Dodge Dart Contest Winners

Fri Jun 8, 2012, 11:06 AM

The designers at Chrysler had some tough decisions to make. The semi-finalists in both of the Digital and Traditional categories presented a wide variety of approaches and techniques all inspired by the new Dodge Dart. The three winners for Digital and Traditional were selected after much deliberation and consideration. They will soon be on display in the lobby of the Dodge-Chrysler headquarters.

by ~iron-maiden-art

When you first look at this mural you're amazed by the artistic use of color to create the scenic picture of the Dart and everywhere the Dart can take you. Then – to surprise you even more, when you look closer you realize that this art is actually made out of hundreds of pieces of colored paper! What amazing creativity, craftsmanship and patience it must have taken to put this piece together.

by *TheRafa

This art is like a poster straight out of a science fiction movie. The placement of the Dart and the use of color to make the car pop out of the chaos that is in this composition make it a very intense visual to look at. Also the longer you look at this piece the more you find in the composition. Very exciting.

by *NazarDud

This is a very abstract yet effective way to show an impression of the Dart. The "puddles" of red and grey paint make you want to stare at it longer and try to decipher what part of the car is what puddle of paint.

by *SgtBoognish

This piece is very interesting because there's no real clear representation of the Dart, however, the look of the color treatment makes the art look like something out of the bauhaus movement. The abstract use of the wheels lets you know that there's something automotive about this piece, however, it's abstract nature keeps you looking at it while trying to figure out what it means.

by *aegia

This intense interpretation of the Dart can be described with many words - Deep, cerebral, and psychedelic to be a few. The fact that there's no literal representation of the Dart makes the viewer really wonder what's in the head (or eye) of the artist. The vivid colors surrounding and flowing out of the eye give the piece a flow like the artwork is organic and alive.

by ~markduvjanco

One can only be amazed by this artwork when first looking at it. It resembles a character straight out of a Transformers movie. The photorealistic mechanical rendering of the Dart along with the soft, human flesh combine to create a very exotic-feeling piece. It almost doesn't look static when you look at it - it feels alive. The woman's eyes in the artwork follow you wherever you move... amazing..

The semi-finalists in both of the Digital and Traditional categories presented a wide variety of approaches and techniques all inspired by the new Dodge Dart. Read more to see which entries will soon be on display in the lobby of the Dodge-Chrysler headquarters.

Seniorityheader 2 by fourteenthstar
This article marks the latest announcements detailing the latest additions to the dizzy height of Senior members in our community. With just over 900 deviants holding the highly saught after ` -- it's clearly a moment that deserves recognition.

So what does it take to become a Senior? That's a question many have asked and have never really been able to get a straight answer on. Some have gained Seniority as a thank you for their time spent as a Volunteer, or to recognise their contribution to a particular project or collaborative action. Some have gained Seniority because of their community spirit, providing help and assistance to many other deviants and taking time out to promote the work of others in the community.

Some people have received Seniority because of their artistic endevours, having a positive influence on their peers by sharing resources, providing constructive criticism and by being a voice that stands out above the many others who deviate to be recognised in the crowd.

Today, we present to you the following deviants who have all been awarded Seniority as part of our quarterly community recognitions. They have all been nominated for their efforts in the community by multiple deviants, Staff and Volunteers.

Congratulations everyone! :dalove:

What comes to mind when you hear the name Pablo Picasso? That’s right, it’s time to break it down, Cubism-style! For the first time ever, we are hosting a Messenger Bag Design Challenge! We want you to create an original design for the flap of the bag in the style of Cubism.

For this challenge, we are defining Cubism as an art style in which instead of depicting objects from one viewpoint, the artist depicts the subject from multiple viewpoints to represent the subject in a greater context. Often, the surfaces intersect at seemingly random angles, removing a coherent sense of depth. The background and object planes interpenetrate one another to create a shallow ambiguous space.

Your design should appear on the flap of the bag (below the zipper), using only four colors. The templates provided come in black or grey so please do not change the color of the bag. Remember that the color of the bag can be used in your design without counting as one of the 4 colors you use!

With the Cubism Messenger Bag Design Challenge, we hope to see some exciting new images and perhaps some new deviants who haven’t participated in a Design Challenge yet. Give it a shot and get cubed!

:bulletgreen: Participation is easy!
  • You come up with potential designs for our deviantART Messenger Bags.
  • Deviants vote on their favorite designs.
  • Judges choose 2 designs from the highest-voted submissions.
  • Artists of the winning submissions get cash and their designs printed on Messenger Bags for all to see and buy!
Entries should display an original image or images in the style of Cubism. For more inspiration on this deviantART Design Challenge, check out the Cubism asset pack!

The templates:

:bulletgreen: Update!

Unfortunately there has been some confusion in regards to the design templates for the Cubism Design Challenge. Many entries have shown a different image for the top and bottom views of the template; however, the idea is to have only one unique image per entry. The top image of the template is a view of the full messenger bag. The bottom is a close up of just the flap where the design will be printed. If your current design entry has multiple images please adjust it to only have one. Any entries that show a different design on both template images will be removed from the design challenge category.

You may submit your entry with a design on the top image, the bottom image, or both but it must be the same image.

If you have multiple designs you may submit each as separate entries. Just note that only one of your Entries may be chosen as a Semi-Finalist or Finalist.

Please read the rules listed in the article for further guidance.

Thank you.

:bulletgreen: Prizes, prizes, prizes!

Two winners will be selected! Each winner receives $1,500 cash and 10 Messenger Bags with his or her winning design! Plus, each of the winning designs will be sold in the deviantART Shop. You could find your Cubism design printed on someone’s bag out in the world someday.

:bulletgreen: Not a designer?

You can vote, too! Just like the last Design Challenge, you still have a chance to make an impact and determine the future of deviantART’s designs without being a designer by voting. All throughout the Design Challenge, keep an eye on the Cubism Category.

If you see a design that would make a great Messenger Bag, click “I Want This” on the deviation to cast your vote for the entry. View the entries right now!

:bulletgreen: Worried about cheaters?

Don’t worry. When the contest is over, deviantART will review the source of all entry data (including but not limited to username and IP data) for suspicious activity and remove fraudulent votes. Also, just because a design has the most votes doesn’t mean it automatically wins. Some designs are disqualified for not following the rules. The 100 qualifying designs receiving the most votes will move to the final judging round, where our panel of experts will pick two winners.

:eager: Don’t delay!

Hurry! The deadline for entries is June 12, 2012, and voting ends on June 17, 2012. Submit your designs and cast your votes now!

Click here to get started! And be sure to read the Official Terms for all the technical details.

Let those Cubism ideas jump out of your head and onto a Messenger Bag! :la:

It is time for another Typography contest! The theme of this contest will be…

Bring your Type to Life

This may sound abstract at first, but to keep the theme as open as possible, I choose a rather abstract title. There are many directions in which you can go. You could choose an anthropomorphic direction, where you breathe life into letters and give them human or other animate characteristics. Another route would be to create the letters out of living objects, such as plants or animals.

Which direction you choose, maybe even a third or fourth one, does not matter. What matters is that your letters are brought to life!

What kind of letters you bring to life, words, glyphs or sentences, is 100% up to you. This contest has a more visual approach, so you will not be judged on the creativity of the meaning you choose to give to the letters. However, don't rush it! Even one letter can appear completely different than another. Be wise with the letters, words or sentences you choose.

I hope this theme will be inspiring, to both Traditional and Digital Typographers, maybe even for Photo Manipulators, and even a Typography Beginner can create something awesome! There is no limitation on the media you use. You will have almost 2 months time to enter a submission, so I will post a lot of reminders ;)

Let's get creative!

The contest is open for all media!

This means for Traditional, that you can use Watercolors, Oil, Pencil, Ink, Collage, Installation, Sculpture etc. There is no limit as to what you can use!
For Digital Media, this includes Photo Manipulation, Vector, Vexel, 3D as well as Drawings or Paintings. Again, the only limit is your imagination.
Of course, you can also submit a Mixed Media entry, in which you combine Traditional and Digital elements.

Timing

  • Must be a new deviation, submitted after July 1st, 2012.
  • Deadline is August 26th, 2012. Any submission after that will not be taken into consideration.

Rules

  • It must, obviously, contain Typography.
  • Any medium is allowed, Traditional & Digital, as well as Mixed Media.
  • Please remember to follow the deviantArt Submission Policy.
  • Credit any stock material you use: This includes Photography, Textures, Vector Resources and Fonts!
  • You can enter more than once, but only be under the top 3 with one entry.
  • Only Entries in the Contests > 2012 > Bring Your Type to Life gallery are accepted.

Prizes

12 months Premium Mbsp.
1600 deviantART points

6 months Premium Membership
1 Emoticon Stressballs set

1 month Premium Membership
1 Stressball Keychain

You will receive notes after the contest about your prize. For the Key Chain or Stressball set, you will be required to add those items to your wish list. All other details would follow via note.

If you have any question regarding the contest, you can ask in a comment here or somewhere else on my profile or send me a note :)

I am looking forward to your entries :eager: :la: :peace:

It's time for our next deviantWEAR Design Challenge, and this one is a little different. Writers, you play a crucial role! We're calling on deviants to create an original phrase, statement, or saying and transform these writings into an artistic and unique t-shirt design. Entries should display an imaginative phrase, expression, or statement as well as a beautiful presentation of the words in a "Design Typography" style.

We are not looking for famous quotes by historical figures, fictional characters, famous poets, and the like. Instead, we are excited to see designs and phrases in your very own words. So let your creative juices flow and share your inspiring words with the world! A picture tells a thousand words, but your typographical design for the "Original Quotes" entry will tell us even more!

:star: Participation is easy!

You come up with potential designs for our deviantWEAR t-shirts.

Post entries to the design challenge.

Deviants vote on their favorite designs.

Judges choose 3 winning designs: 2 designs based on the highest-voted submissions and 1 design from ALL of the Entries to the Challenge.

Artists of the winning submissions get cash and their designs printed on t-shirts and sold in deviantWEAR shop!

For more inspiration on the deviantWEAR Design Challenge, check out the “Original Quotes” Challenge Category!

:star: Prizes, prizes, prizes!

Three winners will be selected!  Each winner receives $1,500 cash and 20 units of their t-shirt! Plus, each of the winning designs will be sold in deviantWEAR. You could find your “Original Quotes” design emblazoned on someone’s shirt out in the wild someday.

:star: Not a designer?

If you’re not interested in entering, you still have a chance to make an impact and determine the future of deviantWEAR's designs without being a designer.  All throughout the Design Challenge, keep an eye on the “Original Quotes” Category.  If you see a design that would make a great shirt, click "I’d Wear This" on the deviation to cast your vote for the entry. View the entries!

:star: Worried about cheaters?

Fret not.  When the contest is over, deviantART will review the source of all entry data (including but not limited to username and IP data) for suspicious activity and remove fraudulent votes.  We will also review ALL entries to ensure they qualify. Additionally, just because a design has the most votes doesn't mean it automatically wins.  The 50 designs receiving the most votes will move to the final judging round. Then, our panel of experts will pick two of the most inspiring phrases and best typographically designed “Original Quotes” t-shirts to produce, along with an additional finalist that will be selected from all of the entries to the Challenge.

But hurry! The deadline for entries is May 15, 2012, and voting ends on May 22, 2012. Submit your designs and cast your votes now!

:megaphone: Don't delay!
