Don't go to Art School!I have not been brave enough to utter that sentence- until today. Today is the day I read THIS GREAT ARTICLE by Noah Bradley: https://medium.com/i-m-h-o/138c5efd45e9 I have been more and more bothered by us artists paying for art schools that cost as much as Ivy League law schools (or more) only to come out of said schools not able to find art jobs to pay off the mounds of debt that has left school with you! This article also mirrors my own feelings: its not about the instructors (or very rarely). They are underpaid and under appreciated. Some don't have the proper art training but have replaced that with Master's degrees, which is a pet peeve of mine as far as the costs the students are paying for that instruction. But, again, that's not the instructor's fault. They were able to get that job because only those with Master's degrees can fill those positions. They worked for that degree, so good for them. 3D fractal artwork seems to me to be an ideal medium for book cover artwork, and I'm looking forward to receiving many more commissions for similar work in future.

stuff I'm doing right now... :Bjust thought I'd kept you updated on what's causing me to post less art nowadays. Not sure if anyone's been noticing that, though, but this month I've been focusing on a graphic novel I'm working on. It's a graphic novel that I can't tell you about or show you, because it's my entry to this huge comic-contest that's going on here in Norway now. I've got just a few days to finish the first five pages, and so far I've only finished the first page 80% and then some drawings that will be panels, etc.. I have sketches on all five pages, but I want them to look really good for this contest, so the whole process of "perfecting" the drawings is quite time consuming. But hopefully it will be worth it somewhat. I've also gotta write a synopsis/summary of the entire graphic novel. It doesn't have to be a long summary, which is what's gonna be a bit tough for me. I tend to get carried away when I write, and I'd love to write a long summary of my graphic novel, but shortening it to only five sentenstuff I'm doing right now... :B3 years ago in Personal More Like This

For Beta Testers: Thumb Grid!
Back in April we launched the new deviantART thumbnails to the Beta Testers. Over the last few months we've received a great deal of feedback from the community. We're always working to ensure that we put out products that are best for our community, and so today we'd like to announce some new options being added to these thumbnails to give you the best browsing experience.
Rainmeter Code Walkthrough #1 - Do I Need a JacketThis is a code walkthrough of my "Do I Need a Jacket?" Rainmeter weather skin. The goal of the skin is to replicate doineedajacket.com in a Rainmeter weather skin, including the ability of the end user to set their own temperature thresholds. Here's a screenshot of what this skin looks like:Rainmeter Code Walkthrough #1 - Do I Need a Jacket4 years ago in Personal More Like This

New deviantART ThumbnailsIn the weekly Site Updates, we've been telling you all about the changes that have been launched to deviantART, getting your feedback, and reporting all the bugs that have been fixed.New deviantART Thumbnails4 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
This change is a little different, since it involves a feature that has been in place for a long time. We think it deserves an announcement of its own, ahead of time.
The current deviantART thumbnails (the smaller versions of deviations) have served the community well for years; however, there's always room for improvement.
Some of the problems with existing thumbnails are: they leave a lot of blank space around them, there isn't a lot of room for text for literature deviations, and the thumbnails don't present very tall/wide images well.
The New Thumbnails
Now, we've created a new style of thumbnail, which hopes to solve a lot of these problems.
We've made all thumbnails bigger! We're showing them in tidier row

Firstly people like THIS and THIS that remind me why people suck. Not only do people suck, they suck the hairiest set of donkey BALLS you ever did see. The kind of balls that make you scream in fucking TERROR and hide under your blankets like a 5 year old who believes it they can't see IT, they can't see THEM.
Homophobia is honestly the most childish and stupid thing I have ever heard of and seen. Quite frankly, is pisses me right the fuck off. I mean, GAWD, who died and told them they could treat people the way they do? It sure as hell wasn't GOD.
And the moment you say something back about their hate, they immediately go "omg, you're just in denial" (denial of WHAT!?) or "what about love and tolerance?" (Um, we have it, but it's hard to tolerate the hate that spews from your mouth, dude).
I've heard so many different statements about how homosexuality is so damn hor

Artists have always feared that they are unappreciated and that the march of progress comes only from business, science and their machines. 1984 was imagined by an artist projecting these exact fears. Mysterious Hum Driving People Crazy! Mysterious hum driving people crazy around the world!Mysterious Hum Driving People Crazy!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It creeps in slowly in the dark of night, and once inside, it almost never goes away.
It's known as the Hum, a steady, droning sound that's heard in places as disparate as Taos, N.M.; Bristol, England; and Largs, Scotland.
But what causes the Hum, and why it only affects a small percentage of the population in certain areas, remain a mystery, despite a number of scientific investigations.
Reports started trickling in during the 1950s from people who had never heard anything unusual before; suddenly, they were bedeviled by an annoying, low-frequency humming, throbbing or rumbling sound.
The cases seem to have several factors in common: Generally, the Hum is only heard indoors, and it's louder at night than during the day. It's also more common in rural or suburban environments; reports of a hum are rare in urban areas, probably because of the steady background noise in crowded cities.
Taking GameStop Down a PegLast year Moviebob (aka: The Game Overthinker) made a video http://www.screwattack.com/shows/partners/game-overthinker/game-overthinker-episode-41-revolution in which he detailed the bad position the video game industry is in thanks to GameStop. Since the latest Mario, Zelda, and COD games have just hit shelves, I thought now would be a good time to try putting his suggestions into effect.Taking GameStop Down a Peg4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm going to try and use my platform here on DA to reach out to my fellow gamers and recommend that, if possible, you don't buy your big ticket titles at GameStop for the next few months.
I'm not gonna give any lengthy reasons for doing so, all that can be found in the video link. I just personally have issues with GameStop (the company not the employees), and want to do my part to take them down a peg.
So if you can, don't go to GameStop to buy your big ticket titles unless there really are no other stores available to you. Go to Target, Walmart, Best Buy, or buy online. If you need to go to GameSto
My Thoughts on Occupy Wall StreetFor the past couple of weeks I've been getting a few suggestions that I make some artwork in support of the "Occupy Wall Street movement. I've thus far refrained from doing so because I honestly don't know enough about the movement to definitively put my weight behind it. Unlike supporting the gay rights movement which have clearly defined goals they want to achieve, thus far the OWS doesn't seem to have any clear agenda. My Thoughts on Occupy Wall Street4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Personally I don't really understand what the OWS stands for other than being angry at excess spending, which I kinda thought was pretty universal to begin with. And while the OWS is becoming a huge thing and spreading all over the country like wildfire... since there's no clear protest, no leaders, not even any clear goals... I don't really understand what they hope to accomplish or how they expect anything to actually get done.
Don't get me wrong. I support the right to protest. Protesting is a peaceful way to demonstrate your beliefs and potentially effect change i

Sta.sh Visual Refresh
Today we have released a visual refresh of Sta.sh, deviantART's upload and publishing platform, giving it a cleaner, more modern look. One of the most apparent things you'll notice is a major change in the header, which is now white, to match the rest of Sta.sh. In addition, when viewing something in another user's Sta.sh, the topbar will display their icon and username, to indicate that you are in their Sta.sh and not your own.

Change is not something that we take lightly, because it affects our collective identity. It was important for us to define who we are and what we’re made of at our core before we changed anything. We all have our own understanding of what that means, but the process of getting that core story down on paper took almost a year.
The result is “Bleed and Breed Art.” This is our center of gravity and our reason for getting out of bed i

The Capture vs. The Pose
portrait of a WW2 vet...
When a subject poses to have his or her photograph taken, the subject tries to project a message about himself or
herself by how he or she “poses”, by the attitude of his or her body language or facial expression.
If the subject is posed by the photographer, the body pulled and prodded into the desired angles,
the facial expression “directed”, it is the photographer who is intending to communicate a message.
In either case, posing or posed, there is undeniably something “false” in the representation.

Internet BullyingFor many kids growing up in the 80's, if you were bullied in school you were able to "tough it out" because you knew your social interaction with said bully was isolated only to when you were in close proximity of them. When the bell range and you went home, you could dismiss the bully's taunting and physical abuse and be reminded of friends and family who supported you and kept your spirits up.Internet Bullying4 years ago in Personal More Like This
But in today's day and age of seemingly constant online connectivity, the "victims" of bullying have a harder time escaping. Once the bell rings, they're still potentially subject to be bullied via verbal assaults online, which often goes completely unnoticed by parents and friends. The worse part of this is that we're often told that because it happens "on the internet" there's no real consequences of trolling or bullying, which is far from true.
I've never accepted the excuse that just because "it happens on the internet" means it can't personally harm you in real life. Part of that is from m

This week I happened across a Photographer who shoots the economy - currently in the UK. If you ever wondered what Economy looks like - and what the recession looks like - in the Photographic sense then wonder no more. Simon Robert's has it captured. What really struck me though, aside from the complete normality and sometimes mundane life that made the photographs, was the comments on the Article that I read about Simon. The BBC Wrote about him yesterday and nearly all the comments were from people advocating boredom. The Irony is that Simon Robert's had, in full colour, photographed our lives. And the general consensus was that it was dull and unimaginative. How very English we are.
