Shout It Out - How are we called? As Christians, I believe we have a higher calling to be light to the world, to be role models. And not so that we can be prideful or judge others, but to glorify God. (Matt 5:16)Shout It Out - How are we called?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
We are Christians because we have faith in Jesus Christ, but the Bible tells us that faith by itself, faith that is not acted out, is dead. (James 2:17-18)
I know life can get pretty crazy, but we should be encouraging each other to be the absolute best we can be. Other people should want what we've got going on. I've been thinking about this for a bit, so I got a couple points where I feel like us as Christians are falling short and can really step up our game.
And please, I encourage you to comment and give feedback. Where are you personally struggling? What advice do you have for combating some of these issues. Share with the group.

I’m certain there are people who dislike me. Some I come to know through whisperings because I have eyes everyyyyywheeeeere.
However, I don’t feel the need to acknowledge them or do anything about it unless they are causing any real harm, especially to people I care about.
There is a popular quote that I like referencing for this topic, which gets the message across in a charming way:
“You can be a juicy, ripe peach and there’s still going to be someone who doesn’t like peaches, so you can either submit to someone’s criticism of you, or you can get on with the business of being your own amazing self who attracts other like-minded people that appreciat

Style and Character "copying"srs bsn >:Style and Character "copying"3 years ago in Personal More Like This
It sadden me I have to make a journal about this.
I've been seeing people trying out stuff I do, and I'm cool with it. I feel honored people actually like my work enough to try these techniques themselves. I'm ok with the "copy to learn" thing. But it really bugs me when someone takes what you do, mimics it and claims it to be original...
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to sound pretentious or pompous. But it took me 10 years to get where i am and it hurts me deeply to see "copycats" telling they "tried something new they felt in the morning" when they clearly took a pic as reference and don't bother telling it was the case.
The way I draw is myself, my personality, my dreams, my thoughts, ME. Trying to copy someone's style is like stealing their personality, the way they live, think and see the world. Everybody has their own eyes to see, so why stealing other people's eyes when you can use you own?
If it can help you find your own style, then ok, try. But p

Taizo is off for a new face-up by my friend Alex who is graciously taking him free of charge. Everyone else will have to wait until I have some funds. LOL
I have been going crazy with my art recently and have found that most doll photography is very similar and not as inspiring recently, including my own. I am making a point to create images that are unique and inspiring, in hopes that the community can all start to improve together.
Here are some points I hope to emphasize with creativity:
1. Unique and interesting doesn't mean you need to stay away from the head shot.
2. Styling will improve your vision.

Essentially, I'd like to draw on your doll. :'D More practically, what this means is that I will work with you either to execute a design you already have, or come up with a design based on your ideas through preliminary sketches before proceeding on to the actual doll.
I can work in a variety of styles, from stylized and graphic, to more fully rendered and realistic. Some of my various painting and illustration work here can give you an idea of what I mean by this. However, I will say that I feel that I work best when I use pencil and pastel in conjunction with each other, rat

Daisy is my second self-made doll (I don't really count my very first attempts here, haha).
My first one was Sophie http://fav.me/d570qbl.
When making Sophie, I didn't take as many photos of the progress, which is why I wrote out everything about her making http://fav.me/d570qff.
This time however, I took photos of about everything. So I will show you how I made my dolls in pictures. The process was about the same for both dolls, I only changed the design. And this time I solved the "hair-problem" right from the start... by using Barbie hair. xD

An interesting idea I had as I was looking through my comments.
500 points being given.
If you don't really care about entering, just favorite this journal to be entered in to win 100 points.
The main idea is to make me laugh by using the simple doge meme on one of my photographs. It can be any of them; the choice is yours but it must follow certain guidelines.
Please post it to your sta.sh and post it on this journal.
Be original. (You can look to comments from inspiration but don't completely take the ideas there.)
If you have no idea what the shibe/doge meme is. Take this photo for example.
These photos utilize the the comic sans font, usually rainbow colors and text of varying sizes. Th
About Ciel & SebastianThere are a lot of enquiries on Ciel and Sebastian and I thought it will be good to jot them here and for some quick references.About Ciel & Sebastian3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Ciel and Sebastian are both Ball-Jointed Dolls (BJDs). For a quick explanation of what a BJD is, here is the Wikipedia's explanation:
"A ball-jointed doll is any doll that is articulated with ball and socket joints. BJD style has been described as both realistic and influenced by anime. They commonly range in size from about 60 centimetres (24 in) for the larger dolls, 40 cm (16 in) for the mini dolls, and all the way down to 10 cm (4 in) or so for the tiniest of the tiny BJDs. BJDs are primarily intended for adult collectors and customizers. They are made to be easy to customize, by painting, changing the eyes and wig, and so forth."
These BJD doesn't come with makeup, outfits, eyes , wig. The price quoted for these dolls is usually just the basic doll (head+body). To cut long story short, I have appended some information about them:

Recasting and counterfeited dollsLately, the recast issue is becoming a real subject of concern for me. I've seen people on flickr congratulate each other for the beauty of their recasted dolls and openly talking about the ones they were about to buy : I received messages of threats and insults when I pointed out that this was both illegal and immoral. I wondered if I had somehow stepped through the looking glass and now up was down and right was wrong !Recasting and counterfeited dolls2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
A few days ago, a fellow french doll artist, Lilycat (check her work, she's great), discovered thanks to one of her clients a whole facebook group dedicated to recasting her creations. She's taking care of it like the professional she is, through legal actions. But that doesn't make it okay. This is a SERIOUS issue.
Creating dolls is difficult and time consuming. For my own first prototype, I spent more than 300 hours sculpting, sanding, piercing... Which means that when I sell one doll, I get about 1.10€ per hour. And that doesn't even take into account the mo
The FAQ :: Updated 12/02/11ImportantThe FAQ :: Updated 12/02/114 years ago in Personal More Like This
Please take any questions related to buying from specific companies to the company websites, they all have Q&A boards for that specific purpose, from now on I wont be responding to such questions as I am not a company rep.
Please bare in mind that this FAQ is intended to answer questions that I get asked regularly about my own dolls. While I have been in the hobby for a few years now I can't claim to know everything there is to know about BJDs, especially when it comes to companies I have little to no personal interest in. If you do have general questions about BJDs rather than ones specific to my photography or my dolls please do a search over on DOA ( http://www.denofangels.com/forums/index.php ) first. I will attempt to answer any questions I can but please understand I never intended this as a question and answer about the hobby or doll buying in general.
If the below doesn't answer your question then please feel
Sad NewsWorst week of my life :cSad News2 years ago in Personal More Like This
A very aggressive URI took 3 of my babies away from me (I had already lost one 2 weeks ago)
I'm not very good at goodbyes in general but losing 3 in one weekend was too much (4 in a fortnight.) Anyone who knows me well, will know how much I love my piggies. Piggies are prey animals and hide their symptoms until their final stages. I spent my weekend trying to save everyone I could but I was too late.
RIP Twinkie, Fairy, Gucci and Jube.
I miss you so much already :c
I have 3 piggies left, all deemed incredibly healthy by the vet and for that I am thankful. I honestly thought I was going to lose them all.
Yuki, Pan-pan and Popple are still with me and we're mourning the loss of our friends together
I don't think i'll be around any time soon. If you need me, you know where to find me.
See you at the rainbow bridge girls.

What are these dolls?
These dolls are called Ball Jointed Dolls (BJD). A ball-jointed doll is any doll that is articulated with ball and socket joints. In contemporary usage when referring to modern dolls, and particularly when using the acronyms BJD or ABJD, it usually refers to modern Asian ball-jointed dolls. These are cast in polyurethane synthetic resin, a hard, dense plastic, and the parts strung together with a thick elastic. They are predominantly produced in Japan, South Korea and China. The BJD style has been described as both realistic and influenced by anime. They are made to b
