"I'm coming, Shepard."
I'm already moving,

I don't ask what it is.
I already know.
Everyone on the ship knows.
Shepard's locked himself in his room a grand total of one time,
and that was after the destruction of Earth.
this is Earth all over again.
I tried to go to him before.
In the hours after we'd boarded, I'd went to his room,

I'd called his name,

Things were never easy whenever Shepard was involved. Kaidan would have liked to say he was surprised when Anderson had told him that Shepard had surrendered to the Alliance after venturing into the unmapped Omega 4 relay, destroying the Collectors ship as well as the base then blowing up a mass relay in the Bahak system, destroying the entire thing in the process. The news itself certainly rocked him to his core. Shepard had destroyed an entire system. The way it sounded it was without a single flinch or care, all in the name of stopping the Reapers. Shepard's resolve was never going to break whenever the Reapers were involved. Despite death, disaster and destruction following her around like a second shadow, she still persevered trying to be the biggest hero in the galaxy. But then she went and destroyed an entire system, Kaidan was having trouble wrapping his head around that. He barely could accept the fact that Shepard was alive again, he had watched the original Normandy explode,
Heal My Wounds--Chapter 4Kaidan found himself wiping sweat from his brow as the sun bored into the dark fabric of his back, causing him to perspire more than he normally would. With the combination of both biotic and physical strength, he stood beside Liara and a few other biotics, removing masses of random matter out of the streets and into either giant piles or into the backs of giant vehicles to be re-purposed and made into new concrete. He looked at the asari to his right. Her face was focused and, although she was sweating at a ridiculous level, her breathing was even. Her biotics were definitely skilled and powerful. There was a familiar voice coming from behind them, harshly calling out orders, occasionally swearing at one of the people she was instructing.Heal My Wounds--Chapter 43 years ago in Romance More Like This

The Commander was crazy - completely, utterly crazy. He'd trained and fought alongside vanguards before, but this Could this even be called fighting?
It was more like watching a giant freight train striking down everything in its path! To tell the truth, Kaidan had no idea that biotics could even be used in such a way.
One second, the Commander was standing right next to them, giving his orders and assessing the situation - the next, he was gone! Vanished! All he could see was their enemies in the distance flying all over the place as a result of his ridiculously powerful biotic charge, followed by a full blown nova knocking back attackers in a massive arc of biotic energy.
And then, there Marco Shepard was knee deep in geth and husks, shields depleted, shooting them at close range with his shotgun or delivering a few well placed punches if they ever got too close.
Kaidan had tried to assist

They say your life flashes in front of your eyes before you die.
I always wondered if that was true. And what would I see, what scenes would Kaidan Alenko The Highlights be made of? I don't know if there would be much personal stuff, like spending evenings with my parents in Vancouver, looking at the sun setting and painting the sky in all possible shades of red, a cool Canadian lager in one hand. Maybe I would live through my first kiss again, my first time having sex although these two might not be considered highlights.
Or maybe there would be my time in the Brain Camp. Rahna and the other kids. Making out hidden in secret spots to avoid the teachers, throwing each

It's a hell of a first impression
when the people you most want to impress
come home to find you making out with their son pinned against the wall.
It doesn't help that Kaidan's blushing.
This is the most awkward silence
I have ever experienced.
Kaidan's mom's face is unreadable.
Kaidan's dad's face is thunderstruck.
Kaidan gestures to me.
He clears his throat.
"This is Commander Shepard,"
and his blush deepens even further.
Something kicks in.
I don't know if it's from years of defying others,
or just another one of my act-fast, think-later instincts.
But I yank Kaidan closer to me
and slide an arm around his waist.
"Kaidan and I are getting married,"
I say unabashedly,
like it's no big deal,
and Kaidan's mom's eyes get so big
I think they might burst.
"We stopped by and you weren't here,"
I tell them.
says Kaidan's mom faintly.

Commander Shepard looked out the window of the apartment at the Armax Arsenal Combat Arena just across the strip, although not really seeing it. While his eyes scoped the holographic lettering of the building, his mind was combing the bulge of the right pocket of his favorite jacket: an N7-themed black cotton hooded jacket that harkened back to 20th and 21st century fashion. Reaching his callused hand into the pocket, he pulled out what it so contained: a black velvet case that contained one of the most special purchases he hoped he would ever make.
As his fingers unconsciously stroked the soft velvet, Shepard thought about the man the contained was intended for. He had known the man for a few years now, but only recently did he realize he had deep feelings for him. A few weeks ago, Shepard got to sit down with him at Apollo Café on the Presidium so they could relax and talk over lunch and drinks. Before they gave themselves the chance to order, his love said something that made

Shepard could barely wrap his head around everything that had just happened. It had only been a few hours ago that he'd stepped off of the Normandy, setting foot on the Citadel for the first time in his life.
It was, for the lack of a better word, an amazing place. A melting pot of diversity, the very epicenter of galactic society. Everything was so pristine and beautiful, like it had been lifted straight from the pages of a novel.
If it weren't for the fact that simply being there was like standing knee-deep in political bullshit and red tape, he might have been inclined to want to stay a while longer. But as it stood, the place was a teeming hive of politicians and authority figures that were so wrapped up in their own agendas that he could barely take a step without smacking into someone with a "problem."
And those "problems" more of than not ended with Shepard and his crewmates have to run from one end of the Citadel to another to find the "solution."

Shepard had always teased her about whether she’d be able to stomach combat, but Traynor’s a tough cookie and she doesn’t flinch. It’s Garrus on one side of Vega and her on the other, shuffling towards the med-bay.
She notices that both her companions refuse to utter a word. That’s strange, she thinks, because neither are ever short of snide remarks, and knowing the extent of their love for bantering, she’d expect them to be firing back and forth by now.
You just had to go and ruin the fun, Garrus would say, and, well at least my face is still intact- and handsome, Vega would respond.
The banter never happens, and it’s blood pouring out of Vega instead of laughter.

Taking my Time A few days later, she found him at Apollo's Café, sitting at a table and looking as though he was trying desperately to keep his mind off their impending date he had asked her on. She was grateful that Dr. Chakwas had held onto her old dress from when she aided Kasumi in recovering Keiji's graybox. 'That PVC dress in my closet that Traynor found ' she suppressed a shudder at how downright unflattering that dress looked. Traynor had good intentions in adding that to Samus' wardrobe, but this one was more stunning, to say the very least. The voices were incomprehensible through the veil of black around me. It had thinned over the time, allowing me to catch a glimpse of the world behind it, only once. I had bathed in light that time, so bright it had blinded me. Something had covered my eyes, a gentle hand and something had stung in my neck.

Home ShepardxCortezAn accomplishment they'd called it. A victory, a triumphant end to the reign of tyranny. There were words upon words, words of praise and joy, words of compassion and sympathy. Hero they called him, savoir and champion of the galaxy. The words all felt empty. They floated through the thick atmosphere of his sterile hospital room and pitifully sank to the floor like dust. He felt imprisoned by the very people he had sought to protect with everything he had. He felt as though he didn't deserve all of the publicity, all of the awards and appreciations. He'd just done his job, he wasn't anything spectacular. He idly flipped through the stations of the news, every story was about him. But none of them portrayed him as this broken shell of a man that he was now, they had taken pictures of him when he was a strapping younger man, his eyes were intense and filled with passion and patriotism. It's different here-

We step onto the bridge,

The flakes leap up over the railing,
throwing themselves towards the sidewalk,
twisting up again before they hit.
And so is Shepard.
The streetlamp beside us throws his face into a sharp contrast,
illuminating the tip of his nose,
the curve of his cheek,
