"Lala, can you give me some cosplay advice? I am going to cosplay so-&-so.." (Etc. etc.,)
"I was wondering if you have any tips for me when it comes to cosplaying..?"
I have spent years thinking about how to even respond to this sort of question, there is so much advice I want to give, but I don't want to give it to just one person.
Thus... I am going to lay it all out right here on this journal.
If you are the type to say: "TL;DR" Then go ahead & leave now, or just read tip #4. XD To those who actually want to see what my advice is, continue on this long jolly yellow brick road. (Whether you cosplay Wizard of Oz or not. LOL.)

Publishing for the Non-Lit ArtistPublishing WeekPublishing for the Non-Lit Artist3 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
So this week, we're focusing largely on publishing literature - which makes sense. When you think "published [blank]" the first words that come to mind to fill that blank are probably "poet" or "novelist" or "hack". Right? But, little-known fact - There are as many routes for publishing visual art as for literature.
Seriously, though: Whether you're a writer or not, there's a niche for you in publishing. This article will outline some of the most common venues to answer that ever-present question, "Where can my work go once I'm done with it?"
If publishing visual art sounds like something you would like to do, I cannot stress enough that you should read the rest of the articles in Project Educate: Lit Publishing Week. Most of the themes you'll see apply to visual art as much as lite

Your profile page is the first thing people will see when they click on your name, so it's very important to leave a good impression! This article will provide some useful tips and tricks for both premium and non-premium members who want to convert their profile into their own, unique page. First off, some Do's and Don'ts of profile decoration:
Use dA's profile widgets-- there are lots of great options to chose from
Show off some art (that's what people are here for!)
Express your personality through colors, stamps, gifs, etc.
Add so many images that your profile takes forever to load
Use garish or headache-inducing colors
Make text difficult to read with dark backgrounds
While many widgets are restricted or locked for non-premium members, there are still a variety of great widgets that you can add to your profile, even without a membership.

Emotions in Writing and How to Portray ThemLit Basics WeekEmotions in Writing and How to Portray Them1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Wow, yes, emotions; they stir us, they sometimes rule us.
For your written world to come alive this critical element must be rightly imparted into your work. Your character’s emotional state is something that needs to be grasped in meaningful ways in order for a reader to begin caring about what is happening to them. Likewise, poets who write verses that do not express an emotional range will have lines that fall flat and lifeless on their intended readers.
Emotions are not one dimensional – each has a broad range of expression. For example, anger can be experienced anywhere from a mild annoyance, prompt bitter retorts, or become a barely-contained, seething cauldron; long before exploding into an unbridled rage. Often, intense feelings move through several stages all in one event.
Additionally, emotions seldom appear that are pure in their source; celebrated author and counselor H. Norman Wright, MFCC, CTS describes what mos

Hey, it's me, bloedzuigerbloed! Some of you may be familiar with my "Improve Your Writing! Tips and Techniques" journal. While that (excessively long) journal covered many topics, it's time to add a bit more onto each of those by giving the important ones their own tutorial.
CAUTION: Before you proceed, I warn you, I am not a professional artist or author, and all I’m going by here is what I am assuming works best because it works best for me. If it doesn’t work for you, don’t get angry with me. This is a disclaimer.
[Keep in mind: This tutorial is especially helpful for realistic fiction, so some things I suggest may not apply to y

Ethel's Sugar Cookies
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup shortening
1/2 teaspoon vanilla or 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
Bake at 400F for 6-8 minutes.
Tip: Roll them out on the pan they will be baked on. Use the cookie cutters there, and peel away the excess. If you have enough scraps you can roll the excess out on another pan!

I'm not really that lazy. I often say I am as a form of self-deprecation (and honestly, I AM lazy insofar as physical exertion goes, much of which comes from my hatred of pretty much every sport). I'm a huge procrastinator, but it's less out of laziness and more out of "oh hey, check out all this other cool stuff I could be doing that isn't math." And anyone who watches me here on dA knows how much work I put into here, both with my own writing and in promoting the community. So when I say I nearly didn't fill out the forms for student aid, it's not because I didn't feel like it until now.
Actually it has to do with two things: one, I'm terrified of those forms. I'm always nervous that I'll check the wrong box and BAM - my financial future is ruined. The other is my Mom, who is VERY good at these (she's a medical coder - she has to be good at forms) usually takes care of this sort of thing for me.
Anyway, as long as my Stafford is approved before t

Border CSS TipsYou'll find many border css styles all around the web .. I am not adding anything new here .. just collecting some of my favourite border styles and tips together .. Also I want our students in eCSSercise to check on this blog .. hope u'll find them usefulBorder CSS Tips3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Wow .. thanx for the feedback .. with ur help I'll add more tips below .. keep an eye on them XD
What's a border?
Border is what surrounds your html/css object/item, let it be a text, an empty box, or an image .. etc
What makes up a border?
Border has four properties:
Color - Width - Style - Radius
Whether you choose for your border to be visible or not, bear in mind it's made up of four parts:
Top - Bottom - Right - Left
How to use that in CSS?
The border properties have different ways to write down their values, but I always use a fixed/limited way:
color: #------; --> border color
width: --px; --> border thickness
style: solid, dashed, dotted; --> border ap
Financial Resources Available to ArtistsFrom time to time around dA you may see your fellow deviants faced with unplanned or unforeseen financial crises write journals asking for donations. When the need is urgent or if your profession is being threatened because of a catastrophe, you may need more funding than what can be raised through dA. In such a circumstance, it would be in your best interest to seek out emergency funding through a grant. Please note that some of these grants cannot be funded to hobbyists, students, or self taught artists.

A reference guide on bookbinding typesA reference guide on bookbinding typesA reference guide on bookbinding types1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
When I tell people I'm a bookbinder they often think I make only one type of book; the library kind. That, however, is only one of the many ways an artist can create a book. For me, it's a fun challenge to pick the right binding style to go with the purpose of the book. Whether it is a novel that needs to look really classy or medieval, a sketchbook for a graphic novelist or a paper about connections that lets me show the binding. In this article I'm going to tell you a little bit about all the types of bookbinding that I know. I'm not going into details but, if possible, I will link to images and tutorials that do.
If you're here for inspiration: this guide is pretty long. I recommend scrolling through the images first!
To make a start...
The different ways of binding books can be broken down into two general groups: adhesive bindings and non-adhesive bindings. Adhesive b
