I was standing in a forest surrounded by mist, alone with Sapphire. I sat down and smiled at her, and she smiled back... But something wasn't right. Slowly, her smile faded, she dipped her head, and slithered she off into the mist. "Sapphire, Wait!" I called, running after her. The mist grew thicker the further I ran, until...
I woke up. In a cold sweat I looked around, I was in my bedroom, Sapphire wrapped around me, her head placed on my chest, smiling a wonderful smile as she slept. Seeing her calmed me, and I knew everything was okay. I took a quick glance at my bedside clock. 3:00AM. I took a deep breath and twisted around a little. Sapphire slowly opened her eyes and took a sleepy yawn. As soon as she looked at me, she could tell something was wrong.
With a curious face, she asked, "What's wrong?". My eyes began to tear and I hugged her.
"I had a nightmare... That you left me and didn't come back," I said, my face pressed into hers. "It makes

"We just killed someone." Astrid said quietly, staring at the crater. She bent down and took a closer look at the robes and staff.
"I don't really think it was someone, more like something" I said, limping over to her side.
"I don't even " She started.
A pain suddenly seized up in my chest. I clutched my ribs in pain, a groan escaping my lips. Astrid steadied me, placing a hand on my shoulder.
"You okay?" She asked.
"If you say being hit by a powerful magic force four times in the stomach is okay, then yes," I said. I gave her a weak smile.
Sapphire snaked her neck around me and stiffed at my chest.
"May I? " She asked softly. I nodded slowly and lifted my shirt. An ugly black bruise plagued my chest. I grimaced at the sight. Sapphire lay down and placed her snout to my forehead, closing her eyes. Within minutes I began to feel better.
"There, is that any better?" Sapphire asked. I watched in amazement as the scratches and bruises all over my bod

"I don't know, I wouldn't be asking you if I did."

My eyes flung open. Not again!
I jolted upright in my bed as an annoying mosquito buzzed pass my head. It was the tenth time now! I looked down at my arm, itching my new mosquito bite. My sixth mosquito bite this hour! Sapphire lay against me, sleeping peacefully, oblivious to the irritating buzzing sound. I fumbled in the darkness for my bedside lamb. I found the switch and flicked it on. I scanned my room, looking for any moving black spots. Aha! There it was! In the corner of my bedroom ceiling. I sneaked out of my bed, trying my best not to wake Sapphire. Swiftly, I grabbed two tissues and positioned my desk chair underneath the mosquito.
"I've gotcha now!" I said under my breath as I stood up on the chair and reached up, trying to squish it. It flew around crazily dodging every strike I flung at him. I had very slow reflexes, and my attempts were fruitless. Finally it landed, but just out of my reach. As a last resort I jumped of

"Are you ready?" I asked Sapphire.
"Ready as I'll ever be, this is my first time, you know," She replied uneasily.
"Don't worry you'll be fine, I'll see you soon," I said.
"Oh wait, I forgot," she said. She closed her eyes, and then a glowing whitelight appeared in her hands. The light exploded into blue, before fading, and in Sapphire's claws was a matching deep blue sapphire. "As long as you hold this, I will be able to talk to you, and share thoughts and memories," she explained. She placed the gem into my hands. It seemed to glow a little.
"Wow... Thanks..." I said, speechless. "Just how many more things have you not shown me?" I asked, curiously.
"Too much things to show you..." She replied, sighing. I love you, I thought. She blinked, looking at me with her large blue eyes. We embraced, and then, Sapphire leaped into the air and soared into the sunset. I turned around, and ran into the garadge, my family had just finished packing the van. I jumped into front se

"I already said no," I said, turning to her and stroking her draconic head. "I have to do my homework otherwise I'll get detention again".

An awkward meeting.
It was a very hot night, the heat bothering me as I lay there, wide awake on my bed. I sighed.
My parents had left for an overseas trip for 8 days, and I was in charge of the house. I turned to my side, staring into my back yard.
I saw the trees behind my pool waving around, as if inviting me outside for a swim. I turned away and tried to get some sleep.
After a few failed attempts, I thought,
"That does it, I'm going for a swim,"
I slipped on some bathers and walked outside. The warm wind battered me, as if teasing me. I went to the edge of the pool and slid in to the cool, clear water. I sighed with relief. I submerged and swam a few laps around the pool, enjoying the cool, fresh water.
A few minutes later, I decided to get back to sleep. As I turned to grabbed the steps, something touched my leg.
I recoiled in surprise. "Who's that?" I said to no-one. I put my head underwater and looked around. Nothing. Just shadows. Confused, I continued up the steps. The

Maybe Sapphire would know... I began to fall into deep thought.

From under his black hood, two glowing white eyes stared straight at me. Three scars streaked from one side of his face to the other, his face was twisted up in endless pain and anger. His arms hung loosely, withered and black; age had not been kind. He wore a robe; dark as night, as if made of darkness itself.
