in the lake...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
So, I decide I wanna get the more "low" shot and walked down to the surface. I gently place the tripod, with camera attached to of course, two legs on the ice and the third on solid ground. Checked it twice, it was sturdy and would be still. Yeah...
Composition is set and placing of the 10 stop filter for a long exposure, check. I stand up and look around, as the camera screams beautifully with it's open mirror, soaking up every glimpse of light around.
The shot is captured and I see it's being saved down the card. As I lean to pick up the camera I see the third leg slip from the rock and down between the ice and rock, where there wasn't a hole 2 minutes ago! Of course this ice wasn't solid, after all.... dumb idiot.. It gently moved back and f

We Give a F*** How the Site LoadsDevelopers can be angry people sometimes. This is actually quite the understatement and dt is no exception to that assessment. With web development in particular, there are several moments during the day where we are astounded, perplexed, and irritated by why something works the way it does--often over things beyond our control like lack of uniform web standards.
