In the season finale, the bridesmaids were brainwashed... and I think there was some fighting back. >:] Of course, one might say that only a unicorn whose talent is magic could perform such feats as Lyra is here, but I think any unicorn can perform feats of magic within their own talent.
So what is Lyra doing? Playing Queen Chrysalis like a Lyre? Doing something that involves humans? I decided that sitting Lyra should be making Chrysalis take a seat. Naturally that move would be useless if it were a battle of magic, but perhaps Chrysalis is trying to run away, or fly away rather. Who knows? Maybe this mutiny is why Chrysalis brainwashed them in the first place.
Any way you see it, I wanted to draw Lyra doing some epic magic. The concept of "Background character doing epic feats" is mirrored with my picture of Derpy's Sonic Boom: [link]
This literally was a quick sketch...and even the editing was quick. But this took me several hours for one reason: The lighting. On her body. It's ridiculous! I've never tried this before, and even after hours it still looks messed up. Ah well.
Okay, so Pinkie Pie won the most votes last time! So here you are! Now with AppleJack, Rarity, and Dash left, it's up to you to vote on who I should do next! (To vote, post a comment below) Rarity : IIIII Tied Dash : IIIII Tied AppleJack : II After we finished with the Mane 6, we can move onto any background pony or minor character.
Well...yep. This is my first Rarijack piece. Please don't hate me.
I've always been a sucker for sunset images, and it's about time I made one myself, featuring my two favourite ponies! The colours were mainly inspired by a picture of the Great Ocean Road, Australia that I've had in my phone for quite some time now, and no doubt I like to think these two actually made it to Oatstralia somehow! Of course, you can always come up with your own ideas, like maybe [insert beach name here].
And in any case, should you not approve of this pairing, just think of them as two friends trying to mess with each other. I mean, there's nothing wrong with that...right?
Season two is finished and it went out with quite a bang. It was a fantastic season and I applaud anyone and everyone who worked on the show. What does this mean for pony art from me? Well it probably means I'll be doing less of it, my sketchbooks show this already. However these adorable equines have earned a permanent place in geek heart and art shall pop out every so often(hell I've got a bit of a backlog of "stuff that's going to be completed digitally").
I'm going to be busy doing a few other pieces, just generally improving my skill across the board so expect many random things from different place in my gallery soon.
Now for the piece itself.
I'm just going to go out and say that Lyra is my favourite background pony. Her design and colour scheme is awesome. her new voice is great, the fact that her fan name became canon is brilliant. Everything! The fanon just adds to it. Her belief in humans, the desire for hands etc.
Now I'm also going to admit that I'm not one for shipping, I find most of them don't gel. I'm just not a fan of the non-canon relationships.
The exception is Lyra and Bonbon
This is just an expression of it. the two of them strolling(trotting?) through the hills around ponyville on a rainy day while sharing an umbrella.
I had LOADS of fun with this pic. I'm starting to get to grips with PS5 and it's blending, however I still prefer SAI for it's linework. Originally I was going to use a Ponyville street for the background, but it felt too cramped so I opted for a "wilderness" setting. In all honest it works much better.
Done in Photoship CS5.1, Paint Tool SAI from a traditional sketch.
