Because laughter is always the best cureI must confess, I started this week in a bit of a foul mood. My Tumblr Dashboard, my Twitter homepage, even my personal email were overflowing with "OMG! HAVE YOU SEEN THE LYRA SEX TOY! MY LITTLE PONY IS RUINED FOREVER!!!!" messages. All of them complete with photographic evidence. Everywhere I turned, from Reddit to Ponibooru was like the ruined battlefield of a civil war reenactment staged by green pony butts. And you know what? The first, let's say, dozen times I saw it, I said to myself "Self, that's the end. It was a fun ride, but it's time to nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure." Then I realized I was talking to myself again, and decided to just sit back, relax, and avoid the plot that devours nations.
Of course avoiding it was out of the question because the bloody thing was everywhere! For all I could tell it was being simulcast twenty-four

Wait, what? If you don't know what a plz account is, you can find out here. This may also have you wondering how to create plz accounts. You can learn all about that by reading Project Educate: Plz Accounts by Krissi001.
Now that we're all on the same page, here's some exciting news!
HelpPlz.info is a portal to a massive database for deviantART's plz accounts. At the time of this article's publication, there are already over 25,000 plz accounts listed in this database, and that number is continuing to grow. Before this, deviants have been using journals and group blogs to store these accounts with somewhat frustrating and often cluttered results. But that's a

And thus, season 3 comes to a close with an adorkable new purple princess, an entire season's worth of amazing new songs, and an entire lifetime's worth of memes. I loved the finale so much, my only wish is that there was MORE of it. It felt like so much goodness was left on the cutting room floor to make space for a single episode. Twenty minutes is clearly not enough to contain so much pony. That said, I welcome our new purple princess and look forward to seeing what kind of trouble she gets into in the upcoming TWENTY SIX EPISODE Season 4!
And while all sources point to the next season being a ways off, even that's not so bad. The fandom and the swirling chaos of feelings around this show has been boiling hot since Season 3 was announced as only 13 episodes. Drama, worry and discussion and debate have been in high gear. At this point, I truly believe it will do everyone good to settle
Popular Fan ArtThis has been bothering me for some time now, and I've seen this sort of behavior even before I joined dA, but some folks honestly need to stop acting like artists who happen to draw fan art or fan comics for "popular" series automatically makes them "cheap" or that they're somehow shallow people because of it. People can actually, you know, like a series that's popular and end up wanting to draw fan works because they want to. Popular or well-known works or series are going to have lots of fans, so it's not exactly unnatural that more people might be inclined to draw fan art for certain series. It's one thing if you're not a fan of something popular, because it's completely normal for people to have preferences, but when you're just being dismissive of someone else entirely or looking down on them just because the subject matter they choose to draw is "popular" then it makes you look petty and/or jealous. Because, let's be honest, there are people who get really pissed and uptiPopular Fan Art3 years ago in Personal More Like This
BullyWhen I was a minor, I was heavily bullied throughout my public schooling life. That is preschool all the way to senior year. I was bullied for various reasons; for being too smart, for having crooked teeth, for liking cats, for "being too manly", for being friendly... and it destroyed me. I have attempted suicide twice in my life and have permanently been inflicted with depression. I also have an extremely hard time socializing and standing up for myself, because any time I had tried to do so in my past, only made things worse for me...Bully3 years ago in Letters More Like This
I got it not only from other students, but also from teachers and school boards, who discriminated against me in various ways. What was I to do? No adult would help me, in fact they told me it was all my fault and I deserved it, they told me to stop standing up and to stop being who I am. It made me for the longest time a walking zombie, unable to express myself and my desires, because I had lost hope.
And this is by no means a unique case whatsoever fo
The Greatest Experiment in Capitalism: AnalyzedWhat gives the government the right to forcibly redistribute wealth from the rich to fulfill the needs of the poor? The Greatest Experiment in Capitalism: Analyzed3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
The above seems to be the battle cry of many free market idealists, which inspired me to write this article. Surprisingly, many people who offer this contention aren't rich, and are unwitting beneficiaries of government control.
My initial thought was a bit cheeky. The middle class is currently paying about 50% of their income in taxes, while the rich pay about 15%. The rich buy politicians to keep it this way. What gives a rich person the right to steal from the middle class not for their needs but for sport?
Although there is a lot of truth to that, it's still important to address the main point: the aversion to the government using force to redistribute wealth. This sounds good in concept, and if you keep it in abstract terms it's hard to disagree with it. However, the supe
Good Story Advice and the Power of PatienceI recently picked up a copy of Stephen King's the Dark Tower I and while I've yet to read the actual story, the book opens with a thoughtful introduction that contains a number of insightful pieces of commentary. However, the particular part of this opening introduction that really stood out to me was the portion where King mentioned Tolkien's influence on him as a youth and as a writer. He talks about how wildly popular Tolkien's work was with kids growing up around that time, and how reading Tolkien's work eventually inspired his own. In King's own words:Good Story Advice and the Power of Patience3 years ago in Personal More Like This
"But although I read the books in 1966 and 1967, I held off writing. I responded (with a rather touching wholeheartedness) to the sweep of Tolkien's imagination-to the ambition of his story-but I wanted to write my own kind of story, and had I started then, I would have written his. That...would have been wrong. Thanks to Mr. Tolkien, the twentieth century had all the wizards and elves it needed."
And that's a big reas

fan responsibilityI like how whenever people don't like certain artists they say things like, "your fans are rabid" or "your fans are sheep" or "your fans are stupid, shallow, etc. etc." when a large amount of artists on here share the same fans and followers as a number of other people.fan responsibility3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Ex. the person you're calling a "stupid sheep" or "a fucktarded follower" could be the same someone who added you several weeks ago that you had several pleasant conversations with or even one of your own watchers or the watcher of another artist you both happen to like and admire.
I also like how people apparently take it upon themselves to tell certain people, "you have rabid fans, just sayin" or "your fans are fucked up and need to be under control," as if it's that one artist's lone responsibility despite the fact they are only one of the hundreds of people those same "rabid fans" follow.
Because it should be absolute priority that an artist knows and monitors the exact movements and words of every stranger that hap
Original Characters and FanartI've been seeing this topic appear more on my dash lately, so I'm pretty much just going to chip in my cents and say that I think it's nothing short of ridiculous when people complain about how their original work never gets attention and that people "only care" when they draw fanart.Original Characters and Fanart3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Newsflash: You're essentially complaining about the fact that people are getting more excited about an already established and widely recognized series with an already present fanbase instead of an "original" character that maybe appeared, what, only once or twice in your entire gallery.
A lot of artists try to pin the blame on other people for being attracted to fanart or make it seem as if others are just "too shallow to care about original OCs they just want to see fanart WAAAAHHHH" but if you've spent most of your time loading up your gallery with fanart of already existing series while only drawing your "origunul churruckter" once or twice with a small dash of "lol maybe i'll draw them again sometime

I gently leaned on a row of dresses. It occurred to me that I could tell my friends, but the prospect felt even more uncomfortable than mentioning it to my family did. I really had no clue what would happen now. It was doubtful I'd become the excitable, colored blur my sister was. I also couldn't quite imagine myself as Parker. She was nice though. Then there was Allison. I could be like her. The thought put a shiver down my back, especially when I realized my hands were actually smaller than hers (since she'd also tried the extra-small on and it was too snug).
I'd be the little sister. I paused on that thought. Me like Candace's little sister with mom and me seeing eye to eye.
I'd still huddle under a mound of covers, trying to beat back the press of morning rays through the side window of my room. My feet would be buried in my bed like the deep end of the pool. I'd have to cling to tightly. Candace would have no regard for my sleep, as usual.
The WHUTler - I Like Analysis but this is RidicI love a good analysis as much as the next person. Even the ones that are meant to be satirical, comedic, or generally sarcastic. But I think there are times when people just get so into something (or a character) that they feel the need to over-analyze their every action or just look into it to the point where they either end up seeing something that isn't there, or take something and make it out to be deeper than it actually is.The WHUTler - I Like Analysis but this is Ridic3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I see a lot of GIF sets for shows like Sherlock, Avengers/Thor, and Doctor Who that do a lot of, "let's take a GIF set or images from this scene and write a complex analysis for this character or that character or this scene."
And then, most recently, we have the Once-ler fandom.
I'll admit that I didn't watch the entire Lorax film, but I've seen enough clips/scenes from the movie as well as GIF sets and summaries/reviews to know pretty much how all of it goes down. The overall general consensus seems to be that the movie was fairly shitty, although th

The shivering came.
There had to be a different explanation. I stepped towards the front of the store and began furiously rubbing at the back of my hand but I knew there was no way I could've gotten some paint on my hand. It almost looked like someone had pasted a small patch of fleshy, glove material to my hand. For now, it was only the back of my hand but I had the nagging apprehension it would soon spread.
I made my way out of the store and considered washing in the bathroom. I knew it wouldn't do anything. I should've felt something if it wasn't my hand. Actually, I didn't feel the light hairs I usually had on the back of my hand. I tried to tickle for them and I couldn't find them but outside of the affected area.
Not a reason to panic. Dad definitely lost a lot of body hair. My concern was becoming like that pervy former-guy in class. I wasn't anything like that though. Not that some random phenomena would care. Leaving my hand under the f

Sexual exploitation is no joke, we all understand that. Having volunteered at a rape crisis center, I’ve heard heartbreaking stories and seen lives devastated by rape and sexual assault.
I applaud ANYONE concerned about these issues and willing to help with time and money. BUT trying to take down a tumblr about dirty jokes and ponies doesn’t amount to fuck-all. And sending someone money for a tee-shirt “supporting” taking down a tumblr about dirty jokes and ponies means even less than fuck-all.
If you want to lend assistance to something that matters, visit the websites of these 4-star rated charity organizations dealing with matters of rape, sexual exploitation, and women’s justice. "Kenny! It's after twelve! How can you stay in bed all day?!"
I blinked my eyes open from what I was sure was one of the best dreams I'd ever had to the pouting visage of my younger sister, Candace.
Her huge, green eyes gave a visible twitch.
I muttered something into my pillow and tossed a hand in her direction. But she wasn't going leave me alone. First, came the prodding with her hands, then the poking with her feet, then finally, the drops of water on my neck.
"You promised to take me to the mall today after lunch!"
I vaguely remembered such a promise from several nights ago and sat up rubbing my neck to get the water off. My sister stood before me, framed by the dark, pen lines which surrounded her body, her arms folded, and awaited my answer.
With a sigh, I brushed my hair back and nodded. That was all the affirmation she needed. I was promptly seized by her almond-pink arm and dragged forcibly from bed and to the floor. Before I could look up, she

The idea is that it is someone who has had their sex changed from male to female quite suddenly and they're meeting with their therapist. And that's most certainly the most logical long-term thing which can happen to someone who has been spontaneously sex changed. And I was thinking this kind of thing happens enough it's like a disease but it's sudden. Like a reality shift. I know there have been therapist scenes in stories in passing but I haven't really run into a good one. I also like that it's some time into the even, about half a year if they're meeting weekly but I'll think about it. What I'm going for is something along the lines of HBO shows which have had therapists. Where they deal with the issues the person has quite seriously. My main problem is I have not gone to a real-world therapist, especially one where gender issues are concerned. It would be quite literally like someone for sexual iden

I did try on the jean jacket before I left and, had my wallet not been aching so much and the day been a colder one, I would've considered it. It was also unisex enough I didn't find it intimidating.
Setting it back in place, I scanned for Allison. She was trying on a few shades which didn't look right on her. Her indifferent expressions suggested she agreed. I approached her with a wave and she smiled back at me.
She asked me how I was. I took a moment with that. I didn't want to deluge her, so I just told her, with a sigh, "Holding up."
When I asked her how she was doing, she fiddled with a pair of shades and told me, "I feel bad bringing it up after all you've gone through " I stopped and assured her it was fine.
She continued, "It's I just wish I had a sense of what comes next. Candace has given me some good advice but I keep worrying it will get worse with my family. I don't think they hate me. But there have been moments which

So, how did you make your cover?Do you get to pick your cover? Why don't authors get to make their own cover? But I already have an idea for my cover, why should I change for the publisher? But I've already designed my cover, isn't that a good thing?
And a lot of the time I explain that, no, the author doesn't have a lot of control, if any at all.
I got really lucky working with Zest (they asked Miranda and I for a lot of input while we worked on the cover), but the truth is, many authors I know don't have any say at all. Most authors might get to give feedback, or give suggestions, but it's ultimately up to the publisher what goes on the cover of your book. And I try to explain why that's a good thing. I mean, we're AUTHORS, not designers, right? We don't necessarily know what's best when it comes to making our book sell in the store (or online). But I think sometimes that's hard to hear

Controversy is once again brewing among fans of diminutive cartoon horses. It seems like a weekly ritual, this constant ebb and flow of panic and relief, unchecked caps-lock accompanied hyperbole and the arrogant dismissal of the concerns of an understandably protective fanbase. This time, though, the fear, worry, anger, and resentment are ratcheted up to 11 as folks worry for the future of the show as well as its most popular character. It all comes down to one question- is Twilight Sparkle- the adorkably awkward student of Princess Celestia about to ascend to Princesshood…uh, Princessdom? Princessity?
Is Twilight Sparkle going to turn into a princess permanently? And more to the point, what does this signify for the future of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

My eyes trembled a bit but no tears again.
"May I help you? You okay?"
I glanced up at a calm voice. A converted clerk smiled massive brown eyes in a clear "anime"-inspired style. Nearly a third of her head was eyeball. Not that large eyes were a surprise anymore and hers in particular were a lovely, burnt brownish (?) color. My skill with colors and their names had always been good with mom around but you get curious when the whole rainbow is spread out in people around you. Looking closer, there was a reddish touch to her eyes. More subtle than Allison's. Maybe burnt crimson. A lovely color.
Her hair was the color of glossy, metallic copper blended with a sharp, pink tint. It was literally like her wavy hair was made of pink metal. The locks were thick, falling past her back in a form like the noodly hair of my sister's old Raggedy Ann doll. A pink carnation which had been influenced into a cotton candy puff sat clipped to the side of her hair
Legend of Korra ReviewI never watched the original Avatar: the Last Airbender series in its entirety due to both lack of time and the length of the series. I've seen a handful of episodes, but aside from those, a lot of what I know of ATLA comes from spoilers, wikis, and fanworks. There's a chance I may finish the series someday, but for now I'll have to settle for Korra, which brings me to the main point of this entry.Legend of Korra Review3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I recently finished watching the first two episodes of the Legend of Korra and, to be honest, during the initial stages of advertising when they put emphasis on a "hotheaded" young girl with a "fiery personality" that was "ready to take on the world" I was initially unsure how to feel. Male or female, "hotheaded" protagonists are a fairly frequent occurrence in fiction, and a number of times can be pretty irritating as far as leading characters go, in my opinion. A part of me was somewhat apprehensive in how they would handle Korra and over the possibility of her "hotheaded" personality bein
Gender is a funny thingWhen the option is available, I often do not put down a gender for myself on websites and such. For example, on dA I am currently marked as blank for gender thanks to a technicality that allowed those of us who signed up before identifying your gender was a mandate to keep our "no choice" answers (of course, editing this removes the ability).Gender is a funny thing3 years ago in Philosophical More Like This
Anyway, this is just something I ended up doing out of habit, keeping my gender blank or undisplayed. Not that I was hiding that I was a girl - not at all! I think it's pretty obvious I do not hesitate to say I'm a girl. But that's the thing - I personally say so in my personal space or when asked, rather than be ticked into an automated system. I dunno, it's different.
But anyway, because of this, always there are people who don't know my gender right off the bat! In fact, it's kind of funny to see how often people will argue about it, considering the ones arguing are presumably people who "know" me, and yet are unsure of my gender.
And what's th
