There are myriad ways to avoid completing a project, and one of them is to become the eternal student. Always learning, always improving, so that future hypothetical story keeps getting better and better... While somehow never making its way into reality.
But on the other hand, it might help to know a bit about swimming before jumping overboard. So where do you draw the line? What do you absolutely need to know before getting your feet wet with a story?
I can't speak for anyone else. But when I started Dreamkeepers, I didn't know jack about story.
I didn't know about inciting events, verisimilitude, thematic armature, pinch points, none of it.
Quite simply, I did not know what the hell I was doing. Which makes for an interesting question about my first books.
Why don't they suck?
Professional reviewers have said "the writing was absolutely golden," that they were "completely blown awa
The Game Behind a Good StoryPrevious articles revealed tricks to snag reader interest- but what keeps that spark alive? The Game Behind a Good Story1 year ago in Personal More Like This
When a promising concept with sparkling characters goes soggy midway through the story, when readers leave in disgust, what exactly is happening? How can wildly fantastical movies with spaceships, dragons, and magic be considered perfectly plausible, only to be condemned as 'unrealistic' over the most mundane of details?
For the answer we're putting down Finnigan's Wake and picking up Super Metroid. Because there's something necessarily inherent to games that reveals the secret of a satisfying story.
There are plenty of things that might ruin a game- but violate this one sacred principle, and you can make the experience universally detested by players.
Games require rules.
Now, a quick aside: In various circles that's a hotly contested assertion. Some are quick to declare that 'game' means anything anyone wants, and definitions somehow suppress creative expr

The United States Congress is proposing two laws that address the problem of wide-scale unlicensed distribution on the Internet of motion pictures, songs, trademarked goods, and patented pharmaceuticals.
One of the proposals is called SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and would direct search engines in the United States to block Internet sites outside the United States that are primarily engaged in distributing unlicensed content.Another proposal called PIPA (Protect IP Act) would block websites located in the United States as well. The Obama administration is putting a stop to these proposals. It wants the Internet companies and the content companies to get together and come up with more functional and less destructive solutions.

And then the lover, Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad Made to his mistress' eyebrow.

what i'd like to do is "host" a big ol' collab picture that includes a lot of artists. this will give artists exposure to others and vice versa, from their point of view. also, it is fun!!
what i am planning to do is make a template sheet and paste pictures you guys send to me onto it, hence me acting as a "host". to give you some ideas, i'll start to explain what i would like to do. this will be a large picture that looks like a "select your fighter" screen, like this:
that is the basic idea, but i would like to add a few things. first off, there will be enough space for you to show more than your character's head. let's say...
----> MAKE YOUR PICTURE 250 PIXELS WIDE (horizontal) AND 300 PIXELS HIGH (vertical).
under that, i will add your character's name
under their name, i will add a catchy sorta nickname for them, specific to th

The chaptered comic strip, has been collected into a 100-page graphic novel – and to the still-uninitiated:
It is not quite like anything you’ve probably ever seen before. The story follows “Zee Captain” and his sidekicks as they amble through a post-apocalyptic landscape. And while that hardly seems new and different, it’s the unusually superlative graphic quality of the comic cells and the Monty Pythonesque dialogues and leaps of logic that can become quite mesmerizing. Zee Captain, his face hidden by a gas mask that gives him a Darth Vaderish look, wears what looks like a Soviet Red Army uniform from WWII, and the strip does have nourish WWII feel. It’s as if the nuclear holocaust on Hiroshima and Nagasaki had never ended and spread to every major city on Earth. But

Hot Topic selling artist's works without permission
A Tumblr post has been circulating, where Hot Topic is selling artist's works as T-shirts in their store, including popular fan art without the artist's permission, deviant artists included. It caught on wildfire when one user linked to deviantART's Submission Policy, stating users gave permission to dA by agreeing to their Terms of Service thereby allowing dA to sell it to third party royalty free.
This is false and inaccurate!

'Thank heavens you’re here!” exclaimed 17 year old Rob, the clerk at the little corner convenience store. Detective Brown had come in to avoid the rain and get a coffee.
The little store was warm and cozy despite the driving rain outside, and I was pleased to note that Robbie was obviously doing a good job of keeping the place neat and tidy. The floor was spotless, and all the shelves were neatly arranged.
“What’s wrong, Rob?” Brown asked.
“You just missed them!” the young boy told him. “Two men just burst into here, held a gun on me and demanded all the money in the register. Mr. Loan says if that happens, we should just give it over, so I did, but as soon as they were gone, I ran outside to see if I could get their license number, or at least see the car they were driving.&

Hints and Tips for GREAT Papercraft (again)I often get asked "How did I make ________ (insert Paperpoké model)?". I would have to say that it is pretty much practice and patience. I've been papercrafting for about 5 years, now - more so in the last 12 months than at any other point in time. And I really believe that you learn from making mistakes.Hints and Tips for GREAT Papercraft (again)6 years ago in Personal More Like This
I often rebuild models 2-3 times, just so the are just right for publishing on our website. It's relatively easy to make a template from a model, but it's not so easy to make a good template that others can follow with ease, and that doesn't waste too much paper.
But making a good model is not simply about the work that papercrafter designers do, you also need the correct tools to create a good papercraft. This is a fact that is often overlooked, but is actually crucial. You really only need a few things to get great results:
1. Use decent paper - (NOT regular 80gsm printer paper) find some that is about 120gsm in

Deviantart is a big place with an eclectic bunch of people. I'm curious as to what some of my foreign friends have to say about the subject.
My stance As a 24 year old American, this will be my second election that I'll be taking part in. In 2008 I voted for Barrack Obama, based on what the republican party has presented for this election, I'll be doing it again this election. When I look at the candidates its a no brainer for me. A lot of people really don't like Obama, for what ever their reasons are. I think people don't have an objective perspective on things when it comes to the president. He's one man, a lot of what happens in the country doesn't happen as a result of him specifically. Often times its congress's actions that dictate the change and outcome of things here at home. As I ex
Greetings and ThoughtsHello! My name is Hound, and I enjoy creativity. Let me tell you about myself for a bit. I have always loved art in all of it's forms. I used to draw concept art and take photos, but now I write music and poems. I play many instruments and I am currently working on an ambient project. At the time of this entry, I am 18 and striving to become an electronics engineer. Hopefully I will design technology to keep humanity moving forward, and the minds of people always active. We will not continue to progress if we do not ask questions, never searching for the deeper meaning of things.Greetings and Thoughts4 years ago in Personal More Like This
My journal entries will be written like a personal blog into my journey, a journey to find art that truely shows humanity, life, universe, and the depictions into a persons day-to-day world.
As my first entry, I must ask myself a basic question. What is art? For me, it is the expression of our inner-self. Everything we have gone through, everything we see and hear, and everybody that we connect with. Somehow a

Ubisoft did an amazing work and game looks awesome.
I'm waiting for this new program called Archive_X to be updated to support AC4.
In meantime I'm trying to extract it with Ninja ripper but it won't be as good as ones from Archive_X.
So please be patient As soon as I get him I'll convert him for XNALara
I'm pretty busy with faculty and exams so I don't release new models often :\
BTW I'm rigging Charles Lee atm and he's half finished so expect him as well.
For AC4 I'm planing to convert Edward first than Anne Bonny

This is why you (and your art) get ignored.People often get the sense of being ignored in the art-scene, especially here online. Sometimes you just want to socialize with other artists you admire and you seem to be talking into a brick wall or perhaps you've send your portfolio to a company over a dozen times and still don't even seem to get the smallest response or feedback. I will try and tell you WHY you get ignored and HOW you can get noticed instead.
I will go through the following cases of being ignored:
Do know, that even though being ignored feels very personal it's hardly ever personal at all!
Your comment(s) gets ignored.
It happens ever so often. You notice an artwork or a discussion and you weigh in with your opinion or admiration, perhaps even some feedback? T
