"Selina," he answers, his voice rough. His arm is around my waist, one leg protectively draped over both of mine from behind. I don't need him to take care of me, but honestly, it's nice to sleep with both eyes shut. I've never felt safe in a man's arms like this.
"Talia," I whisper. Maybe I won't have to voice the rest of the question on my tongue. He is the world's greatest detective.
All I get from him is silence. He doesn't want to guess what I'm getting at, in either fear or hope that he's wrong.
"You slept with her."
"And she knew? Knows?"
"Selina..." I feel him sigh silently behind me. "Does it bother you?"
"I don't know." My answer is honest, and very quiet. It does bother me, but I don't know how long it will.
He stifles a yawn in my neck, and I can feel how much he doesn't want to do this right now. "Talia was the first
Batman: Joker's HolidayIt was Christmas Eve in Gotham. Everyone was happy and singing Christmas carols. For one day a year, everyone in Gotham felt safe going out into any part of the city. There was still one thing that didn't change, though. The bat signal lit up the night sky, and like any other night, Batman responded to it almost instantaneously, finding only Jim Gordon waiting on the rooftop, wearing a Santa hat and smiling slightly.Batman: Joker's Holiday8 years ago in General Fiction More Like This
"What's the matter, Jim?"
"It's the office Christmas party. You know, those of us who still have to work tonight get together and have a party so that we don't have to be alone on Christmas Eve. Since you're always alone, I thought…"
"I don't do Christmas parties, Jim." Gordon groaned.
"Somehow, I knew you'd say that. No matter what happens to you, no matter what day it is, you're out here, fighting the good fight. That's why I…" Jim reached into his trench coat, pulling out a thermos. "Merry Christmas." Batman took it, opened it, and sniffed it.
A Valentine's Night in Gotham CityIt was a dark night in Gotham City. Despite the many lights, provided by street lamps and neon signs, there seemed to be a constant shadow looming over the city. Normally, there was a lone figure standing on a rooftop that blended into the blackness of the sky. This time, however, there were two vague forms that could be spotted if one squinted hard enough. The first did not seem to notice that the other had joined them, but this was immediately disproven as they spoke in a low and rumbling voice.A Valentine's Night in Gotham City3 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
The second figure, a woman, smirked at the sound of his voice and slunk her way to the man's side.
"Bruce." Her tone was hushed, the word rolling off her tongue in a manner that suggested a forbidden sort of giddiness. She usually didn't dare to use his real name when he wore the suit, but the area seemed secluded enough and she could hardly contain her excitement as it was.
The suit that she had fallen in love with. It seemed so silly when she thought about it now, like a

Dr. Cassidy fought a smile. "I don't know, but I'm sure you'll find out soon."
There was a collective groan of annoyance from the patients gathered in the rec room. It was Christmas Eve, and the tree was lit up and there was a cardboard fireplace in the corner, making it much cozier than usual. Edward Nygma had begun playing chess with Jonathan Crane, Jervis Tetch was nervously reciting "Alice" under his breath, Arnold Wesker was polishing his glasses, Pamela Isley was playing with the tree's fake branches, and the Joker and Harleen Quinzel sat on the couch. The doctors and an assortment of orderlies and security guards were standing around, waiting for Dr. Arkham to show up.
There was a sound of scuffling from the hallway, and Jeremiah Arkham came t

Running along the familiar roof tops to her apartment on the fifth floor was no more than a ten minute trip for the Batman. The window was wide open, as he had expected, and the low flicker of candle light that could be seen from where he stood, on the adjacent roof top. He heard purring and looked down, “Isis.” He said smugly. She was home waiting, and had sent her sentry as a look out. Batman dutifully picked up the cat and jumped to the open window. This was going to be difficult.
The place hadn’t changed much. The two bowls of crème sat in their usual place at the table along with the empty, assorted cans of tuna that lay scattered about, that were completely licked clean. Batman smirked at her attempt to carve things out of wood with her clawed gloves. The wall that had once been covered in newspaper clippings of her crime sprees and jewelry heists were now covered in my achievements. Capturing the Penguin, the Riddler, and all the other crimina

It didn't take him long to spot Catwoman fleeing the Jewelers. He followed her in the air for a while, watching as she leapt from rooftop to rooftop, using her whip to pull herself higher. Finally she skidded to a halt behind a propane tank, half-falling, half-sitting. He angled his cape downward.

His anger and rage threatened to never cease.
In the prison of Hell, looking up at the sky,
His only soft feelings of hope began to die.
His soul rotted for years.
The inhumanity dried up any remaining tears.
A baby's cries erupted one night.
The sound was foreign and inspiring, as was the sight.
The broken man, his heart so charred,
Watched the baby grow up, his expression hard.
Hatred manifested for the mother, who brought the girl into this hell.
Didn't she know how many prisoners had tried to escape and fell?
How cruel was that mother, to bring that girl straight into death.
She'd never feel warmth and happiness on her breath.
Especially not after her mother was taken and killed.
In the commotion of the screaming struggle, the broken man's arms were filled.
He held the girl close and dashed away,
"I will protect you." She heard him say.
The guards weren't concerned with the abandoned five year old.
They had done what they'd been told.

Gotham City was a dangerous town full of dangerous people. (It didn't matter if they were good or bad; they were dangerous either way. A girl can steal your heart just as easily as she can your wallet.) It was huge and complicated and crime-ridden and depressed, but it didn't need to know that. And despite all of its mental faults, physically it was quite beautiful at a certain time of night, if you stood a certain way, and closed one eye and used your imagination.
Unfortunately, Selina Kyle was not able to stand in that certain spot.
She could see it from her apartment, tantalizingly close, but incontrovertibly unreachable; an R rated movie to a child at the theatre. She opened all the windows in the hopes that perhaps the city could somehow push itself into her home, but to her building frustration, the world outside remained where it was supposed to be.

An intense, dominant bond between a human and a Transformer.
Term coined by Hannah Smith and Ratchet after the events of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, when Sam Witwicky (human) and Bumblebee (Autobot) underwent the Guardianship process.
Bond is formed after a human and a Transformer have spent a significant amount of time in each other's presence. Requires a great deal of trust, closeness, and compassion mutually between the two. Affects both bodies physically and mentally.
Described by Earth scientists to be "a bond like no other." Comparable to the intensity of a mother/child relationship, but considered to be ten times the strength.
There are two parts to a Guardianship relationship: the Guardian and the Charge. The Guardian is always the Transformer, likewise, the Charge is always the human.
Physically, the Guardianship process is extremely brutal. In the first few moments of its conception, the action temporarily shuts down both bodies, enabl

REBOOTS WELCOMED?: THE NEW FIFTY-TWO
Written by Diane N. Tran
Yesterday, on Wednesday, August 31st, DC Comics scrapped its entire publishing line for September in order to reinvigorate itself with a reboot or a relaunch, as they're calling it. This historic event consists of the release fifty-two first issues in a span of one month, starring rejuvenated versions of its iconic comic book heroes, such as Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, etc, and a storyline that had been previously rebooted twenty-five years earlier in CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTH. Fan reaction has been mix, from massive issues like the paraplegic Oracle walking out of her wheelchair to the tiniest issues like Wonder Woman having retractable pants.
While I personally disapprove, strongly and pessimistically, of this reboot for countless reasons that are my own, the NEW FIFTY-TWO has started with a bang, whether good or bad and is, t
