Art ThievingLately I have been getting a handful of notes about people stealing my art and passing them as their own. It's no stranger to me now to have my art being stolen. But lately there are two cases that are much worse than before. One place I have people tracing my commissioned art for others, another place I have people trying to sell prints using my art.Art Thieving3 years ago in Personal More Like This
No one likes to be branded as thieves, but I cannot retract that label when after being confronted, not even a single apology is issued to me. I do not threaten people, so why is it hard to apologize for your wrongdoings? I find it quite funny. Let me tell you what, when you apologize with just a simple line like 'Sorry, I won't do it again.', it can make a mental note to yourself that you will not repeat the same mistakes. But you did not. That just leaves the impression of what you are doing is not wrong and there will be next time not until you get caught.
But now I have seen. I'm very disappointed. I stored away some of

"Fair Exposure"So today Someone posted a link to this"Fair Exposure"3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
on one of my pictures.
It is about the new way to feature pieces on the frontpage. They give categories that are not as much used a higher position than popular categories.
Personally making the front page is not that important to me. But I think it's quite weird to give almost a head start to other categories.
I do get why they do this but I don't really agree. It's not all that fair at all. Giving certain people a special treatment is far from fair.
So I posted this journal to ask your opinion on the subject.
How do you feel about this?

A Beginner's Guide to Offering Commissions OnlineI decided to write this journal because in the last month alone, I had about five young artists ask me this question in one form or another: "How should I go about offering commissions?"A Beginner's Guide to Offering Commissions Online9 months ago in Personal More Like This
This seemingly easy question can actually be quite difficult to answer. The first time I was asked this question, I expected to write only a paragraph response. I was shocked to find that once I had finished writing my response, I had been writing for almost a half hour and had written five paragraphs. Why is this not a simple question? I think the answer lies in the fact that how to offer commissions is not altogether intuitive. I know that when I began to offer commissions, I was at a complete loss. It took me a few years before I got into the swing of things. Even now I make mistakes. So, without further ado I present a beginner's guide, built on my many mistakes, many accomplishments, and 5 years of experience!
One of the first things I recommend

It's really relevant to me right now, because suddenly people have been asking me about my canvases and cut outs... like people I know. I think it's because I posted this picture on my facebook. (which I hardly ever do because I'm like invisible with my friends and family when it comes to my art.)

And what the guy says in the video is true. People expect you to do free work because "Hell, it will only take you a few minutes."
Well no it doesn't. For one thing, I take my sweet ass time because I worry that if it looks bad, I'll see how limited my abilities really are. AND THEN MY FAMILY WILL CRITICIZE ME SAYING "SHE QUIT BEING A NURSE FOR THIS? PSSSHHHH" (I have some issues with family's judge-y eyes.) So yes, I think the emotional stress I would have

China Glaze has formally apologized, and have personally apologized to me - for which I am extremely grateful. They're now going after the so called "artist" who ripped me off, and have offered me compensation, and a job! So rock on China Glaze! And thanks to all of you guys for your support, and the flaming messages sent to the company. I really think that all of the outrage opened their eyes as to what happened, and that caused them to reach out to me. Way to go creeps! I <3 you!
Here is the earlier post:
I have some unfortunate news this morning - I was alerted that the beauty supply company China Glaze has mutilated a few pieces of mine - and some from other artists as well - to advertise their Halloween nail polish collection "Wicked."
This is upsetting, not just because it's a horrendously bad Photoshop job, but because they didn't ask for my permission, or offer any compensation at all. It's disgusting, and I'm pretty hot a
A Shooting in AuroraLate last night, a lone gunman went on a killing spree in a movie theatre in Aurora, Colorado.A Shooting in Aurora3 years ago in Personal More Like This
At least 12 people were murdered, and many more were wounded; some of them are in critical condition.
If you are a spiritual person, please say a prayer for the dead, the dying, and those living touched by this tragedy.
If you are not a spiritual person, any happy thoughts or kind gestures would surely be appreciated.
Please refrain from any speculation, politicization, rumor-mongering, conclusion-jumping, finger-pointing, and other similarly inappropriate behavior for just a little while, if possible. It hasn't even been 12 hours since the tragedy took place, and that sort of unproductive demagoguery is already being handled nicely by the 24-hour news venues.
Real tragedies like this happen, all over the world, and our responsibility to our fellow man is to render aid & support, be it large or small, in times of crisis.

The Photographers Guide : Taking Quality PhotosThe camera is just a tool, it's not magical. You don't even need a DSLR to be a photographer. Anyone can take a picture on any device, and it be considered art. It is how you do this that most effects your outcome. For example, take me. I don't own a dedicated camera - used my camera phone - the Nokia N8 - for each and every photograph i have clicked that is in my gallery. Sounds odd ? Well its the truth. Two editions of What Digital Camera appeared today and I'm pretty glad they did because I flicked through and immediately landed on a link for a free online Photography magazine. You can open it up yourself Right Here and I haven't tested but I believe it works in all countries. The reason I'm sharing it is because they have a nifty forum where you can share your own photography with the chance of them picking it to publish either in the online magazine or the 'real' shop versions. What have you got to lose right?

My fear of catsI already talked a bit about it over at my twitter, but I want to elaborate a bit because it's something a lot of people don't seem to understand. My fear of cats8 months ago in Personal More Like This
I've developed a fear of cats. It's not a phobia because I can function perfectly normally in a room with a cat. It's presence doesn't bother me one bit. I'll even pet it, but I don't particularly enjoy touching it and if it tries to stand on my lap we're going to have a problem.
The thing is, it's the cat's claws I don't like. Even if a cat enjoys what you're doing to it, it'll bore it's claws into you out of pure bliss. Holding a cat usually involves pain too unless you face it away from you. I'm aware that not every moment with a cat is filled with pain, I've owned cats and lives with one at the moment after all (though it's not mine) and we get along just fine, but I've got more scars from cats than anything else (including the one I live with) and none of those cats were angry with me. They were just doing cat stuff.

Zombies are back. Really, I hope the Plagas and Uroboros shit is gone for good. I only hope they will have a good reason and explain why things have "downgraded" back to zombies and viruses so to speak.
Half of the game seems to take place in an ambiguous American town, which I always felt was a good quality about the original games. I really didn't like it when the games began to take place in "real locations" such as Spain, Africa, Antarctica, you get the idea. They seem even more like cliche war games when they started to move to such locations.
Most of the cast seems to be familiar faces. Albeit, these familiar faces come from RE4 but hell. Better than adding even more forgettable new characters as they've been pouring on in Revelations and Operation: Raccoon City. And it seems that Ashley has grown from being a helpless girl, so perh

My Painting stuff (WIP watercolor tutorial)Well, I wanted to post something for my birthday but seeing as I can't finish the watercolor tutorial on time, have a journal instead. My Painting stuff (WIP watercolor tutorial)1 year ago in Personal More Like This
For now, I'll show you my materials and tools I use for my watercolor paintings.
1. Masking Fluid - It's used to mask areas you don't want paint or water to get in. I rarely use this because a) low-grade papers can be ruined by this, and b) I can control my brush anyway.
2. Drawing inks - My favorite coloring materials as of late. It's water-based inks which you can dilute and use as watercolor. I only bought 4 colors (red, blue, yellow and black) since all other colors can be mixed from those three. The colors are brighter and more permanent than watercolors.
3. Poster Paints - Opaque paints I use for corrections and line arts. Again, I only buy 4 colors for this plus white.
4. Masking Tape - Basically used to tape my paper on board. Useful to set borders in your painting.
5. Drafting Brush - Not really needed

First of all, thank you for doing this interview, Adrian. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Well. I really don’t know what to tell you about myself. I am a normal teenager. Going to school like everyone else. I have low self esteem. I am not sure what I am doing here. I am trying to be perfect at everything I do. I am a lot of other things. I think I could write pages about me. I can’t characterize myself and I guess I never will.
What do you think sets you apart from other photographers?
I don’t know if I am setting myself apart from other photographers. Because I feel like I am not long enough into this world to say I am established or anything like that. It still feels like I got my camera yesterday. But to g
some thoughts from yesterdayi've always been a lover of the ugly pretty. i don't mind shooting in harsh sunlight or when my model is looking the other way or has a tangled mess of hair on her face. my camera clicks when someone takes a deep breath in or are tying their shoelaces on the side of the road. this year i want to shoot that more than ever. i want to shoot knees with bruises and hands rubbing tired eyes with dirt underneath plain fingernails. i want to run around barefoot in the forest with the wild bird i am taking pictures of in the few minutes of blue light after the sun sets and before the night sets in. i want to shoot designer clothing in the ocean and climb trees in dresses. i want to breathe life into my photography like it breathes life into me.some thoughts from yesterday2 years ago in Personal More Like This
