Taking Care of Yourself
You know it's out there: the dreaded smell of unwashed bodies. At Sakura-Con, it's called H.O.B.O.: Horrible Otaku Body Odor. We here at Sakura-Con have declared the convention a "No H.O.B.O. Zone." To enforce that, we have provided a checklist that will help you keep that smell to an absolute minimum, and your con experience will be much more pleasant. Please remember to bring these things with you!
The Top Twenty Items Forgotten by Convention Attendees (a Checklist)
1. Personal towel. (We know the hotel provides them, but if you're sharing a room with several people, this guarantees you your very own towel. Also, if you plan on using a lot of makeup for a costume or dying your hair and use hotel towels, you will be charged a hefty fee for damaging hotel property. Please bring your own towels if you plan to do this.)
2. Shampoo and conditioner. (Again, the hotel provides these, but the bottles are quite small. Bringing your own ensures you

Sick and tired of 9gag theft[Update: After 13 Days, they finally removed the image. ]Sick and tired of 9gag theft1 year ago in Personal More Like This
a new Mini Comic sadly means, more theft over on 9gag. Like clockwork, someone stole the most recent one and reposted it here within minutes.
I have had every single Mini Comic stolen so far without fail, and I feel that now I am forced to use more prominent and ugly watermarks in the future.
In general I don't mind when people share my art, as long as 1. no money is earned through the post (9gag makes about $13k a day through ad revenue with traffic generated by stolen material) 2. watermarks are not removed and people can find the source 3. people ask beforehand.
I have a Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, so on those sites I post most of my art anyway which people can simply retweet, reblog and share.
So far, 9ga

Basically Ive been contacted about distributing some mousepads specially PewDiePie theme designed.
I thought it would be awesome to have some artwork by you bros on this!
I just need a really big file of it. Like huge, (otherwise the print wont look good). So if you have any artwork, fanart (or feel like making one) that you think would look good and still have the .psd file (or whatever original file you saved it as ) for it I would be more than happy to check it out. - Just leave it as a comment down below, I need it before the 2nd of August though.
It might also end up on my t-shirt shop instead if I really like it
I also wanna say that I appreciate every single fanart that I get and it always gives me the biggest grin to browse them through on Deviantart
I just figured if you reach out to me it makes it a lot easier and I will pay if I end up using it of course.
Thanks for all your amazing fanart and please never stop making them
New Masters AcademyHeya folks!New Masters Academy1 year ago in Personal More Like This
If you would like some awesome and affordable online art education, I highly recommend the recently started New Master Academy. I've been trying it out for a few months now, and while the quality varies a bit from lesson to lesson, overall it is an amazing value. I've spent hundreds on art DVD's in past. Generally, you can expect a 2 hour demonstration video from a professional artist to cost $30-$100. Compare that to the $19 monthly subscription for an ever growing list of video demonstrations and lectures. You really can't beat that.
The videos from Steve Huston alone make this a good value IMO.
Hopefully these guys are successful, so that we see more content like this in the future.
"I want to be a better artist."This is a sentiment I hear often on dA. It's usually followed by a question regarding how one should go ABOUT becoming a better artist."I want to be a better artist."4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've no doubt made journals like this in the past, but here's another one. This page was in dire need of an update, either way. : )
I could probably talk your ear off for a mile and a half about why I should be the last person you ask for creativity-boosting advice. Aaaand I have my reasons for this, but that's not really what anyone who writes me wants to hear, I think. It's just a fair warning. I'm not an accredited teacher, I was far from the most capable person at my college, I've made a metric crapton of mistakes, and I am nowhere near where I'd like to be in my own personal artistic endeavors. If that doesn't bother you, well, keep on reading!
The best way I could aid anyone interested in bettering themselves would probably be by giving you the advice that inspires me the most. Stuff I've heard from frie

'Life Drawing 5' by algaegoblin
Do you know how to sketch human figures but do you want to refine your anatomy skills? Or do you not know anatomy at all and you are tired to trust your imagination? Did you notice you create disproportions in your drawings?
If you are aspiring artists and you already have your own style, you might as well believe you have no need of a guide, but you are wrong. Before exaggerating human proportions and begin to have your own style, you first have to know the basics.
This little guide is the result of an accurate research and 5 years of high school of art, and it's created for all those who want to learn something new or just make a useful review.
For those who have already studied art, my suggestion is to go to step 6 or trying to repeat all steps in Digital format.
First of all, if you want to learn faster you should draw using traditi

The United States Congress is proposing two laws that address the problem of wide-scale unlicensed distribution on the Internet of motion pictures, songs, trademarked goods, and patented pharmaceuticals.
One of the proposals is called SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and would direct search engines in the United States to block Internet sites outside the United States that are primarily engaged in distributing unlicensed content.Another proposal called PIPA (Protect IP Act) would block websites located in the United States as well. The Obama administration is putting a stop to these proposals. It wants the Internet companies and the content companies to get together and come up with more functional and less destructive solutions.

As promised in the previous journal entry, here's an interesting muscle girl I recently came across: Shizuku Oomine (大峰雫) is the name of a character from a game called Bliss University (セントブリス学園 ユニバーシティー) by the Doujinshi Circle XL-Bra which can be purchased over at DLSite.com (RJ055362). It's an adult flash-based game, so I won't link to it directly. Shizuku is an i

DON'T GO TO ART SCHOOL- By Noah BradleyDon't go to art schoolDON'T GO TO ART SCHOOL- By Noah Bradley1 year ago in Personal More Like This
The traditional approach is failing us. It's time for a change.
I'VE HAD IT.
I will no longer encourage aspiring artists to attend art school. I just won't do it. Unless you're given a full ride scholarship (or have parents with money to burn), attending art school is a waste of your money.
I have a diploma from the best public art school in the nation. Prior to that I attended the best private art school in the nation. I'm not some flaky, disgruntled art graduate, either. I have a quite successful career, thankyouverymuch.
But I am saddened and ashamed at art schools and their blatant exploitation of students. Graduates are woefully ill-prepared for the realities of being professional artists and racked with obscene amounts of debt. By their own estimation, the cost of a four year education at RISD is $245,816. As way

Describing your CharactersDescribing your CharactersDescribing your Characters2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
As writers, one of our primary goals is to bring characters to life in the readers’ imaginations. To do this, a character needs two things:
1) A personality.
2) A physical appearance the reader can imagine.
The first is created through characterization, and the second is said to be done through physical description. While both statements are true, what I’d like to discuss is how physical description needs to do more than just craft appearance, and more than anything, it's characterization that contributes to vividly imagined characters.
Take a look at the following example.
1) When I entered Mr. Smith's office, he stood and smiled at me. He had a big nose, brown eyes, and short, brown hair. He wore a dark suit. I shook his hand.
What do you know about Mr. Smith from this brief scene? The physical details I’ve given say that he has a big nose, brown eyes, and short, brown hair.
