Transliterations: Modernising Myths So it's Valentine's Day here and I'm off to buy shoes to go with my posh frock for my fancy dinner because blue moons just come around sometimes, but I thought I'd pop in to remind you that there's approximately forty-eight hours left to submit something for the contest. So to all you stragglers, you revisers and last-minute magic-makers, you photo finishers: pull all the stops out, stop arsing about and get those entries in. Think of it as a Valentine's gift to words.Transliterations: Modernising Myths3 years ago in Personal More Like This
At the request of participants and for the sake of my own failing sanity, the Modernising Myths Contest will be extended by ten days. This means that the new deadline is February 15, giving you until the day after Valentine's Day to complete your entry--and if you still need more time, I suggest cancelling your Valentine's Day plans and finishing it then. Because we all know you love writing more than you love your partner. And if they're reading over your shoulder, I'm sorry, but they had to know som

So here we are, nearly three weeks after rounding up our biggest contest of all time and only three days after we said we'd get here, which has to be some sort of transliterations record. And it's nearly eight weeks since we first asked you to take your favourite myth, legend or fable and transmute its essence into a modern story. Forty-nine writers answered the call, knocking our collective socks off and putting a serious dent in what we laughably refer to as our free time; I have a newfound respect for judges everywhere, with the possible exception of Judge Judy. It was incredibly difficult coming up with just four winners--take a spin through the entries yourself and you'll see what I mean--but it's not a proper contest if it doesn't reward excellence, and so I hereby present to you:

Blind Winter Poetry ContestThe Blind Winter Poetry ContestBlind Winter Poetry Contest3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
With the winter comes a specific sense of appearance, be it snow, a frosty window and a fireplace, or blistering sun, the beach, and a cool drink. No matter where the location, the season brings a certain sense of familiarity...and we're challenging you to reconsider that familiar scene!
The prompt, should you choose to take it on, is to write a poem about winter as you know it. The challenge, however, is that you can't use the sense of sight within the poem. Deprived of sight, you'll have to rely on your other four senses as a means of describing winter as you know it.
Only new poetry will be accepted for this contest, so no recycling older works as entries.
All entries must be posted to the Literature gallery (not Scraps), though any subcategory in the poetry category is allowed.
Entries must be no longer than 50 lines.
Announcing The First Lit-Visual Alliance CONTEST!Announcing the first contest for theAnnouncing The First Lit-Visual Alliance CONTEST!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
What is the Alliance, you ask?
The Alliance is a project group intended to encourage visual and literary artists to work together. I've felt for some time that the dA Literature Community can at times be somewhat insular - to its detriment. We in the Lit Community are also sometimes prone to griping about the lack of exposure our work receives when compared to that of visual artists.
So. In the spirit of thorns brilliant Complaint Challenge I would try to do something about that. And so :iconlit-visual-alliance: was born.
As often as I hear literary artists complaining about lack of exposure, I hear visual artists complaining of a lack of inspiration and motivation to create art. And that, I must say, is simply nonsense. There is a massive amount of inspiration to be found on dA - and it's called th

A Letter To My Younger Self ContestAs the year begins to draw to a close, I'm keen to spark the inspiration and creativity that I sparked last year when the 'Letters To Me' contest was launched for a second time. Therefore I'm delighted to announce that for yet another year Letters-To-Myself is launching again. Please read the following rules and regs carefully.A Letter To My Younger Self Contest3 years ago in Personal More Like This
A Letter To My Younger Self
The idea is that you write a letter to your younger self - thinking about what you would say, what you wouldn't say. But as always with these contests, we're not just looking at the theme. There are prizes for creativity, inspiration, community choice and humour. I did mine a few years ago, and I have done a revisit since, and it does work. So if you entered before this contest and want to write again - please do. Just make sure your entries are fresh and new.
Start Date: December 1st 2011
End Date: January 14th 2012

On January 1st, I challenged everyone in the deviantART community to suggest a lot of Daily Deviations. I did this for two main reasons: A) `thorns told people to put up or shut up and I decided to listen; B) I was tired of hearing people complain about supposed favoritism surrounding whose DD suggestions are accepted by the CVs.
Well, you all rose to the challenge beautifully. Over 200 suggestions were sent into the CVs by the people that participated in my little challenge. I'm dividing the feature articles up into three sections over three days so we can all take some time to peruse and read the fine work you've all found this month. The results of the points drawing will be announced in the last article.

I started this morning by signing something "Moonbam13" so either this typo means I need more coffee, or this week is going to be BAMTASTIC!
I'm rooting for the latter
I wanted to post a quick update on changes to Daily Deviations. It is important to note that these changes have not been hard-coded so my team is manually following these new guidelines. This means that errors can and likely will occur until the coding is complete, your patience and understanding is appreciated
The following guideline changes are in effect:
The 3-month rule is now the 6-month rule, meaning that it must be at least 6-months since the last time an artist received a daily deviation. (This was an overwhelmingly popular suggestion from the community and I agree, it's a good one!)
Daily deviation selectors may only select one daily deviation per day maximum. This has been put in place to focus on Quality vs Quantity.

This is a small update on what's going on around the literature community, that's what this business is. The idea is to try and make the community more readily accessible for everyone, whether you're new or have been here for a while.
Please note: these updates will not be all-encompassing in terms of community happenings, as the community is quite frankly rather large. Instead, this article will focus specifically on things that are currently ongoing, or happened within the past fortnight.
