He’s a doctor! He’s a cat! What more could you want from this incredibly cute series?
I really wish I had more to say about this comic because I love it so much but... it’s just too damn cute! You can read the webcomic here: http://doctorcatmd.com/
All New Marvel NOW! - Ms. Marvel
I’ve mentioned this here before, but I’ll do it again. This series, so far, has been awesome. It’s only 4 issues so far, but it’s a romp to read and the artwork is imaginative and fun. The story details about a Muslim teenager gaining super powers and donning the attire of Ms. Marvel. Kamala Khan is a hilarious character, and you really feel her struggles to get use to her new predicament. Like I said, only 4 issues so far, so we don’t really know what direction this story is heading... but overall it’s been a blast. Strongly recommend it if you can find it. Marvel’s “ALL NEW MARVEL NOW!” comi
The E.T. Cartridge Landfill has been foundIn the early 1980’s the American video game industry bombed so spectacularly, that it was rumored Atari just dumped their unsold copies of E.T. in a landfill in the New Mexico desert. It’s been a longstanding folk tale of the modern video game industry. And now it’s been proven true. The E.T. Cartridge Landfill has been found1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Microsoft (of all companies) teamed up with a documentary filmmaker to go and explore the desert in the hopes of uncovering this legendary landfill of shitty games. And it looks like they were successful. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/134045-E-T-Cartridges-Found-in-New-Mexico-Landfill-After-30-Years
As cool as this is... I can’t help but feel a little... disappointed. And more or less it’s because the hard working Angry Video Game Nerd left his post of doing regular updates to start filming an actual feature film with the plot being uncovering the mystery around the legendary E.T. landfill. The AVGN uprooted his home life, moved to California for a year, hired acto

Ya see, It’s always surprises me when someone says that I’m becoming too preachy, when in fact I’ve been preachy from the beginning. Don’t believe me? Take a look below!
This is not a complete list by any stretch of the imagination, but these are essentially THE MOST controversial comics and illustrations I’ve ever done in the past 10 years.

I’m not really going to talk about the incident itself, but rather it’s effect upon me. In the following paragraphs I’m going to re-post my thoughts from twitter (with some additional clarifications since twitter is only 140 characters long).

Amazing Spiderman 2 Live Tweet CompilationI finally got to watch Amazing Spiderman 2 on DVD. Bad news is that it was so boring and full of tripe that I got bored with it. The good news is that I decided to live-tweet my experience watching it. I’ve compiled the event into this journal below, but you should be warned: there are spoilers. Though to be fair... the spoiler is from a comic written back in the 1970's so it really shouldn't be a "shock" or anything. -Watching Amazing Spider-Man 2 for the first time. It's... Pretty bad so far and I'm only 20 mins in...
-Can we have ONE defining character trait for Peter? He seems to keep flip flopping between snarky badass and whiny angsty teen.
-"Subtle" is not a word I would use to describe this movie. It's like they think you're an idiot and can't comprehend simple storytelling.
-You can tell Jamie Foxx a nerd cuz he's clumsy and awkward and has big glasses and a pocket protector. This 2014 or 1954?
-How did you go from doing a documentary of Ray Charles to this?
About that Phil Fish guy...So once again Phil Fish is in the news, and once again it’s about something “controversial” he’s said. Frankly, I don’t care what he said because at this point in Phil’s career... no one does. The only reason to post an article about Phil Fish is to drive up views and keep the conformational bias in check. “Oh look! Phil said something negative again! Yup! He’s an asshole alright! Herp derp!” ...ugh...About that Phil Fish guy...1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Before we go any further I want you all to watch this video. I don’t know if this was just good timing, but with this latest bit of “news” hitting the websites, it’s as good a time as any to step back and think about what’s really going on:
See, one of the reasons I don’t begrudge Phil Fish the same way EVERYONE ELSE does... is because I’ve been in his position. Fame, on the internet, is not the same as fame everywhere else. On the internet, no one is trying to see things from a different pers
Amazing Spiderman vs Trilogy + Public OpinionFinally got around to watching the Amazing Spider-Man (the first one not the sequel) and I gotta say... meh.Amazing Spiderman vs Trilogy + Public Opinion1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I mean, while I enjoyed the chemistry between Peter and Gwen, the rest of the film just... dragged on and on and there were some REALLY big gaping plot holes. You’re telling me Peter never once googled his own family name or tried to find out what happened to his family in the 12-14 years since his parents disappeared? Or what about that “searching the streets for his uncle’s killer” subplot that gets completely discarded halfway through the film? Or why on earth being turned into a lizard means you suddenly have aspirations to “take over the world?”
I also wasn’t fond of the way in which Spider-Man moved in this film. Going back and rewatching the original trilogy, Spider-Man is VERY agile and does a lot of gymnastics. The new one? Not so much. Plus I just think it’s ridiculous (both in comic and movie form) for Spider-Man NOT to

One of the reasons I focus so much attention on Marvel and DC is because they’re big companies who should know better. They are made up by hundreds of people all chipping in little bits here and there, and for that there is no excuse for bad artwork, bad writing, or bad material in general. They are, to an extent, a bit of a cheap shot, but everyone can learn from their mistakes and I can offer my opinions about them and what I personally would do differently. And if you’re paying money for their products, I think you deserve good content in return, no?
SYAC is, at it’s core, about how comic artists and the comic industry works and poking fun at the various things they get wrong... and sadly that includes a lot of really hot button topics like Women’s Rights, Sexism, Racism, Homophobia, etc. Comics are no longer their own sheltered little thing... they’ve been THRUST into the mainstream audience and all of these problems we or

Shading is when the flat colors come to life, light falls on the scene, shadows form, and magic glitters.
Twenty pages of Volume 4 are shaded and ready to roll- ten more, and the first Chapter will be done.
The shading is going at a good clip thanks entirely to Liz and our intrepid freelancers- THANK YOU GUYS! They're laying down the hours of work it takes to block in the flat colors, paving the road to a finished book.
And sometimes they add a little extra...

I have a twitter. I’ve actually managed to keep up with it at a fairly reasonable pace, I think. Primarily I’m using it now to comment on things that are too small to make it into my main journals, but too important to pass up. Most of the times it’s just me musing about stuff. You can see the twitter feed above my journal on my DA frontpage (I always list the last 5 posts there), or you can follow me here: https://twitter.com/ADobsonComics
Korra is all digital now
I don’t know why Nickelodeon decided to do this, but they’ve yanked Legend of Korra off the air and are going to be broadcasting the remaining episodes of Season 3 and all of Season 4 on their online streaming service

Or madam. As you prefer.
I have an update- the reports are true. Volume 4 pencils are done! Every story page in the book is penciled, and merely awaits color, your eminence.
Chapter 10 is blocked, and nearly all of Chapter 11. Chapter 12 is in the works. So I ought to be able to bulldoze in and start shading up a storm. I'm hoping I can KO about a Chapter's worth of shading every month.
To hit that stride, I'll have to take a break here and build a Prelude pad, KO a few commissions, try to get caught up on e-mails and... egads, when is the last time I replied to someone in the art accounts?
Bad, bad David.
I'm being stingy with samples from Volume 4 here because I want to avoid spoilers. But have some random art advice:
One of our freelancers was interested in how to draw fabric- what makes it look natural, that sort of thing. I doodled this up. The most helpful analogy we dis

At Sonic's house, Tails yelled out, "Hey Sonic!! Would you like to go swimming at the lake with me!?"
Sonic stared at Tails for a moment and replied, "Sure, I would love to go swimming! It's hard for me to find people to go swimming with me, because I am so fast! Let me get my surf board. This time I am making sure I teach you how to go surfing!"
Tails smiled and ran out the door. Sonic quickly went into his closet as he yelled, "Hey! Don't leave me like that!" As soon as he grabbed his surf board, he dashed out the door to go after Tails.
When Sonic got to the lake Tails was already in the water, spinning his tails like a propeller; which gave him the ability to jet across the water. When he saw Sonic, he called out to him, "Come on Sonic! The water is great!"
Sonic put down his surf board in the sand, "I suppose I can show yo

What interests me about this, however, is the way in which people are reacting to it. A lot of people are saying “good!” or “YouTube comments are terrible, so I totally understand why he’d do that!” Which is a little surprising to me... because of Anita Sarkeesian.
Now we’ve talked about Anita Sarkeesian before. She makes feminist videos dissecting tropes about women in gaming. As a result of her doing this, she’s gotten ungodly amounts of backlash and hatred. Since her vid
Critiquing Critiquing StoryStory: Turns out you're doing it wrong.Critiquing Critiquing Story10 months ago in Personal More Like This
Everyone is- and what's more, anyone who tries to make a foray into storytelling without having mastery over their efforts merits endless scorn.
I've had the privilege of sharing advice with some other creators of late, and seen some of the (usually anonymous) criticism being leveled at their work. It's noteworthy for being intense, superficially sophisticated, and misguided.
Now, there are two kinds of creators out there. Those who don't give a fig for what other people think, and dismiss all criticism out of hand.
...Those creators tend not to improve.
Then there are those who care about the quality of their work, take pains to make it enjoyable for others, and are receptive to feedback.
These individuals have the most potential as writers, and are also most vulnerable to their efforts being permanently deformed by vindictive critique.
They'll be assured their characters are flat cutout

Marcus led Hal out of his stateroom and into the dimly lit halls of the church. They slowly weaved their way through corridors and down staircases, heading seemingly deeper into the labyrinth that served as Marcus' new home. Hal's energy was spent, and he leaned heavily on his cane with each step, his head sagging with fatigue. His eyes, however, remained alert as they walked and he did his best to mentally map the route.
Marcus walked calmly and patiently, leading Hal by half a step. His footsteps carried little weight, and only the light taps of his own cane marked the time and distance spent. Those sharp yellow irises glanced sidelong at Hal. “It's fortunate that you are here, brother.” Marcus' voice broke the cadence. “I've been in a difficult position ever since Vanir brought Miri back with her.”
“What, is she too much for you to handle?” Hal half-smirked, but his dry wit lacked the normal keenness hidden behind the words.
Randy Queen vs EschergirlsI’ve covered this topic before in a previous journal, but since this is big news now I thought it best to reiterate it: Filing copyright take-down claims for the vast majority of outlets on the internet is frivolous, futile, and usually results in the exact opposite happening of what you intend.Randy Queen vs Eschergirls11 months ago in Personal More Like This
Randy Vs tumblr
Eschergirls, in case you weren't aware, is a hilarious blog where bad female anatomy (and especially the boobs + butt poses women often are contorted into) are put on display to be made fun of, but also for artists to show how simple fixes can completely change a drawing. It's a great website and I strongly recommend you watch their stuff.
For those who don’t know the story, Randy Queen (comic artist and creator of Darkchylde) has filed DMCA take down notices with the tumblr blog eschergirls: http://eschergirls.tumblr.com/ The reason, it seems, is that he didn’t like the idea of people critiquing his questionable anatomy of female characters

Unaware Bioshock Infinite ReviewI’ve never played Bioshock. Recently I got Bioshock Infinite and have started playing it. Since I am entirely new to the Bioshock “world” I thought it would be fun to write out my thoughts while playing through for the first time. Now there are a couple of things to know... first I am playing it on my MAC, and since my MAC is about 5 years out of date, it doesn’t run very well... even on the lowest graphical settings. I’m averaging about 10-15 FPS at any given time, which makes playing... a little different. Second, I’m not overly fond of FPS games in general, so my enthusiasm for the game might not be as high as you might expect. Third, my experience does not in any way alter your experience. If I did or did not have a good time, I don’t want people getting angry and lashing out for not enjoying the game as much as they did. First, one of the biggest issues I have with the storytelling of this game is that everything is told, not shown. You are told that Elizabeth has a relationship with the songbird. You are told you are actually Comstock. You’re told your character was a drunk and a bad person, but we never see any evidence of it. You’re even told that your character has “history” with another character who inexplicably is in the city and who is trying to kill you for, whatever reason... but there is no prior information indicating that there’s anything between you and him and we don’t even get to see him up close un

A dull tremor gently shook the floor, halfway stirring Hal out of his slumber. He lay in that murky miasma of half-sleep: barely even aware that he was no longer unconscious. It was almost impossible to wake any further on his own, and he lacked the willpower or energy to open his eyes.
“Hal.” He felt Miri's hand on his shoulder, shaking him awake. “Did you hear that?”
“Mmmm?” He rolled over, slowly forcing his eyelids to open. The room was dark and blurry to him, but Miri soon reached over to shake a glo-orb, and the needle of new light poked sharp pain into his skull. Hal winced, hoping his eyes would adjust quickly.
The room was well sound-proofed by design, so Hal couldn't hear very much of what was going on outside. He thought he heard the muffled sounds of commotion, like a violent argument was happening down on the floor down below.
