New Premium Membership Feature: 10% off!You may have already heard, but we just launched a new feature as part of the Premium Membership package... Premium Members now receive an ongoing 10% discount on Prints and deviantWEAR purchases! That means they'll be saving 10% on all Photo Prints, Fine Art Prints, Wrapped Canvases, Art Gifts, T-shirts, Backpacks, Hoodies, and the rest of our devious gear. If that wasn't a sweet-enough deal, we've made it so that this discount stacks with most other sales that happen in our shop. For example, if we're running a 15% discount on Fine Art Prints, Premium Members will get a total of 25% off because of their additional 10% discount.New Premium Membership Feature: 10% off!4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Why are we doing this?
Why not?! We wanted to add this discount as a small token of our appreciation for all the support Premium Members provide us. While we have many more upgrades in the works for the Premium Membership package, I'm excited that we were able to get this to you all in time for the holiday season.
How's it work?
Art InvestigationA natural need came to me this year, the need to start my own Art investigation to focuse my work on a concret theme and technique, wich will help me to get different personal goals. I hope I can deal with it with enthusiasm and discipline for what I beg you for your best wishes and prayers. I bet for art as my way of life, my way to recover many things.Art Investigation1 year ago in Personal More Like This

Cards on the tableI sometimes feel like a bit of a moral coward, like a great many I know who are straight and white and male - the least persecuted combination on the planet! - but who are also very open-minded. I worry about saying what I truly think and believe - particularly online - for fear of getting into an argument with less tolerant, more puritanical people than I, or people that have faith in the unknowable (which is something I took a good stab at for a decade or so, but ultimately found misleading, hollow, insubstantial and unsubstantiated.) I hate conflict, and the internet often gives people bigger bollocks than they might have face to face. It gets pretty nasty, I've noticed, with very little tolerance and almost no give and take.Cards on the table2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Sometimes, though, I feel a need to put my cards on the table. If I am to call myself an artist I should be clear about what defines me, who I am, and how I perceive everything around me. It is what drives me after all! So with that said...
What the hell
Sesshomaru's Name....This time, we're going to take a hard look at Sesshomaru's name and it's translation.Sesshomaru's Name....3 years ago in Personal More Like This
"Sesshomaru" breaks into three kanji characters:
殺 生 丸
or Sesshomaru together.
Let's look at them one at a time:
This is a ten stroke character that is pronounced "se-tsu" or サイ.
Generally, it can mean one of the following:
kill, murder, slay, suppress, stifle, smother
It is character 488 in A Guide to Remembering Japanese Characters, and appears on page 150.
If we dissect setsu, we get the following:
The first half of setsu is a corruption of the character for "pig" (character 1670 page 533) and the second half is the character for "strike/weapon in the hand" (character 153 page 43).
Together, they make up the single kanji "setsu" and it represents to kill with a weapon.
The next character of his name is 生 , which is a five stroke character, (number 42 on page 12 of the aforementioned book), and while in thi

Amongst the Elves and Fae
“Where is the breadcrumb trail of fairytales, and breath of mother nature? We have grown blind to ancestors and their lore, surrendered to fantasy what we believed before. Yet still we dream of elves and fae, of fluttering twilight sprites and lords of timeless halls; we long for lands where battles are won with bow and arrow, skies belong to eagles, and fields feel the flow of magic under the grass. How have we come so far, and how to go back?”

Art in Contemplation of Its Own BecomingDuchamp finds a discarded urinal. He alters it (by signing a name to it not even his own, but obviously “the artist’s”) and names it “The Fountain”. The most mundane, even off-putting, of objects is transformed by Duchamp into art. He submits it for exhibition and it is rejected. You might say the judges “pissed on” his idea. But the idea was born and persisted. Duchamp insisted the object was art because he as an artist presented it as such. “Conceptual Art” was born.Art in Contemplation of Its Own Becoming3 years ago in Personal More Like This

How I (Finally) Got Good SkinI get lots of compliments on my skin in my photos. I got told yesterday on my latest set how nice it was. I won't ever deny it; I use photoshop to take out distracting blemishes, but for the most part, my skin is how you see it. I wanted to go into a bit more depth on how I got to this place. This journal may get a bit gross at times, just sayin'How I (Finally) Got Good Skin3 years ago in Personal More Like This
My skin was not always baby-smooth. Throughout my teenage years I had what is known as cystic acne. Life was depressing. I can't say which kind of acne is worse, all-over surface type, or one single giant zit-from-hell in the middle of your forehead. I had the second kind. I was extremely self-concious, and I wouldn't have dared to take stock photos had I not found a way to clear up my skin. Day-to-day, I took my stress out by picking at my skin. You can't see it in my photos now, but I do have some permanent damage from skin-picking. It's a reminder that self-harm is self-harm. You don't have to be taking a razorblade to you

According to the Chinese zodiac, 2012 has ushered in the year of the dragon upon the world stage.

the dragon mythology has long been firing the kiln of our dreams with fright and menace. When we are speaking of

The Grey in this City...It creeps into every little corner, every curled-up warmth, every carved-out resting place, every ragged crevice. It rasps in my throat and it gasps when I wake and it chokes when I fall and in every way every single day is coloured grey. The Grey in this City...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
'And the grey in this city is too much to bear'
And it weighs so heavy and my shoulders ache.
But every heartbeat, every crash of the drum makes it mine, shapes it, takes it, funnels it into a bottle and stoppers it. Down in one and the devil's on your back and in your veins, or maybe you're in his. And the damage is done and the image was never sacred and just watch how quickly you are no longer forged in wrought iron and starlight, how quickly you are cast in low plastic.
Where's the ache that shaped the shadows and placed the light with such care? Where's the firelight and the cold deep dark?
I will not live just to grow old.
These hands are not content, no leeching grey thoughts will stop them when they choose to build.
Wonder in a heartbeat and w

What Keeps Mankind AliveThere are trees here, but they hold their branches high because they must in order to survive, there is no strength to them. What Keeps Mankind Alive3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The river flows.
The Oracle squats, fat and artificial and effluent over the muddied waters as they crawl sluggishly through the car fumes and discarded cans.
This place of polished plastic architecture and the pre-aged pre-torn clothes feels sick. The people are made of the same lifeless plastic as the cartons and crisp packets that creep along the currents of the near-stagnant water. Their faces are blind, noses high, and I hate them and I pity them and I fear becoming like them, losing that which has always been me, that which fundamentally makes me happy and makes me something other than what they are.
The eyes that flicker from under perfectly messy hair do not like me. Some days I feel the stares so hard they make my shoulders tense and my hands clench, some days I feel stronger than them, some days I feel so fucking surrounded I stupidly, reflexively look
