Last year I was contacted by Simon & Schuster to do new covers for their upcoming boxed set of The Dark Is Rising Sequence By Susan Cooper! I am incredibly honored to have worked on them, they are such wonderful books. The boxed set will be available 6/11/13.
Don't go to Art School!I have not been brave enough to utter that sentence- until today. Today is the day I read THIS GREAT ARTICLE by Noah Bradley: https://medium.com/i-m-h-o/138c5efd45e9 I have been more and more bothered by us artists paying for art schools that cost as much as Ivy League law schools (or more) only to come out of said schools not able to find art jobs to pay off the mounds of debt that has left school with you! This article also mirrors my own feelings: its not about the instructors (or very rarely). They are underpaid and under appreciated. Some don't have the proper art training but have replaced that with Master's degrees, which is a pet peeve of mine as far as the costs the students are paying for that instruction. But, again, that's not the instructor's fault. They were able to get that job because only those with Master's degrees can fill those positions. They worked for that degree, so good for them. Welcome to the next installment of A Week in dA Related!
A Week in dA Related is a weekly news article series that aims to bring you the most important and fun deviantART and dA Related news from the previous week. It also includes a handful of features from the gallery that were submitted in the last 7 days.
If you have any deviantART Related news you'd like to share, shoot a note to bradleysays.
This issue covers May 14th to May 20th, 2012
From the Writer
First of all, I hope you all had a splendid week. There were some exciting new changes on dA this week. The one that most of you should be already aware of are username changes. The deviantART community as a whole seem to be split on whether it's beneficial to the community. I'd really love to hear what you think about it all.
Another major thing is our dA Related CV, namenotrequired has taken over another g

Anybody see the latest My Little Pony episode? Holy hell... they actually had "derpy hooves" in the episode and Rainbowdash herself SAYS her name is "Derpy." Even if you don't like MLP:FiM, the fact that the creators of the series went so far as to take a fan created character (fan created in the sense that fans named a unintended background character mistake), use her fan given name (which happened to be meme-tastic) and not only acknowledge it but to actually PUT it into an episode like that... wow. I have a feeling this is kinda the next step of fanbase and media building. And it's awesome! So yeah... "Derpy Hooves" is 100% legit now.
Been watching a lot of minecraft tutorials on mechanisms and machines. Some of them are absolutely insane, and some of them are actually practical. I would very much like to build a "stronghold" in my world which is completely enemy defense proof. Automatic drawbrid

Why are most designers male?As a foreword I should note that the following is unresearched opinion. Why are most designers male?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Recently I've thought a bit about my particular industry (design, visual communication, branding, etc) and why it is the way it is. One of the aspects I've been hung-up on for a while has been the strangely overwhelming quantity of male designers vs female designers. Why are most of them male?
It's not a talent issue
My first thought was, are males simply more artistically inclined than females? Because design is so much about the visually communicative element, one might assume that if males tend to be more artistically inclined than females, then it would make sense that more males tend to naturally want to design things. But I don't think that's it at all. If you simply look at a statistic from deviantART itself, you'll find that we have an almost even split of males and females as active members.
It's not organizational
Much of design is actually just organizing information. Wh

Rainsweeper by Kaelri is another leap in making Rainmeter do things that no one ever thought possible. Through the use of a clever Lua script Rainsweeper is a clone of the classic Minesweeper game. The ingenious design allows for many features including a GUI options editor, saved high scores, and it has no images or other resource files making it light as it can be.
Thanks for the hard work on another amazing skin!
DDs: Suggester's frustrationsWelcome to a new journal in this mini series about Daily Deviations. In the first one I let you know about what I think DDs represent, and then about some of my personal criteria to select them.DDs: Suggester's frustrations2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Now is time to focus on the suggesters. Those amazing (almost always human) beings who take a moment of their lives to go the extra mile when finding an amazing deviation and suggest it for consideration as a Daily Deviation. Ya know? I wouldn't be able to feature so many amazing art on my own! So before anything else, I want to take a moment to thank all the amazing people who suggest. Thank you guys!
As a person who also suggests DDs once in a while, I do understand the frustration suggesters often get. So I would like in this occasion to explain some of the reasons why th

Celebrate deviantART's 13th Birthday!Celebrate deviantART's 13th Birthday!1 year ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
On the day of your birth, you were likely surrounded by those who loved you, who would lead you through the rough first scary years of life, and who would stand by as you grew into a capable person. As time passed, others may have drifted into your life, and even if you didn't know it, they also nurtured and cared for you in much the same way, helping to shape the person you would become.
When a community like deviantART is born, the same common thread binds its originators and founding members together. Over the years, more and more creative beings drift into its life and strengthen its core every single day, resulting in an exponentially inspirational powerhouse for the sheer fact that they've become a part of it. That nurturing spirit, that inherent support system, that caring community inspires deviantART to grow, and it comes from inside each and every one of you.

1M Downloads & GithubThis day marks a special milestone of achievement for the developers of Omnimo. A humble project that started almost two years ago reached one million downloads today. Most of you probably don't know that this project was supposed to be much smaller. When I came up with the early concept in the middle of March, I intended it to have approximately 12 panels and several text items.1M Downloads & Github3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Omnimo: The Beginning
Nothing more. However, shortly after the concept, Xyrfo joined the project. And with our combined passion and ambition, as well as with some help from others, we managed to create the biggest Rainmeter suite ever. Xyrfo did some amazing stuff for the project. Things without which it would just remain but a dream of a madman. But he did it! For that, he deserves no less recognition than I do.
And of course, we would like to thank the community for all the support! You guys are awesome! Nothing motivates doing a project better than to see people use and enjoy the product. W

Comment Counts Under Thumbnail Images
Two weeks ago, we released comment counts under thumbnail images to Beta Testers. Today, the feature has been rolled out to everyone. We believe that this feature adds more context to the experience of viewing artwork on deviantART. You'll now find comment counts underneath the thumbnails of deviations -- they can be seen when browsing or searching art, and also display in your Message Center. We hope this feature will help bring to light the fact

stuff I'm doing right now... :Bjust thought I'd kept you updated on what's causing me to post less art nowadays. Not sure if anyone's been noticing that, though, but this month I've been focusing on a graphic novel I'm working on. It's a graphic novel that I can't tell you about or show you, because it's my entry to this huge comic-contest that's going on here in Norway now. I've got just a few days to finish the first five pages, and so far I've only finished the first page 80% and then some drawings that will be panels, etc.. I have sketches on all five pages, but I want them to look really good for this contest, so the whole process of "perfecting" the drawings is quite time consuming. But hopefully it will be worth it somewhat. I've also gotta write a synopsis/summary of the entire graphic novel. It doesn't have to be a long summary, which is what's gonna be a bit tough for me. I tend to get carried away when I write, and I'd love to write a long summary of my graphic novel, but shortening it to only five sentenstuff I'm doing right now... :B2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Firstly people like THIS and THIS that remind me why people suck. Not only do people suck, they suck the hairiest set of donkey BALLS you ever did see. The kind of balls that make you scream in fucking TERROR and hide under your blankets like a 5 year old who believes it they can't see IT, they can't see THEM.
Homophobia is honestly the most childish and stupid thing I have ever heard of and seen. Quite frankly, is pisses me right the fuck off. I mean, GAWD, who died and told them they could treat people the way they do? It sure as hell wasn't GOD.
And the moment you say something back about their hate, they immediately go "omg, you're just in denial" (denial of WHAT!?) or "what about love and tolerance?" (Um, we have it, but it's hard to tolerate the hate that spews from your mouth, dude).
I've heard so many different statements about how homosexuality is so damn hor
