Oh dear.

Result of finally watching Repo! The Genetic Opera (which is a very, very strange movie).

So if you can imagine Zim performing a musical number as he prepares to remove his victim's organs, you're all set to go. XD

Meh, I spent about seven hours on this and there's still mistakes I couldn't fix _{(I don't know if you can tell, but the binds on Dib are slightly translucent lol.)}

Well at least the cel-shading is somewhat satisfactory this time. XD

Except I put them in the wrong order; you have to read from the bottom up. Just like the picture, I guess XD

I suppose this could be either ZADF or ZADR. It looks more ZADF to me, but meh.

I feel like there's too much colour in the background, plus I failed at the word placement. There's also a few other mistakes which I may fix later.

Le result of me playing too much Slender. You just keep staring at that note, Dib. Don't look or it takes you.
I guess this is... well, I was walking along staring at the sky cus I had my torch off, and then Slendy teleports in front of me. Like right in front of me. I was looking up into his...face?... and there were tentacles extending from his back... urgh. I was frozen in terror for a full three seconds :/
That light seems to be coming from... nowhere.

Texture isn't mine

I've read my share of tearjerking ZADR fics, but I haven't found one that actually made me cry. 's fic A Thousand Years managed it. Her story needs more reviews; it's brilliant. And heart-wrenchingly sad...

Tried to make Zim look aged; and I meant to make the background look faded while Zim, Dib and the flowers were in colour. Failed. Plus I was too lazy to draw Zim's other arm... ah well. Enjoy.

HERE'S YOUR VALENTINE'S PRESENT, EVERYONE.

<sub>Woot, I finished it!

And to celebrate, I shall now proceed to torment your brains with a long-ass description.
Feel free to skim-through-it or whatever you call not reading long artist's comments. XP Just... y'know, you'll be missing out on a lot... a lot of probable boredom. And very slight toilet humour.

This was one of those strange ideas that won't leave your head, until it's been sowed, nursed, fed, burped and grown into a HUGE-ASS TREE.
Had the idea to draw a surrealistic foresty-type scene, since surrealism's a movement that's always held some fascination with me, and I love bizarre dream-type stuff XD

Was inspired by quite a few things.
The tree's meant to be based off a strangler fig, or at least those trees they love to strangle
There was this plaza/mall we used to visit when I was little. It had a sort of rock wall installation with all these vertical, black abstract lines running down it, and I thought it was the most epic thing I'd ever seen. XD It was abstract, but it made the harshly-lit artificial space feel all rainforesty. I wish I knew which plaza it was lol.

When researching for VA the other day, I came across an interview with Shaun Tan, one of my favourite illustrators. I love his concept of nature-meets-technology, and his take on surrealism in general. Pretty damn amazing, to say the least.

Oh, and of course there had to be some Thomas Bergersen music thrown in the mix <3 [link] [link]

I don't see any definite meaning to this. For no defined reason, Zim and Dib have ended up in a weird-tentacle-forest-dream-land. I suppose it could be some metaphor for their relationship or something, if you're some kind of crazy broad-minded genius art interpretation person (I think the word might actually be critic, but not the cranky old farts who always say 'nay' to everything. The proper kind that actually give useful insight and feedback) (I'm sure not XD). Zim seems to be having some unprecedented and out-of-character interest in the tree (or perhaps not the tree itself, but rather the tentacles ). XD I threw around a few ideas as I was working, but none of them quite seemed to strike home. I guess this is just one of those interpret-as-you-see-fit pics. In any case, I hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoyed making it. ^^

Only thing is, the scanner crapped on the colours (colours?)... shading like it was a dunny can *shot*... so you can't view it in all its colourful glory x( Yeah... now that I look at it like this, it's kinda disappointing.

Overall, this'd have to top every other crappy pencil drawing I've done. Didn't use any fancy tools, just a simple HB pencil (or rather 3 separate ones)... it was sort of a challenge I appointed myself for no particular reason, to only use one shade of pencil. Except I cracked at the very end by using a blending stick on a few sections and going over Dib's facial outline with a B pencil. Close enough, yeah?

I may have totally screwed up the background, but it was all worth it for that tree. THE TREE MADE IT ALL WORTHWHILE. XD

Sorry for horrible quality too. The original was done in A3 size and wouldn't fit in the scanner, so much editing and tedious surgery had to be performed.
