Copyright What is Copyright?Copyright1 year ago in Personal More Like This
"Copyright is a legal concept, enacted by most governments, giving the creator of an original work exclusive rights to it, usually for a limited time. Generally, it is "the right to copy", but also gives the copyright holder the right to be credited for the work, to determine who may adapt the work to other forms, who may perform the work, who may financially benefit from it, and other related rights. Copyright is a form of intellectual property like the patent, the trademark, and the trade secret."
"Copyright may apply to a wide range of creative, intellectual, or artistic forms, or "works". Specifics vary by jurisdiction, but these can include poems, theses, plays, otherliterary works, movies, dances, musical compositions, audio recordings, paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, software, radia and television broadcasts, and industrial designs."

Things you should never ask an Artist to doI write this to not spark a debate or judgement, only to share my personal opinion and experience in hopes of benefiting you and offering insight to people thinking about hiring an artist.Things you should never ask an Artist to do2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Things you should never ask an Artist to do:
1. Free Work.
Do I really have to explain this one? You wouldn't walk into any other business offering a service and ask for free clothes or a burger right? No, you pay for them without question and they take a lot less creativity, time to make and cost a lot less. Why ask people to work for free on something you couldn't make yourself? If you believe in your vision, then I suggest find funding for it to pay the people doing the work for you. This goes for family as well, don't get me wrong, I love my family and enjoy doing something for them but it means so much more when I OFFER to do something for free than when it's expected. Let the artist decide whether or not they want to give their time for free without asking them, as a rule treat them with res

Season 8 finale discussion (!!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!!)Hello people of SPNO!Season 8 finale discussion (!!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!!)11 months ago in Personal More Like This
I feel the urge to discuss the season 8 finale of Supernatural.. So let's share impressions.
HERE COME THE SPOILERS, I'VE WARNED YOU
OMG how awesome was that final episode????? I mean, burning angels falling from the sky? I was totally stunned watching this. I find all the angel dramatic stuff so thrilling, how about you guys? ^^ This episode was a total highlight. I think what makes a series really really good is a dynamic character development. And this episode was a single fucking character development explosion.
First I was shocked seeing Sam so broken when he's about to finally cure Crowley. Okay, Sam has been feeling bad since the very beginning of the trials, but seeing him so broken and just an inch away from death was so breathtaking and shocking.
Then Crowley. Oh my god, I've always loved Crowley as a character. Mark Sheppard is so so so incredibly talented (he played also a very interesting character

Commissions *UPDATE*UPDATE: After a bunch of people telling me so, I decided to raise a bit the pricesCommissions *UPDATE*1 year ago in Personal More Like This
So, I've been thinking and why not?
I have some free time and I want to get better to my art, so...if anyone would be interested in commissioning me, I'd be glad
For now, it will be only point commissions but I'll create a Paypal Account some time soon now
What I am able to do:
SKETCHES for 10
+2 per additional character
Sketches can be complex or simple, full body, half body, only a portait and it won't change the price
B&W DRAWINGS for 20
+3 per additional character
Black&White drawings are those I make with pencil only. I could add a hint of color here and there though, but mainly it's still B&W
COLORED DRAWING - simple & without background for 25
+5 per additional character
More simple, without many details drawings
Obsolete InkingLately I've been doing work for DC Direct--the wing of DC in charge of statues, toys, etc. It's been a nice break from PRJ. The money is good, and it hasn't been soulless like I imagined. Corporate gigs can go either way--sometimes they want you to do exactly what "they" want, other times they want you to do your thing unencumbered. Luckily this was the latter.Obsolete Inking2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The rates for toy designs are broken down into three parts: you get paid for the sketches, the final pencils and the inks. For this gig, the inking rate was higher than my normal inking rate. It felt good, but then I realized that 25% of my fee was for inks. And it raised an unsettled concern that's been on my mind.
How long will inkers be needed?
In the old days they needed inkers because computers weren't yet being used in print. I forget the name of the machine that preceded the scanner (process cameras?), but it was low-tech enough that i

5 Reasons to WriteI wrote a blog once that urged comic artists to try writing their own books. I held back a bit on what I said--Punk Rock Jesus hadn't come out yet, so I didn't feel like I had the proper authority to really speak up.5 Reasons to Write2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Since then, there's been a lot more discussion about the etiquette of publishers toward their freelancers, the recent rise of creator owned books, and the effects of Hollywood moving into comics (or vice versa). And as friend of mine at Newsarama pointed out recently, I'm one of a few guys who's found a middle ground--not only because I'm writing and drawing my own book, but because my OGN is partially owned by DC Comics.
Certain events of the last year have created new concerns within our industry. Do you still need to work for big publishers if you want to "make it"? Do they deliver a better product than creator owned books? Are the Big Two treating creators as fairly as they've always been? Between the rise of digital comics and comic-based movies, are creators getting
Comics Are ArtComic-Con Journey to the Heart of The New Summer VacationComics Are Art2 years ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
Americans have a long summer vacation tradition of visiting the foreign capitals of the world and being sure to spend at least one day in each nation’s most iconic art museum. In Paris, we visit the Louvre. In Madrid, the Prado. In Rome, the Borghese. We feel far more comfortable in identifying the different peoples of our planet through examples of their greatest art works than we do about identifying ourselves as being represented by any one iconic “American” art museum or artist. Maybe the country is just too big for one musuem and so it has always fallen to our pop arts to carry the true visual narrative of what’s going on in the hearts and minds of the masses.
Comic-Con has become the new arts and culture go-to in domestic summer vacation destin

I am bringing your attention to a documentary, Beauty is Embarrassing, that
deeply inspired me after a screening last week. The life wisdom and positive
philosophy unfolding over a lifetime of living as an artist was deeply motivating.
I invited Wayne White, the subject of this documentary, to join deviantART afterwards.
I thought this would be something you would enjoy no matter where you might be at
on your own personal journey as an artist. While watching this I was also reminded
of the heartfelt explanations by many artists of what it means to choose the life of an Artist.

Top 5 Mistakes (I've made over the years)To many people in comics, I only arrived a few years ago with Joe the Barbarian. Then came Hellblazer (completed in 2008 before I began working on Joe), American Vampire: SOTF, and finally Punk Rock Jesus. Once in a while someone will mention Off Road (an OGN I did with Oni back in 2004), but for the most part it seems like I've been published only these last few years when in fact I've been published professionally for a decade now.Top 5 Mistakes (I've made over the years)1 year ago in Personal More Like This
This isn't a plea to have everyone go back through my previous work--in fact, I'm glad that a lot of the books I've done over the years aren't on readers' radars. I'm proud of it all, but the books above are a nice, tight group of titles to be associated with. They're all in a similar brand, they're all recent, they all have good creators/publishers associated with them, and the artwork is mostly consistent. Go back further than that, and you'll see artwork that looks nothing like the stuff I'm doing these days. (Although Off Road still holds up to some de

I had no idea where I was headed, but I had a pretty good sense. Soon I approached the clearing, and hid behind a bush. I must lie in wait, no matter how much I'd like to kill anybody nearby, to just get it over with. There on a clean little table we're four small bags. Minutes past, and I swore you could've heard a pin drop. Then the the District 5 girl ran out- And boy was she fast. She didn't hesitate to grab her districts bag, and without another notice, she dissapered. I stayed in place. This was going to be easy. Next Came Katniss. Boy did I hate that girl. I don't know what it is about her. Maybe the fact she stole all our sponsers with her and Lover Boys Relationship. Or maybe its becuase she thought she was better than us. No matter. because I was going to kill her. I sprang out and raced across the ground. Katniss turned around::..Goodbye Sweet Clove..:: ~Clato~2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Many, many months ago last July (that's how late this entry is) a cosplay event was held in the most beautiful location that the local cosplay community has ever seen. Parts of Fernbrook Gardens also looked like Hogwarts so we figured it would be appropriate.

A Beginner's Guide to Archery in Stock and ArtWith movies like Avengers, Brave and Hunger Games, 2012 seems to be the Year of the Archers and many artists have already been inspired to create their own archer characters.A Beginner's Guide to Archery in Stock and Art2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Whether you're thinking about having one of your OCs pick up bow and arrow (in writing or drawing) or you're a stock artist who wants to create some decent archery stock, I hope this little guide helps you understand the wonderful thing that is archery.
First and foremost, a little disclaimer: For this article I will mainly draw from my own experiences over the past few years. I am what you'd call an intuitive or instinctive archer, which roughly comes closest to medieval-styled archery. At the moment I'm shooting a modern Samick bow (without stabilizer or sights) and am in the process of making my own recurve bow out of robinia wood (similar to a few bows you can see in my gallery).
However, in archery there are many styles and differences in material used, draw, stance, finger position etc. – it all depend
