What Is Blackbox And Why Should I Get It?After taking a look at the screenshots displayed either in my gallery or in :iconblackboxdesktop: 's galleries, a lot of Deviants are asking me what is Blackbox and how (and why) should they use it. And it's a good thing they show interest, because after a period of hibernation, due to many factors (mostly developers dropping out) Blackbox is back with a vengeance. What Is Blackbox And Why Should I Get It?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Well, Blackbox is a shell for Windows or a window manager for Linux, the styles (themes) being interchangeable between the two platforms, something unique in computing. In this essay I will only talk about the Windows flavor, since it's much more flexible than its Linux counterpart.
What is a shell? Well, it's the dressing over a cake, the clothing over a body, the greenery covering a bush. Every operating system has a shell. The Windows' native shell is Explorer, which is not only a file browser, like most of you may think. Delete Explorer and Windows crash. It's a fine shell, especially in the case of Windows 7, but it's h

3D Flash : An analog clock3D Flash : An analog clock3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Recently we have a new technology. That is a Flash scene performed on Flash player version 11. The Flash 11 can provide us playing 3D scene on real time using GPU. So we have a project for it. Today we would like to inform as our first piece was completed.
Unfortunately, that file could not upload to dA. Although we have tried to upload it, that has not been able to be played. We think that the 3D flash is not still supported at everywhere. But we believe that this will become one of typical applications. We uploaded it to our site. Please check it!

deviantART and Journal spam: what we're doing!Spam is a constant thorn in the side of every Internet user's daily life. From the mundane to the surreal, these emails appear in our inboxes so frequently, messages from South African attorneys offering $10 million dollars get marked as spam without a second thought to savvy users.deviantART and Journal spam: what we're doing!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
We define spam as the misuse of communication systems to send unsolicited bulk messages indiscriminately to our deviants. Typically, the content of spam messages is aimed at advertising a product that is often counterfeit or potentially malicious. With the rise of social networking, there's been an increase in more direct spamming -- companies who directly target your social network profiles.
"Over the last few years, deviantART has had a small but unfortunate stream of such abuse. Usually, it’s as easy as banning the offending members and moving on to more pressing problems, but recently something happened that caused us to re-evaluate how we handle spam issues."

KupferFor years, the usual way to start applications was to open a menu and click ones way through submenus, or to click on starters on the desktop or on the panel.Kupfer2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Gradually, some desktop environments added alternatives for users relying on the keyboard. Gnome Shell allows users to type the applications name, as does Unity.
Xfce users are not provided with anything like that by standard, but it is easy to add without having to drag a whole new desktop environment on the system.
kupfer is (not only) a launcher that makes starting programs a matter of a mere instant. Activate the launcher, type the program's name (or even only a part of it; to start Chromium I simply press c) and hit enter - that's it. Simple and quick.
Several plugins even allow you to search stuff at Wikipedia, control Audacious, open files, write Emails, switch between windows and workspaces ... it would take to much time and space to list all.

Text Beside Icons on the Desktop - NautilusI've decided to re-write this little tutorial for those who are interested in a more "Mac Feel" on the gnome Desktop.Text Beside Icons on the Desktop - Nautilus3 years ago in Personal More Like This
First, open terminal and write:
apt-get source nautilus
sudo apt-get build-dep nautilus
The build-dep command will install all the build dependencies for nautilus.
In nautilus sorce folder you just downloaded, navigate to: src\file-manager.
Find the file named: fm-desktop-icon-view.c
Open with your favorite Text Editor and find the line:
real_supports_labels_beside_icons (FMIconView *view)
Below it you'd see this line: return FALSE;
Change it to:
On GNOME3 and Nautilus 3.x+ search for the file: /src/nautilus-desktop-icon-view.c in the directory you just downloaded.
And look for this line: "supports-labels-beside-icons", FALSE,
Change FALSE to TRUE
Save the file.
Now start to compile Nautilus.
sudo make install
Choose Text Beside Icons in the Preferences.
Nautilus now should draw Text beside ico

Diablo 3 on GNU/LinuxI will start to post journals on how to run different kind of games on GNU/Linux. I hear a lot of times people claiming that you cannot play games on GNU/Linux, well, let me show you all the opposite by starting with Diablo 3!Diablo 3 on GNU/Linux3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Diablo 3 is really easy to install, by just using PlayOnLinux and the most recent Wine version. The installation process is pretty much straightforward and automatic.
After the installation, you just launch the launcher and press the big Play-button. Easy, right?
Pictures of Diablo 3 in action:
The average FPS in game is between 30 - 40, however that is basically because of using a laptop with poor graphic card, an NVIDIA 4200M with 512 MB RAM, but still enjoyable!
Devious Journal EntryUPDATE: Alright, I should hopefully have the pack out the door Saturday or Sunday (8/25 or 8/26), but my mom took away all my electronics for today so we'll see what happens (I'm supposed to be writing an essay right now, that's the only reason I could update this.), that's gonna set me back a bit. Ah, the problems of a teenager.Devious Journal Entry3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm really sorry to everyone that's been waiting for my Prime HD icons. I have them all finished (Around 100 in the pack, and I will be taking requests upon release. In fact, I'll list the ones I have here and anyone can comment with requests and I'll make them to put in the pack for release).
The reason it's taking so long is because I've been trying to make packs for popular launchers (LP/ADW, Nova, Apex, Go) to release on the market, in addition to zips on XDA, but have not gotten a single icon pack apk to compile. If anyone out there wants to give me some help with this, it would quicken the release a lot! I will also be releasing a MTZ for M
The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition (GOG) on GNU/LinuxSo, another game. This time, one of my favorites: The Witcher 2. If you liked the first Witcher, you should really really play Witcher 2. I'm not gonna talk so much about the contents of the game, there are a lot of sites for this. I'm gonna talk about how you install this on GNU/Linux.The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition (GOG) on GNU/Linux3 years ago in Personal More Like This
First of all, I use the version from GOG http://www.gog.com/, i.e. enhanced edition with patch 2.1. Now, this version is pretty difficult to install, so I try to be as informative as possible.
(1) Create a new WINEPREFIX. I create a fresh new WINEPREFIX for each game I install, hence avoiding to mix several games with one WINEPREFIX which may arise a lot of problems. Create a new fresh WINEPREFIX through terminal:
env winetricks prefix=Witcher_2 vcrun2010 d3dx10
This will install a new WINEPREFIX followed with vcrun2010 and d3dx10. Keep in mind to NOT change the order of vcrun2010 and d3dx10 cause otherwise it will fail.
(2) Install the game:
env WINEDEBUG="-all" WINEPREFIX="$HOME/.local/share/wineprefi
KDE 4Now KDE 4.10 has been released, the Smoother plasma theme I'm working on will be ready for KDE 4.10. There is nothing major but I'm just making sure it will offer some of the changes in 4.10, specifically new widget handle icons, adapted thin scrollbar design and some other bits that have changed.KDE 42 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's nice to work on themes that don't break in every release, KDE have done a great job in preserving legacy for theme makers throughout the 4 series and extending customisation, UI options for the users. KDE4 isn't a one size fits all design, so never does it force a hard coded desktop design that's half for PC's and half for other devices(i.e like GNOME3, Windows 8, Unity does), it gives you a desktop the way you want it. KDE also made good decisions at the start of KDE4 with Kwin and desktop compositing, you don't need a separate desktop if you don't have 3D acceleration, in fact KDE4 can use Xrender software acceleration, which gives you some of the features of 3D acceleration(like trans

The Devil Is In The DetailI'm taking my time on the Smoother Plasma theme, trying to get the more finer details right everywhere and making sure it looks right for KDE 4.10.The Devil Is In The Detail2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Here is the add widgets dialogue.
Here are the tasks.
Of course the details need to be smooth so I've paid attention in keeping the theme looking smooth all round and consistent. Hope you like it so far.
Changes to Zuki* projects.Zukitwo has been updated to work with 3.6. Plenty of new and old bugs plus regressions so far. Also some larger changes to certain parts of the theme.Changes to Zuki* projects.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Zukitwo-Dark has been scrapped because of lack of motivation. Gnome 3.6 is the worst Gnome release so far after all. (Apart from 3.0.)
Still not decided what to do with Zukini and Zukiwi. I like my latest creations more than Zukitwo, so maybe I'll just scrap all of them and create something new instead. (Once 3.8 is released maybe.)
I also think there are some Ubuntu specific bugs that I have no idea how to fix. I didn't take a closer look. No styles for the 3.4 components that are used in Ubuntu.
