So this is my entry for the wacom contest, with lots of symbols in it^^
I really had to think hard about what my dreams for the future are. Firstly, because I reached quite a lot already(on my own small scale) and secondly, because things like a house in the country and publishing a children's book are quite superficial. I don't think they are what makes you happy in the end. So what I really want is to become rich, but not in the sense of possessing money, but rich inside. One day I want to belong to those people who really lived, who faced all aspects of life, the good, the bad and the crazy ones and became strong and maybe a little wise. Who did not break and have great stories to tell. That's my dream.
This is my entry for the Gears of War 3 contest. I found it interesting because since I was in the third grade I've loved character design and videogame concept art. It's something I've always wanted to do. I read the criteria and thought, "Man, I have to do this!" After looking for references and going through the Asset Pack, I found the Berserker and Anya to be the most intriguing, plus I just enjoy creating females more than males. The concept is pretty basic. I first thought of a versus screen like in a fighting game, thus the title "Anya Vs Berserker". I noticed in a lot of the concept art for the videogame the lighting was very cohesive for the characters, using lots of blues and purples. When approaching this piece I wanted to create something that seemed it belonged in the Gears art world. At first it was very hard to find good reference for the character and monster. Luckily, the game came out on the 20th and I was finally able to find good reference to Anya's back apparatus. Thank god cause it looked like a turtle shell at first! My favorite parts of the piece are the drool and blood, especially the cuts on Anya. I noticed she has a couple of bandaids on her right arm, so I created some nasty scratches to kind of explain why she may have those bandages. (Not sure if there's a real reason in the storyline or not but I guess I just took some artistic liberties.) Overall I'm really happy with the piece. My husband, Marcus, thinks it's my best yet, so we'll see how the crowd responds! Not sure how long it took to create. I worked on it off and on over the past couple weeks when I was off work. Photoshop CS3 Burn and Dodge tools are my friend!
-Please view it in full size to catch all the details. I have it on my wide screen TV and its pretty cool seeing the image that big.
* EDIT: I added my name to it since so many are downloading it... would like for people to know who made it
Pencil on grey paper, heightened with white, 25" x 16".
UPDATE: The drawing was not selected for the finals. Well, actually it's obvious I haven't done it for the contest. I always loved the Alice illustration by John Tenniel and like a lot of artists wanted to do an Alice theme at some time. It has nothing to do with the current movie and therefore it did not quite match the guidelines for the contest but the contest came up when I had it almost finished so I entered it anyway. Usually I could not care less about competitions. Art in my opinion is not about competing. Although I would not have minded the prize money here...
This is my completed artwork, for the Wacom Bring Your Dreams To Life! Contest....
I was thinking, of some designs or concepts on what i was going to enter, and several came to mind...but i didnt want to do the whole fantasy - science fiction bit, so i went with something that is happening to alot of small schools across the country....BUDGET CUTS!!!, and some schools are stopping the arts/music programs in schools...Which is very depressing if you ask me...Where will creativity come from??? So this is my dream after seeing what budget cuts are doing to schools....There is a huge pile of money donated by a special someone....hee hee hee, so they will not have to shut down the art and music classes...
Just think where would we all be if there were no art classes in schools???
All artwork created using Autocad for design, and Photoshop CS4 for the coloring.... Took way to long to do..........LOL
Artwork scaled down so people can view it..
Original Artwork Dimension is 2700 x 3300 @ 300dpi
