hallelujah, my least favorite color kid is done! i always hated canary yellow as a kid and the years haven't softened my attitude much. she was so not fun to redesign and i rather dislike her costume, but oh well. she's done and that's all that matters!
omg, it's another color kid! how long has it been?
well, patty o'green is without a doubt the coolest color kid, and it shows. her redesign went over very well, and the scanner slaughtered the colors as usual. i find it funny that her polkadot bloomers are always showing in every picture of her i can find.
...i know i've got a lot of catching up to do with comments and journals and such. please be patient! i'll try and get to them in the next couple days!
good god, how many months has it been since i submitted buddy blue? nine? the lineart has been sitting around ready to go on this for several months already, so i just seem to have no motivation for this series anymore. oh well... only one more to go.
part of the problem with the huge gap between rainbow brite pics is that even if my technique improves i have to do it the same way as the old ones for the sake of consistency. this really sucks because there are quite a few things i'd do differently at this point. i also feel that indigo is the worst one i've done since canary yellow. kinda makes me ashamed to submit something that looks this bad.
...and why on earth is indigo the only one whose name is just the color? honestly.
i always loved what a rebel stormy was when i was little. she was so the coolest rainbow brite character.
this was a long neglected project. i did the sketch for this about a month after i finished the original rainbow brite pic. and that was, what, eight months ago? either way, for some odd reason i just sat down and finished it today. it's done exactly the same as the other one, but stormy got more radical costume changes than rainbow, especially since you can see a *gasp* bare midriff! i liked the whole torn edges concept, which worked out nicely with her cropped top. her skin looked like crap tho because of how grainy the pencil came out, so i tried to doctor that up a bit, and the background, obviously, is digital.
...PHEW! This took so much work! XD This is what I was mainly wanting to get to. I wanted to have all the color kids in a 'photo' in front of the Rainbow Castle!
Now a few things to say about each character, background, ect ect. Indigo has barely any pictures ANYWHERE online. It was very difficult to find a front view shot of her, so that I could accurately draw and color her in. I only found one, a very tiny smudgy picture. Buddy Blue I probably enjoyed coloring the least out of all of them, partially because I've never been a fan of his outfit.
I had the most fun drawing Patty O Green, Tickled Pink, Canary Yellow, and Lala Orange.
I had the hardest time drawing Rainbow Brite (probably because she was the first one I drew) but she also came out just perfect, so it was worth the work.
I colored the Color Castle, and all the Color Kids on Paint Tool SAI. The kids I penciled and inked on paper first, and scanned them in. The Color Castle took 4-5 hours to draw, and once again I was working off of tiny tiny pictures I could find online. I didn't make up any features though, I just expanded what I could see.
Overall, this picture took me.... three days of work altogether, and is probably the picture that took the longest out of my gallery. (Well worth it though!) And it took 30 minutes to an hour to decide exactly where I wanted everyone. Not sure what else to say, but thank you for looking at my picture, and thank you for putting up with all the Rainbow Brite fanart! How sad I've already drawn them. I may do more eventually.
Also, consider this a thank you picture for 70k pageviews, thank you all very much for the support!
i am once again stunned by my scanner's ability to utterly destroy the brilliant jewel-toned colors of the original...
in boston i was able to go to charette and get about twenty new pens, so i finally have the necessary colors to continue with the rainbow brite series! buddy has taken me the longest to color by far. i'm getting more fancy with my markers and, because of my limited selection, i had to shade with initial gray layers. pain in the ass!
I guess this is done a few times... I drew this out of boredom and wanting to do something. Took me couple of hours... I checked DA for few other arts like this after I drew the basic and the colors and saw I wasn't the only one who had the idea. Heh. I guess, every little girls who grew up remember those days of Rainbow Brites. I sure did! And I still got my dolls. ^_^ Thought she'd be cool as Sailor Rainbow Brite, and this was done out of sheer boredom.
After all, little girls grows up into a super heros.
