Morrowind FeatureMorrowind Feature4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind is my favourite game of all time, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. I've been planning for awhile to put together a game-inspired feature; unfortunately, it is very hard to find genuine fan art since most Morrowind-related deviations on dA are game screenshots (or manipulations thereof), and I found only a limited number of devs I could use.
For those unfamiliar with the game, Morrowind is an open-ended first-person RPG with an expansive and detailed world, released in 2002. The central plot concerns the deity Dagoth Ur, housed within the volcanic Red Mountain, who seeks to gain power and break Morrowind free from Imperial reign. In addition to the extensive main quest, there are detailed discursive quests for a variety of factions, including various guilds, religious organizations, and aristocratic houses.
Lord Voryn Dagoth had been a good friend of Lord Indoril Nerevar, but they tu

There are struggling artist on here who are more creative and draw better than you. They don't do fan art out of Dignity. These artist also do it for the ability to draw, You are plainly here for a Dollar and nothing less, It is almost sickening how someone like you can appear and instantly do this while creative people with original ideas, Unlike you, Are struggling.
I am blocking you. I want NOTHING to do with you. Hopefully you won't last too long on here."
Ok, fair enough, fair enough. I'm definitely here on DeviantArt for the DEVIANT side more than the ART side. Big surprise, right?
Yeah, people stuggle. I'm one of them. Dignity is a relative term though.
Do I WANT to draw boobs, simply for (as you so eloquently put it) "the ability to draw?" Yeah.
Do I WANT to draw ponies, simply for (as you so eloquently put it) "the ability to draw?" Yeah.

I can't say everything I want to, in order to express how important not only my following as an artist has become, but how you've all helped inspire me to follow my dreams to the utmost extent. Over the past fifteen years, and since I originally found Deviantart, this site has helped platform me into the artist I am today. I also created and showcased my IP, LMS: Killbook of a Bounty Hunter, through Deviantart.
I hope this blog post does justice in telling that story, and how important it is to follow your dreams and passion. And while I haven't been as active online, I can promise I have been behind the scenes.
Thank you for believing in my dream, and again, enjoy the read.

My Two cents on Portfolio ReviewsYou know, I see quite a bit of portfolio on a regular basis, and even more so when I go to comic con and CTN.My Two cents on Portfolio Reviews3 years ago in Personal More Like This
This time around was the same thing, I saw quite a few portfolios. Some good ones and some that miss the mark.
There were a few in particular that caught my eye.. a few extremely good ones, and a few that just didn't work, and I wanted to try and share my opinions about portfolios in general.
This is just my point of view, based on MY experience and definitely not a definitely law, rule, or "must do". Just what I noticed in many student's and young professional's portfolios.
The first thing that strikes me is how similar portfolios can be from one student to another..I can almost always tell when one student is from Art Center, San Jose State, Otis, Sheridan or any other major school. It's a good thing and a bad thing. Mainly a bad thing though
Just a few personal thoughts on portfolios since I just came back from comic con and saw a ton over there.
Your portfolio should be a r

so, this july i am starting death vigil, published by image/top cow. it will be a monthly series limited to three 8-issue arcs, so there is a definitive ending. with this i have learned some of the things about publishing independent comics, and i am planning a video with some tips after i summarize my experiences. hopefully it will prove helpful for others to get their stuff published
but apparently rule 1 is promote preorders. preorders are crucial for independent books as they define the print runs, and are crucial to the sucess of the book.. so.. as my far more experienced friends told me to do....
death vigil is preorderable ...pretty much in any place or webstore that carries US comics.
you can find an extensive preview to issue 1 and much more here

The grand city of Taitle, once bustling with life and thought and steam-powered inventions, stands deserted save for the stray passing inventor salvaging scrap metal from its workings and a stubborn old man http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb2/Sins-of-Angels/Oldmansketch.jpg who has lived on the same plot of land his ancestors have all his life. He didnt mind the old abandoned buildings, the winding Victorian architecture that was crumbling in places, or the almost rhythmic release of steam from street vents. No one knew where the vents went, or why they were there, or even how to properly begin to repair the citys maze of architecture to make it living again, but the vents are there, leading to nowhere, and the city is there, and had, at one point, worked for the people in it. All it works for now, o

BronyCon... Fail.Alright...BronyCon... Fail.4 years ago in Personal More Like This
First off, I have decided NOT to attend to Bronycon. I already paid for my ticket and table and all but... Meh... It's not that big of a financial loss.
I do feel I owe an explanation to many of you though, particularly some of my friends. It's no big surprise I don't really draw much MLP anymore. In fact, I haven't for several months, aside from sales reward stuff. It's not a knock against the show or its fans at all. I just kinda lost interest. Happens! But again, this shouldn't surprise anyone. I'm more apt to draw OC stuff, and always have been, sales rewards aside.
I think saying things like "OMG I R QUIT FANDUM" is pretty dumb. It's like saying you're going to quit MySpace or Facebook. Who the fuck cares? And you KNOW you'll probably still doodle stuff here and there, you know? Why make some drama about it? People's interest slowly and gradually change. Did anyone here quit the POG FANDOM?! WHAT ABOUT THE CREEPY CRAWLER FANDOM?! I'm not going to sever all connections t

'I HATE that trashy Image style. Hiding bad drawing with flashy technique….'
Oh boy. I'm so tired of hearing this.
The internet nearly broke yesterday with a battle (on FaceBook) around good drawing, bad drawing, technique, bad manners, being able to take criticism or not, and whether a certain artist did or didn't deserve his success, and why we hate him, or not. It was epic.
I'm not going to go into the details. It got out of hand. My toes curled when I read all the comments. My heart sank. The entire original point of the thread was buried under a mound of vitriol which, justified or not, made me a little ashamed of my industry.
Comics are not all about good drawing. I've seen plenty of Jack Kirby anatomy that aligns to reality only in the most rudimentary sense, but we all know he was great.
The so-called Image style actually evolved at Marvel - and if

The Silver Eye is my fantasy-adventure webcomic and this contest is to celebrate the ending of its first volume! Winners will be chosen by me and my trusted advisers, and the winning entries will be announced Friday, April 10th!
The Theme is... Speculations for Volume 2!
Here’s a chance to be imaginative and think about where the story could go. Your entry can be anything from a serious prediction, a silly scenario, costume/scenery design, or even a flashback you’d like to see! (Keep in mind Volume 2 is the middle arc, so it doesn't cover to the end of the story)
1st Place - $100
2nd Place - $50

You’re not obligated to have read all of The Silver Eye, though it would definitely help, since you would be more familiar with the story!

I'm only going off of my own personal experiences talking about these few things. (And I'm not specifically talking about ONLY dA here.) So take it with as many grains of salt as you can.
I've recently been asked questions like "How do I get people to see my work?", "Why am I not receiving commission inquiries?", "Why isn't anyone following my work?", "What can I do to get better?". Often, and I answered it before, the answer is as simple as this:
Create, as in, DRAW. PAINT. RENDER. SCULPT. You have to do develop a tolerance (or the obvious definition: LOVE) for creating if you want exposure and to get better. You have to LOVE the drawing or illustration that you HATE how it came out in the end. You have to ask yourself after every piece, what could I have done to do that differently. And you have to do this frequently.
Some folks come on the scene, post once or twice a week, and expect an audience to flock yo

Was 1979 the most glorious year in world history?
I will give you three compelling arguments for why the answer is yes. For starters, it inspired the best pop–rock song about coming of age ever recorded: The Smashing Pumpkins’s 1979. Second, it is the year that gave us two groundbreaking developments in sci–fi filmmaking: Ridley Scott’
