NOTE: the UN-ENLARGED view is the actual size of the drawing

Alfred Hitchcock was an English filmmaker and producer, mainly known for his horror classics. See the Wikipedia entry here: [link]

SIZE: 8 x 7.3 inches
TIME: 6 hours
PAPER: Bristol Smooth 300 series by Strathmore\
PENCILS: Staedtler Mars Lumograph. I used B for about 95% of this, with a little 2B

Here are the 6 reference photos I chose from. They were ALL inspiring?!? [link]

Actor Tyler Hoechlin

I'm back ... and with a pretty handsome dude:blush:

To my surprise I lately got hooked on "Teen Wolf", and I think it is because of Tyler:love: He's just stunning and an amazing actor.

As soon as I saw that high quality reference file I knew I had to do another of the, for me, hyperrealistic portraits (like the one of Jensen Ackles I did a while ago:fav.me/d5gcfks). I started this in September or October, and I've been working on it on and off. Since I posted a WIP on Tumblr(sirtoastalot.tumblr.com/image/…, it has laid basically untouched on my desk, mainly because I was too afraid to finally draw the facial hair.

But since I really want to start new stuff, I had to finish this first.

Hope you like it:heart:

Technical stuff:
  • paper: Bristol Paper, 300g/mē, A3
  • Faber Castell 9000 pencils, HB - 8B
  • references for the portrait from the Teen Choice Awards 2011 photoshoot
  • Photoshop to correct the levels

I was asked again by Rosebud Magazine in California to draw Jack Nicholson, because they are doing an interview with him, and he's on the cover. They said he will most likely view my art work!! :D:D

VIEW the FULL ARTICLE HERE: [link]

I've created a Google Doc with all the scans of the steps I took, so I don't have to SPAM everyone with all the WIP updates. The only problem is, you can't see the fine details very well, because they are pasted images, not attachments.

SIZE: 7 x 8 INCHES
TIME: about 10-12 hours?
PAPER: Strathmore Bristol Smooth 300 series
PENCILS: Staedtler Mars Lumograph H, HB, F, B, 2B, 3B

PLEASE NOTE: The ENLARGED view is slightly larger than the actual drawing. See the high res scan link above for CLOSE UP details :D:D Speaking of which...the details in his eyes drove me nuts! I prolly spent over 4 hours total on the eyes!

PS - note I drew the entire head? I ALWAYS crop the scalp at least a little. It is so you get the most face in the space allowed. However, Rosebud Mag insisted that I drew the whole thing, and that they are also going to do some type of "watercolor effect" to the drawing? I will post that when I see it.

I had this one about 80% complete when I put it aside to draw Jack Nicholson.

SIZE: 6 x 7 INCHES
TIME: about 8 hours
PAPER: Strathmore Bristol Smooth 300 series
PENCILS: Staedtler Mars Lumograph H, HB, F, B, 2B, 3B

To view the step scans I took, see this Google Doc:
[link]

To see a SUPER CLOSE UP for details, go here:

PS - the UN-ENLARGED VIEW is the EXACT SIZE of the Actual Drawing
:D:D

I know that the space between his finger and his face is pitch black, yet on the other side of that finger is all white. But believe me, that's how the reference photo was. After I cropped it and converted it to B&W that is ;)

Not a Rambo freak or anything like that, ha! I just ran across this a while back, and saved it b/c I liked the range of contrast. It's pretty small, about 4.5x5 inches (11x13cm)

I couldn't really tell what was going on in the photo in his hand area? So I did the best I could.

I've been drawing on Strathmore Bristol Smooth, but their 400 series vs the 300 series, which is thicker. I think the 400 thinner paper is a little harder to get perfectly black areas? Maybe b/c it's thinner and the tooth is harder to crush? Or maybe it crushes too much? Who knows, just a thought...:D
