The Paper Chain Projectschongslipper sent us a message telling us about a project that could work in conjunction with The Butterfly Project. It is called The Paper Chain Project, and here are the rules:The Paper Chain Project3 years ago in Personal More Like This
1. For every day you go without self harming, add a colourful link to the paper chain.
2. If you relapse, just add a white link to to the chain and carry on the chain without any disruption.
3. Over time the paper chain will grow in length.
4. And you can see your progress, and see that even if you do relapse, the are still days you go without hurting yourself. The colourful links.
5. Over time and through your recovery watch the amount of coloured links begin to increase, and the amount of white links begin to decrease.
6. If you feel like hurting yourself, look at the paper chain and realise just how far you've made it, and realise that if you've resisted before you can do it again.
It is another great idea to help deal with self-injury. I hope some of you will give it a shot and I hope it helps you. &
Children's Literature, Morality + Changing IdealsIntroductionChildren's Literature, Morality + Changing Ideals2 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
With the invention of the printing press in the fifteenth century, and its gradual integration into society, people at last had access to literature. It was William Caxton who first saw the opportunity to make money by printing and selling those stories and fables hitherto told by word of mouth.
At this time, literature did not have age-specific target audiences. Inevitably, some stories appealed to children more than others. Robin Hood was especially popular, while Aesop’s fables offered entertainment and life lessons to adults and children alike.
It is, of course, impossible to say exactly when and how literature was identified as a useful tool in teaching morality to children. It is speculated that there was no concept of ‘childhood’ before the eighteenth century, although historians debate this, as historians are apt to do.

Colouring Book Pre-orders OPEN [UPDATE]Colouring book Pre-orders openColouring Book Pre-orders OPEN [UPDATE]3 years ago in Personal More Like This
UPDATE: 03/03/2011: Hi all and thanks for all of your patience~! I have a bit of news of the colouring book that isn't necessarily bad, I just need to change it a bit.
The tutorial that was to be included within the book is now being included as a pamphlet, rather than pages in the book. The tutorial is still in full colour and the same size as the book as originally planned, so you're getting exactly what you paid for, it just isn't stapled within the book pages.
The reason for this is because when I get a colour book printed, for example, say I have a 60 colour book and only 5 pages of colour and the rest are in black and white. Even if only 5 pages are in colour, I still have to pay for a 60 page full colour book. And that is *very* pricey.
I hope this is not too much of an inconvenience to everyone.
The books will be sent out by the 10th hopefully! Thank you everyone!
UPDATE 19/02/2012: Thank you everyone for your support so far!! I will be tak
Using Colloquialisms: Are you down with it? Colloqualism: You down with it?Using Colloquialisms: Are you down with it?1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
A word or phrase that is not formal or literary and is used in ordinary or familiar conversation. synonyms: slang, idioms, patois, dialect.
Examples: whatcha, gotta, face on, ovver.
I’m sure you’ve had a good telling off by your teachers for using colloquial language inappropriately in your writing. I’ve had essays returned with the word “too informal” scrawled along the margin or a big red exclamation mark next to a certain word, who hasn’t? What just me? Oh right… my bad!
So WHY would we use colloquial language in our writing, after years of tackling the angry red pen?
I know we’re not supposed to judge a book by its over – or a person by their accent – but it happens. You can tell us a lot about a character by the kind of language they use. Are they all gangsta, dropping hooded verbs

Contest! - Now Closed / WINNERSHi Guys, it's Contest Time!Contest! - Now Closed / WINNERS2 years ago in Personal More Like This
You may have noticed with the jewellery I have made over the past year or so that I add little stories and things to them, in this contest I'd love these stories to inspire you to draw, write or create anything based on these stories that I have come up with!
You're free to elaborate on these stories, add to them and draw inspiration from them, you're totally free here but you have a better chance of winning by sticking as close to your chosen story as possible c:
For example, if you like the sound of a character, you can draw that person or if you like a certain story and want to write more about it then that would be perfect!

SKIPPING WITH HAPPINESStoday has been the best day.SKIPPING WITH HAPPINESS3 years ago in Personal More Like This
i went to my Independent Research: Drawing class, which i signed up for late. so i didn't know quite what to expect, having not been to class yet. the only thing my professor told me to bring to class was a drawing i'd worked on or completed lately...
do you realize how vague that is? my mind went into overdrive. should i bring a large one that was more conceptual? should i grab a still-life? a comic? i was losing it. but then my dad, who is good friend with my professor, having been a grad student under his teaching, tells me to show my professor what i LIKE to do.
thus, i take the Hunger Games drawing i've been coloring, and a completed Blaire design.
i was so embarrassed when i showed him my cartoons, that i started rambling about how i'd like to go into animation, and he stops me. he asks me what materials i need to do that. i kinda freeze, cause i wasn't anticipating that at all. but then i spit out that i hadn't thought about anything spec

The Disney Vault - Snow WhiteFamed is thy beauty, Majesty. But hold, a lovely maid I see. Rags cannot hide her gentle grace. Alas, she is more fair than thee. The Disney Vault - Snow White2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I love this movie. Even though its not one of my favorite Disney movies, I have nothing but utter respect for this film. I proudly own the 'Diamond Edition' DVD, and I watch each documentary in the extras to learn about the production of this film. Because of this film, animation became a form of art and people respected it as such. 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarves' was premiered in 1937 (weeks after its completion) and people didn't know whether it was going to be a hit or bomb. At the end of the film, people were in TEARS including celebrities like Clark Gable and Shirley Temple. 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarves' made an impact in the film industry and society in general. This was during the Great Depression and this was the perfect film to lift the hearts of the crestfallen audience. Even if you don't like this movie, I feel that it should be re

Free Features!Hey everyone!Free Features!10 months ago in Personal More Like This
I am doing a free feature on my profile page! Yep! Absolutely free . No need to do anything for me, watch me, or even look through my gallery.
Feature box status: OPEN!
Oh and, I'd appreciated it if you'd faved this journal so that more people can see it
Because I am busy and still have school, I may close the feature box every once in awhile if I get completely flooded with notes (very unlikely to happen). IF THE FEATURE BOX IS CLOSED, DON'T SEND ME A NOTE FOR A FEATURE! YOU WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY REJECTED AND BANNED FROM THE FEATURE BOX FOR 3 MONTHS, NO QUESTIONS ASKED.
I will only feature an unnoticed artist. This does not mean that you have under whatever amount of watchers, but that you deserve more way more watchers for the art you have. (don't be shy because of this, I'm not that strict about it, I just don't want to feature artists with a whole bunch of watchers already)

SAVE THE ELEPHANTS: As many of you already know, I recently returned from a month in Thailand where I helped give veterinary care to rescued Asian elephants at the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai. Below is one of the elephants we worked with daily - an older female called Mae Tee.
Before she was rescued, Mae Tee worked for two owners who used her for illegal logging. The first owner worked Mae Tee throughout the day and the second drugged her and continued working her through the night. As a result, Mae Tee has problems with deteriorated joints along with foot rot and ulcers on her feet. Although she currently receives treatment from veterinary volunteers at the park, the veterinary wraps used to cover Mae Tee's rear feet are costly and need to be replaced twice a day in order to keep her feet dry and clean.

If there is ART that I need to get my butt back to work on, please remind me of what it is. NO this is not an excuse for you to make up a request on the spot and lie and say that I promised you said request. I may not always remember which things I still have to draw, but I know when someone's lying about something they claim I said I'd draw.
No. This is your chance to remind me of things I have said I would draw and still haven't gotten around to.
Remind me also if there are oneshots I've mentioned working on that I need to add to this list.
Update: Since a few of these things on the list have been done for a while, I'm going to go ahead and erase them.
Update: Primarily these all seem to be DC things. 8C I need to work on the list a little more, add a few things in there, etc.

You are a well funded, dull minded, cash carrying bit faker!
You are a scientific dollymop.
You are a blight upon this chapter of my life.
You are a flimp upon this scientific community!
You gulping fool!
I do believe your corset has been laced too tight; the thoughts flowing from your mouth best belong in your chest.
Had I ever a son like you, I would have been more prepared for such juvenile conversation.
Had I a father such as yourself, I would take it as warning that I should go simple as my years progress.
The concepts that pass my mind in simple flight would tax the capacity of your abilities.
