Makorra - SelflessnessEverything was so out of control.Makorra - Selflessness3 years ago in Drama More Like This
Korra'd confessed her feelings towards him after their last match, and he'd shot her down flat without giving himself a chance to really think about the situation. Now he was sure he'd never forget the way her face had fallen, the heartbreak that she'd tried to hide swimming in her ocean eyes not for as long as he lived.
On top of that, Bolin was practically head-over-heels for the girl when she'd already proved she didn't return his affections, at least not to the same degree. The earthbender was just setting himself up for a letdown, and it killed his brother knowing that nothing he said would change Bolin's mind.
And as for Mako well, he wasn't really sure how to feel about everything. He'd gotten out of his fair share of messes before, but never anything like this. So many different thoughts and emotions were spiraling through his mind that it gave him a migraine whenever he tried to unravel them.
There were very few things Mako could

Mako stared down at his girlfriend, one eyebrow quirked skeptically.
"Korra, are you sure about this?"
The waterbender lifted her head to meet his gaze, unwittingly sending a jolt straight to his heart. She rolled her eyes at him, and Mako marveled at the amused glimmer in those pools of blue.
"Of course I'm sure." She shifted so that her legs were crossed beneath her on the wooden floor, hands resting on her knees. "It'll be really cool, I promise."
The taller of the two huffed irritably. "Yeah, that's what you said about penguin sledding when we were at the South Pole."
"Oh come on, you didn't hit the ice that hard." Her lips twitched as though she were fighting a smile. "And I healed the bruise afterwards, didn't I? Just trust me, Mako. Nothing can hurt you in the Spirit World, anyway."
Mako pinched the bridge of his nose, sighing as he mulled it over. That morning, Korra had come barging into his room on the boys' side of the island while he'd been

After I take your bending away, you will be nothing.
Arms tightened around bent knees, hands clutching fistfuls of dark brown hair. She exhaled shakily, forehead pressed against her legs, eyes shut tight.
Finally, you are powerless.
Sweat dampened the back of her neck, stray droplets marking trails down the edges of her face. Teeth dug into her bottom lip, the pain doing nothing to distract her from the entirely different agony ripping her apart from the inside.
I told you I would destroy you.
The corners of blue orbs began to burn, and she blinked away the tears forcefully, nails clawing at her scalp. She refused to cry. There was still a sliver of hope; Master Katara still might be able to fix things, to make the world right again. As long as she had that to cling to, she would hold in her emotions, retain what little strength she had left.
Amon had already stolen everything else from her.
A quiet scraping reached her ears, the sound of the door sliding

"Yay, we're home!" A small, little girl sounding voice screamed.
Sitting in the saddle was the Airbending master, Tenzin and his family. His younger daughter, Ikki jumped down from the saddle, with a little boy, with shaggy brown hair hanging on to her back. She formed a small gust of wind to lighten the impact.
"Come on little bro! I'll show you your new room!" She said excitingly, and then started off running toward the boys' dormitory.
"Hey! You can't go to the boys' dormitory Ikki! You're a girl!" Ikki's little brother, Meelo shouted as he ran after his older sister and little brother.
"Meelo, Ikki wait, you need to be careful with Oh what's the use?" Tenzin began to shout, but gave up when he realized his hyperactive children wouldn't listen to him.

"Mom! Katara won't stop trying to Waterbend me!"
"Yeah, well, if you weren't tryin' to set my hair on fire I wouldn't have to!"
Korra sighed from where she was sitting, placing aside the baby on her lap to her shoulder so she could give both of her older daughters disapproving looks. "Both of you, stop! Can't you just practice forms peacefully, like your brother?" The Avatar pointed over at the window at her side that presented the picture of her only son standing on the patio, practicing his Waterbending forms without a care in the world, undisruptive unlike his sisters.
The two girls blinked at their mother and then at their brother, before Saki rolled her eyes and opened her hand to reveal a ball of fire forming in her palm, which was sitting dangerously close to a strand of dark hair that belonged to Katara. Feeling the heat at her side, Katara screeched at her mother and then the pair took off again.
Korra sighed heavily again and was about to stand up to stop t

A cool night breeze whistled through the grounds of Air Temple Island, carrying the scent of salt and sea spray. Trees rustled in the quiet air, leaves brushing against one another and branches whispering together. Stars glittered overhead, and the moon cast a silvery glow over the island, throwing shadows into sharp relief, bathing cobblestone paths in its light.
Mako tugged his scarf up around his nose and mouth, hoping to keep the chill wind at bay. He shoved his hands in his pockets, following a winding trail out beyond the walls of the Air Temple to the cliff side overlooking Avatar Aang's statue. His soft footsteps added their rhythm to the sounds of the night, beating out their own tune over the rushing of the waves along the shore.
Earlier that evening, before everyone had retired to their rooms, Korra had stopped him on his way to the boys' dormitories. She'd had that glint in her eyes that Mako had learned almost certainly meant mischief, and he hadn't been

The little footsteps grew louder as they approached Mako. He could feel small hands grip on the bed covers and pull on them. The small child was struggling to get on top of the bed and Mako wanted to laugh, but he knew that if he did, it would give away the fact that he was awake.
The child finally pull their way up and crawled on top of Mako's chest, taking no note of making sure that they weren't hurting the middle aged Firebender. The little toddler then roughly sat down on Mako's chest, making him grunt in pain.
"Daddy, it's morning wake up!" The toddler shouted as they began to beat on Mako's chest with the palm of their hands. They then crawled forward and stared at Mako's sleeping face while pushing out their bottom lip in frustration. "Daddy, wake up. You have to make brea

It'd been nearly two days.
Two days since they'd found Korra, battered and exhausted, splayed over the back of her faithful polar bear-dog. Since they'd brought her back to the Air Temple and the healers had checked her over, patching up the worst of her injuries and prescribing plenty of rest for the others.
And in those two days, Mako had yet to leave the Avatar's side for more than five minutes.
Asami sighed as she leaned against the doorframe of Korra's room, watching the pair quietly. It was painful to see, really, the way Mako's thumb traced gentle patterns on the back of Korra's hand, the worry that glittered in his amber eyes. The bags under those eyes hinted at just how little sleep he'd gotten in the last forty-eight hours; the thought made Asami's stomach twist uncomfortably.
She tried to imagine herself in Korra's place, attacked and kidnapped by an insane bloodbending politician, and then rescued by her friends and one very smart canine. If it was her lyi

A high-pitched squeal ripped through the cold tundra air.
"Hey, that's cheating!"
"No it's not!"
"Uh, guys ?" The older of the two boys present hovered near the pair of arguing siblings, his bright green eyes flitting between them anxiously.
"You can't waterbend snowballs at me!" The other boy ignored the interruption, his small hands curling and uncurling at his sides. Snow coated his dark brown hair and dripped down the back of his fur-lined parka, soaking him.
"Yes I can!" His sister stuck her tongue out at him, sapphire gaze glittering with mischief. "Just 'cause you'd melt all the snow if you firebended doesn't mean I can't waterbend!"
"But that's no fair!" Her brother crossed his arms irritably, pouting. "Nobody else can bend like you in the South Pole!"
"I can bend a little bit," the first boy piped up uncertainly, shuffling his feet in the snow. In truth, he hadn't actually tried to earthbend since they'd

Mako's life had never been a fantasy, something to desire. He was not privileged like many other people in Republic City, but he had what he needed and when he was young, his life was far from the tragedy that his growing years would become.
His parents weren't all that wealthy, but they were able to provide for the young boy. What they lacked in money, they had in love towards their son. They showered him with affection, always making sure they knew how much they adored him and how they would always be there for him.
Eventually, his little brother, baby Bolin, entered their lives, and was welcomed by each member of their small family. He had the green eyes of their mother, but the same tousled hair of the Firebending father, and though Mako was confused by this child's sudden occurrence in his life, he showed him the love his parents always gave him. He quickly grew attached to his little brother, vowing to keep him protected and safe no matter what.

He'd just come from a rather taxing session of Pro-Bending training with his teammates, and as usual, his mood had turned sour from the moment he'd walked into the gym. It wasn't the fact they had to practice at the crack of dawn because they were rookies that bothered him, nor was it the pressure of the championships hanging over their heads.
No, it was the newest member of the Fire Ferrets that'd been getting under his skin lately, one Avatar Korra.
Now, there were several things that tweaked Mako's nerves, but this girl trumped them all. He'd never met someone quite like her before, so brash and hotheaded and in-your-face. In less than a month she'd managed to come barreling into his life and destroy nearly every ounce of normalcy she could find.
Today's practice had been one of the worst yet. After the fiasco with the Equalists and Bolin being captured, Mako had stepped up the intensity of their team workouts, both for the tournament

Their screams, pain-filled and blood-curdling, traumatized the little boy listening to them, watching the scene unfold before him with wide eyes, unable to protect or help those burning in front of him.
His mother yelled something to him, though it was mostly swallowed up by the noise of the roaring fire surrounding them. She told him to flee before the same fate could fall unto him, but he didn't listen he couldn't. All he could do was stand there and stare, helpless.
It was only when his father, a man who had always been so strong, so invincible, fell at the hands of the Firebender that attacked them that Mako knew that he could no longer stay there, that he had to heed his mother's words and run before he was next. And so with confused, scared tears running down the length of his young, pale face, he ran and ran and ran until he could run no more, and he managed to drag his little frame into an alley before finally collapsing under the weight of it all, breakin

Mako sighed raggedly, heavily as he sauntered down the dark, dank alleyway and down the path of sidewalks with flickering lights. His arms and hands were still burning with the after effects of his Firebending just a few moments before, his mind racked with guilt.
It was just another assignment, Mako, he forcefully told himself, get used to it already. That's not how the Triple Threat Triad worked you either paid on time, or you suffered the ultimate consequence, and Zolt would see to it that you were taken out.
Despite trying to trick himself both emotionally and mentally, the Firebender knew he would probably never get used to it, hurting, killing people just for a profit, just so that he and his brother could survive yet another day. He put on a convincin

Just a few months and it was already so hard. Mako sat next to his 6 year old brother. They had been on the streets for 4 short months, and they were broke and winter was slowly approaching. They needed as many yuans as they could get for anything that could keep them warm during the harsh winter nights.
Bolin taught his new found friend, Pabu, as he called him, some tricks and left a jar beside him. Most people walked by and ignored them, some nicer ones dropped a few yuans. Everytime one of these people came by, Bolin yelled "Thank you, kind sir!" in his high, squeaky voice. Mako sat there staring at the jar and folded his arms across his chest.
