The midnight hour is close at hand . . .
Creatures crawl in search of blood . . .
To terrorize your neighborhood!
- Michael Jackson, Thriller
You decide what happens when darkness falls!
Is it macabre? Is it fantasy? Is it emotional?
It is up to you.
Welcome to our 2012 Photomanipulation Contest, "When Darkness Falls."
This contest is being held by Aeirmid and The-Sacred-Space.
We are grateful to Community Relations for backing this contest.
Any photomanipulator can join, and all are welcome.
Your task is to complete the sentence:
When darkness falls, _____
using a photomanipulation!
[In other words: Show us what happens when Darkness falls!]
You can interpret the sentence to mean anything you want.
It doesn't have to be dark or horror/macabre,
but it must be very clear that

Why University of California, Berkeley?A new school year begins at my university and I've been getting a ton of notes asking about why I decided to go there (instead of an art college), or is the art program there any good. Hopefully this journal will satisfy your curiosity and help you decide which college you want to go to.Why University of California, Berkeley?5 years ago in Personal More Like This
But first I would like to make an announcement to my fellow UCB art majors that my friends and I will be teaching a group study class on Digital Painting/Webcomics so if anyone is interested in signing up for the course e-mail the founder, Patrick, at firstname.lastname@example.org (we don't have a Course Control Number yet but we will).
On to the questions~~~
What's the art department like at UCB?
Since UCB is most famous for its science programs (where all the budget goes), the art programs are not the most amazing, but they are pretty good depending on what kind of art you're into. Berkeley has an intellectual yet liberal atmosphere so we try to look at all forms of art from various perspectives.

I offered to help out with project educate and set up a beading tool compilation for all the beading beginners out there, and it might turn out an interesting read for the intermediate too. I want to explain the tools, the must haves and the should haves.
There where so many different tools, pliers, and cutters, snips and what else. So I decided to make the 101 the one place you could look for, when you need to look up stuff. And to make sure you don't get bored with me babbling away we get right to the point Beading tools cover all those things you need to start with beading and as well those to make beading life a lot easier and comfy. We all do love when it gets comfy don't we?
PLIERS & CUTTERS
I highly recommend to get good pliers instead of cheap ones. Those will make you regret it because sooner or later you will get good quality ones.
Pliers may lose the edgings to get a good gri

Child labour 5by GMBAkash
Child labour is not a new issue in Bangladesh, as children remain here one of the most vulnerable groups living under threats of hunger, illiteracy, displacement, exploitation, trafficking, physical and mental abuse. Although the issue of child labor has always been discussed, there is hardly any remarkable progress even in terms of mitigation
17.5 percent of total children of the 5-15 age group are engaged in economic activities. Many of these children are engaged in various hazardous occupations in manufacturing factories. Factory owners prefer to employ children as they could pay them less and also able to keep their factories free from trade unionism. A child labour gets taka 400 to 700 ( U$ 5 to U$ 8) per month, while an adult worker earns up to taka 5000 (U$ 61) per

A Guide to Group-Hosted Contests on dAIntroductionA Guide to Group-Hosted Contests on dA2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
The ever-wonderful ValaSedai posted an article about Individually Hosted Contests this morning. It covered a lot of important stuff like gathering prizes and organizing your entries. This guide is going to cover much of the same stuff, but from a group admin's point of view.
Prepare and Organize
The Summer Contest that myself, SilverInkblot, and thetaoofchaos hosted through DailyLitDeviations literally took months of planning. We wrote and revised the prompt, rules, entry guidelines, prizes, judging guidelines, and more. Then when the contest was announced, people had questions and the questions most frequently asked were added to an FAQ section in the article. Then there was collecting and finalizing the

go to http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Cameras/Camera-Sensor-Ratings/%28type%29/usecase_sports
Find your camera and see what iso settings you can push your camera to and still retain descent image quality, this is especially important when shooting auroras, a high iso sensitivity means you can push the shutterspeed under the magical 8 seconds to retain some of the movement of the aurora in the image.
(I personally recommend 6 or less)
Preventing STAR TRAILS
Use the rule of 600 to keep stars in the picture from trailing/streaking.
Divide 600 by the true focal lenght of your lens, true is measured by 35mm full frame, so a 30 mm full frame lens would yield this simple equation: 600/30 = 20 second (or less) exposure and stars will look nice.
For cropped sensors you have to time your focal length with 1.5 for Nikon and 1.6 for Canon.
So 16 mm wide angle lens on a Canon cropped sensor would equal 25.6mm true focal lengt (16*1.6) giving this equation: 600/25.6 = 23.43 secon

This feature is for all the happy couples in the world. And for the good friends.
All I ever wanted was to be loved for who I am. For what I love, for what I need. I wanted to be loved for myself.
But now I feel like this love is.. being torn apart by everyday-life. By fights, discussions..
But all I ever wanted was to be happy with my boy.
I hope everything will be okay soon..
What do I need now?

Artisan Crafts Feature: Lamps and LanternsLamps and lanterns fill our lives with light and have set the mood for many an occasion. Without lights many of us would not be able to make our creations after nightfall, so when I was looking for the next theme my mind turned to the light we need after darkness has fallen. I have featured many types of lights, lanterns and candle holders this time - I hope you enjoy themArtisan Crafts Feature: Lamps and Lanterns2 years ago in Art Features More Like This

I've been working on this for a week and a half straight so I've completely lost the ability to see anything wrong with it anymore. I think it's awesome, but I welcome ideas for improvement and such. Note that I completely ran out of creative juice and didn't make a nice title. I still need to do come up with something snazzy to put at the top
I'm accepting ideas or even designs if you want to contribute.
After I've heard any suggestions and figured out what to do for a title, I'm going to post it to my gallery and provide it as a poster for people to buy and put up on their wall at home, work, or where ever else someone gives them crap for watching. T

I can't wait to see all the beautiful yukata!
In completely unrelated news, I went to the bank yesterday to get a new debit card, and before I knew it, the bank teller was showing me a complete list of people who shared my name so I could pick out which one is me. The list showed all of their address and social security number.
WTF, bank?! If I were a criminal, I could have memorized some poor victim's info and gotten a new debit card to their account instead and stolen all of their money. I will never feel safe again ._.
DAiCON UCDavisHey guys!DAiCON UCDavis2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I will be at DAiCON UCDavis this Saturday May 4th, 2013 in the Artist Alley. Like always, I will be selling prints and my book If you live around the area, or is a UCDavis student, come by and say hi! http://davisanimecon.org/index.html
In other news, I will also be at Fanime, but the Fanime staff has banned me from selling my book in the Artist Alley because it wasn't technically self published. That means if you want to grab a copy of 1000 Words in a N California convention, Fanime is not the con for that. I will be selling the book at DAiCON as mentioned above, and also at Kintoki-con, and Anime Expo.
See you there!
The Story Behind the Photo IIIEvery now and then or at least for now, twice a week, I will be posting up a Journal featuring an exceptional photo and the author's story of how he/she captured that particular moment. The Story Behind the Photo III3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Many times, we come across amazing photos on deviantART and wonder what the story was behind that capture... who was involved, where it was taken, how it came to happen, and so forth. I thought it would be interesting to find out of a few of my own favorites, so I contacted a few photographers asking them for a quick summary of their stories.
This week's feature is one of Alexandra Baban 's (AlexandraBaban) incredible shots.
Check it out.

Astrophotography- Some Of Your Questions AnsweredI have got to a point on this site that I am literally being inundated with questions about how I do some of my photos. I simply do not have time to answer them all in full individually anymore. It is seriously restricting the free time that I have to pursue this hobby and take those pictures that have become so popular (both on here and elsewhere). So for my well being and hopefully to the benefit of those who ask me so many questions, I am doing this write up.Astrophotography- Some Of Your Questions Answered3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Before I get into some questions though, I want to make a few things clear. I have spent a lot of time and money on trying to learn as much as I can to better myself with this style of photography. I love all forms of astrophotography and I really think I have found my niche. I hope to one day soon start making back a bit of that money I have spent. So I am not going to just reveal everything I have worked so hard to learn. What I am going t
