Whenever a character from a video game says something nice to my character. But the sequence of events I just experienced in Skyrim have made me question my own reality.

We loved creating. Those first attempts were driven by enjoyment. We weren't doing it to get better, to "practice", or even, God forbid, for a paycheck. We were doing it to do it. A joy unto itself.
In some ways, I find all my current work to be little more than efforts to rediscover that first love. To get back to that feeling I had at the beginning, before all the training, practice, and work. Before I was "serious." Back when drawing wasn't about creating something pretty but just having fun. No pressure, no demands, no expectations.

Got some artist friends for the first time, quite a number of them met/still meeting face to faceI rediscovered traditional art in drawing more than sketches, but full-fledged detailed pictures. I got a little - still not enough - smarter with digital art too. Tried out new stuff. Drew lots of my chars, but also other people's, even a few fanart pieces. I started drawing backgrounds and details"

this "speedpainting series" is an exercise to develop ideas and skills in the digital drawing area. the maximum time intended for each drawing is 30 minutes, so the range of time used for each picture varies. the more pics made per day, the better!
i recommend you people to do this kind of exercise, it's good for artistic health! prevents art-blocks!

What does "composition" mean for comics?So I have to start thinking about art history again, since it’s back-to-school season and I have to restart teaching. This is really just a way to excuse my laziness in coming out with new pages of my comic… Here’s another justification – starting to think about comics and traditional painting… When I finally do get down to work, I find that dA is a useful resource, since I don’t always have to refer back to the originals of my earlier pages; I can just look at them on dA. The cool thing is the way they’re presented first as thumbnails. Because of that, I get to see what they look like as a pure “design” composition – in other words, as a composition solely of shapes and tones. It helps me think about how the entire page looks, as opposed to the single panel. But this presents problems as well, since comic pages aren’t just something you’d do in 2D design class. Manga's Adventures in AmericaOne of the groups of which Jelena and I are members is altcomix, and one of the stipulations of joining was that we not post manga to the group’s page; you’ll notice that this is one of the rules for Serious Comics as well. The founder of altcomix (and now a member of Serious), naha-def, said (I’m paraphrasing) that he thought there was very little in the way of good manga produced in the United States, and that, therefore, he thought it advisable to limit the amount shown through that group. By simple coincidence, in the two weeks that followed, I purchased two comics that I think speak to the issue of how manga has been influential in US comics, and how the better side of that influence is often unnoticed. That said, I thought it bore mentioning especially here on DA though, that I work for HIRE. If your sweet RPG project, or video game pitch has no budget at all for art, it will save both of our time if you don't try to tap me for artwork. I Do realize I'm passing up an amazing opportunity for me to make my portfolio way more awesome, and that I won't be getting that free publicity. It's a risk I'll have to take.
