This was pretty fun to make once I've figured out how Luna's limbs should connect with her body The original file for this is HUGE MLP, Friendship is Magic and Princess Luna are trademarks from Hasbro Edit: Fixed her cutie mark
Well guys, ask and ye shall...oh, who am I kidding. I've been itching to draw her since forever. XD
Anyway, this is, hands-down, the most Photoshopped painting I've ever done. But there's Luna in it, so I guess it's worth the effort. It's no surprise that I went through a whole bunch of tutorials and references to get it right, though; a big thank-you goes to *Ric-M for this comic which inspired me to shade Luna the way I did: :thumb304795082:
Well it looks like a hoodie too haha. I liked her cloak from the Luna Eclipsed episode, and if I do draw a human version of her I'd definitely try and incorporate it.
So just taking it easy this weekend with more mixed media and ponies, like actual ponies xD I knew a drawing of Luna would be fun to work on with some custom washes and even ink spatters to suggest stars.
A prison for the mind, deep below the lunar maria, a few years before her escape; or, perhaps a turning point on the long path to becoming Night Mare Moon; maybe neither of these. I leave the interpretation of time and place to you.
Luna's canon tiara has always bothered me; I never really cared for the way it was just kind of stuck in her mane...it's a cartoon, sure, but the design felt bland too. While my version probably needs further revision, I tried to allude to qualities I find sharply defined in NMM: powerful and unrelenting; austere, but not without elegance; sharp, and dangerously beautiful.
Edit: minor change to composition. Edit 2: Her eyes were bothering me; I redid the ink & paint, and also made her horn better match her body size. MLP (c) Hasbro A special thanks to Lauren Faust & the MLP Team!
The picture I livestreamed tonight. I just added a white stroke to it as well, cause I thought it would look good and cause that's what there will be on the keychain, when it goes into production.
Anyways, Luna on the moon (literally ON the moon) is the first of many keychains I'll be selling at Genki con this August at my Artist Alley spot. If you're going to Genki, then gladly come say hi. I'm always up for making new friends. Just look after somepony in a Twilight Sparkle hoodie at one of the tables. And the ponies on the table of course, since I've also be selling custom figures and hopefully prints as well.
