I've been wanting to finish this for months and months. :)

Riven, my wendigo OC, displaying the classical art form of the vanitas. His pose is referenced from one of my favourites in the genre: Franz Hals' Young Man Holding A Skull.

The flowers are white daisies: the leaves, varigated ivy: the fruit, a pomegranete. Watercolours and Prisma pencil on fine grain watercolour paper.

This was painted for my mom! Her birthday was October 23rd and this is her present from me! I remember when I was about 16 years old and I used to write music all the time she asked me to write her a song about hating Mondays lol and I never did it. Well, I don't write music anymore or even sing I just paint so this is for her to make up for the song! :glomp: Happy LATE Birthday mom!!! I love you!

Oh my GOD.

Please excuse the language, but.... FUCKING FINALLY, OH MY GOD.

This is, literally a year and a month late. I cannot believe it. Godith, oh God, I am so so so sorry. But I hope you like it. I worked really hard on it and it didn't fit on my scanner so I had to take a picture. It's like... a foot and a half tall? And yes, the muzzle's not supposed to be pink, there's more brown on her knees, her bangs are too long, the anatomy sucks, I know, I know. I made a lot of mistakes. But I honestly did my best. I really, really hope you like it, Godith. BTW, my camera kinda effed up the detail shot of the claws and tail so it's all blurry, so it looks way cooler in person.

Anyway, I'll be drawing more now that this is finished (because I was working on so many versions of this that I ended up hating for the past year) and hopefully I'll have a reference sheet up by next month. Don't count on it though, because I start freshman year in high school tomorrow.

This is marker and white acrylic paint backed on cardboard washed (horribly) in black ink with four silver rhinestones for glam. :3 It's much more spectacular in person, trust me.

Art :iconrainbowofwhite: (that's me!)

PS, the title was the first word I thought of when I first clicked on the link to *AlphaGodith's Andurian species reference sheet and saw those massive claws.

Back in the beautiful days of the old
A lupe found a wonderous cage made of gold.
Leaning back on his haunches, the bewildered beast saw
A giant green hummingbird, which he ogled in awe.
Never before had he seen any creature so bright
His interest was immediately sparked into light.
He rolled out his tongue, and twisted his head
As the green flying creature turned 'round and said
"Oh noble lupe, so keen and so quick
I was trapped in this cage by a terrible trick.
Could you do for me, a favor so small
It would hardly take you any effort at all?"
The lupe perked his ears, awaiting its direction
Eager to help it with any question.
"If you could free me, by the breaking the golden chain teather
I would give unto you some of my dazzling green feathers."
Quickly excepting the request of the one who was trapped
He leap, claws outstretched, getting the golden chains snapped.
Down fell the cage, and the hummingbird too
Which broke, releasing the bird to fly into the blue.
As it fled to the sky, it let float down what it had owed
Where the lupe stretched out his snout to catch all the load.
But soon hunters came running through the trees to the scene
To find they no longer had captive a hummingbird green.
But they saw the lupe, with green down on his jaw
And that was the last of the lupes anyone ever saw.

----

Well, there's my poem! XD Kinda' sad, huh? Weeelllll, I bet you've got a few questions! So I'd like to clear some things up!

Lupes; In here, it is the name for the species that strange wolf creature is............ I dunno, it was one syllable and that was the best choice for the poem~ XD;

Giant Green Hummingbirds; Back then, it was said Giant Green Hummingbirds were good luck, and brought great fortune. However, if you caught one, the luck would vanish. But a cage of gold would preserve the luck.

Poem, Explained; So yeah, a Giant Green Hummingbird was captured by a hunter, and he was so excited he wanted to call over the other hunters. He didn't bring it with him because the gold was incredibly heavy, and he also wanted his other hunter pals to help him carry it. But then a foolish lupe came along, and was amazed by the glorious green birdy, and because he immediately liked the pretty thing, the bird got him to free 'em. Theeen, the hunters came back, thought the lupe ate the bird and, well.... you know.... > n >; ............................................................................................................................. I'm a terrible person, aren't I? 8D

----

Weeeelll, so yeah! Spent quite a few hours on this, watching various movies with and without the family. I'd have to say I'm sort of disappointed with the final outcome, but I like how the lupe turned out~ ^ u ^

What d'you think?

Another art challenge by :icondaekazu:, :iconmidnighttea7:, :iconvinegar: and :iconmaudt:!

For each challenge we interchangeably give ourselves an idea or topic to illustrate and a short, specified time to execute it in whatever shape or form... of course, without knowing what the others are going to come up with.

This week's topic is MidnightTea7's idea: "Chimeras - draw a fantastical creature made of more than one real species."

===

This one should be titled "what the hell am I painting" actually.. Anyway, I only had time for something really simple, hence the semi-lion lady, who tries to look more enigmatic than animal..ish. Inspired by greek mithology in a way, and also by a popular meaning of the word 'chimera' - "to describe anything perceived as wildly imaginative or implausible".

So there you go, a wildly implausible sort-of a lion lady with a wildly imaginative sort-of a metallic, liquid not-a-helm-thingy on her head :D

A quickie, more or less. Had no time for something bigger, but it still took a bit too long. Photoshop CS5. Some minor refs used, mostly to get the shape of the lion nose right.

===

Others! :heart:

Tis a merry Christmas present fora friend of mine, though she'd prefer the GIANT box of goldfish to the drawing XD

Anyways, she's *always* carrying a box of Goldfish Crackers so that's where this comes from :3

oh and apparently, the clothes style, hair and dorkish smile look like her XD
