SORRY IT'S TAKING SO LONG!! USPS raised their rates for people outside the US and I have to make sure I have shipping for everyone in one action. Thank you everyone for your patience. I love you all. (it's true)
I wasn't able to get rid of these books as easily as I was thinking...so I still have them.
I'm running low on the couples books but I still have plenty of the rest.
I'm open back up and would really like to sell them all. Please! 8D
They're super useful and I really want to see people use them. So stop by the store!
The USPS did away with surface to air shipping overseas. That means I, unfortunately, have to charge an additional $40+ to anyone outside of the US (except for Canada, I think). So be aware of that.
How is everyone doing, btw? ...school started and everything else!

Sans serif — Italics & weights
In the previous article of the typography series I presented some of the basic principles of type design and we started designing a geometric sans typeface such as Futura. In this article we will expand that typeface and add italics and alternate weights. Or rather, I will show you how to design italics and briefly present how you can modify your regular weight typeface to create alternate weights rather than having to re-draw the whole letter.

CritStop 03 - Art school vs self teaching?Greetings Concepteez!CritStop 03 - Art school vs self teaching?2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Apologies for missing out on the CritStop last week. I was at a weekend long concept-design workshop which didn't leave me with much time to do a post.
I might run down some of the things we did in the workshop in a future post, but this week I thought I would do something a little bit different. I have been getting quite a few queries over the last few weeks about making the choice between formal training courses such as university or college over that of self-teaching and using online resources and short courses. One of these was Nyte-Tyme who wrote:
"I mentioned before that I am currently attending a school called ------- University. So far, my first semester of a Junior year here has been bad. Art history classes (which I think are somewhat necessary) a Physics of Light and Color class. A web design class and a video and audio class which was essentially a film class after awhile. But I've been recently looking into C

On December, a friend of mine, musher known as a legend, the great mentor to me has passed away, I traveled up to the mountains and went on mushing alone (skijoring: cross-country skiing + sled dog, it looks like that: http://i.pinger.pl/pgr221/0fa2234e000267884b460f96/justyna_kowalczyk_10.jpg but with a dog pulling you) with my leader Arnaq. Instead spending Christmas at cozy places, I've been very hardly training cross-country skiing (skate style) alone and with my dog as well. On that month I've been doing negatively physically as well mentally, especially that feeling of emptiness after losing someone where you will never see this person again- sport was absolutely to best thing to help myself to overthink many things and make me to stand on feet properly.
But other than sport by itself I did but that trip was kind of my personal memorial for that musher who passed away. In his name I went on mushing. For
Why it's so important to unite as artists. We are with many though yet we are with few. We're all divided over little subgroups such as, fantasy illustrators, concept artists, comic book pencilers, photomanipers, techartists, anime drawers, realism sketchers etc. You might even find your place at multiple sections. Why it's so important to unite as artists.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I found that the biggest united groups on Deviant Art are mostly evolved around fan art, such as Sonic, or My little pony.
Observations aside, I think the good thing about those groups is that they serve for companionship. Being an artist all by yourself with no one to share/talk about/discuss your work with can feel rather lonely. And that lonely feeling is not encouraging at all. Most of us keep a lot of things taboo as well, like techniques or rates. If we were more openly with these the changes of being underpaid or missing out on a job because someone else does it for hardly any money at all will grow slimmer. People should know what they are worth and not be afraid to ask for it.

Winners to be announced on 01 Feb!Important updates:Winners to be announced on 01 Feb!9 months ago in Personal More Like This
The contest is over! I'll announce the winners on 01 Feb.
Three days, okay? You guys get 3 more days to complete your contest entries. owo;
That means that if you have applied for an extension, you haven until 18 Jan at 1159pm Pacific Time to complete your entry. There will be no further extensions beyond that point!
This will be the only announcement. (Bonus points if you got the reference.)
The contest is ending soon! Don't forget that you can have a one-week extension if you show me a WIP by 08 Jan '15 at 1159pm Pacific Time.
Since I'm doing a blanketed contest extension, I'd still really like everyone to be done by the 15th (mostly referring to those I've given the extensions to already), but I might be able to extend that by one more week, so if you need it, come talk to me. (I'm not a mean person, usually. ) Which brings me to my next point, any stragglers can now request a one-week extension by the 8th of Ja
My deviantART StoryHappy birthday dA!!My deviantART Story1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I read the invitation to write up our individual dA stories, and I knew I couldn't decline. dA has been a pretty big part of my life, and I really cherish this community.
Officially I've been on dA for 11 years now, but truth be told I didn't use it at all in the first years (I thought the website looked horrible complicated and intimidating compared to my trusty Elfwood gallery which I had since 2001, it still exist btw: http://www.elfwood.com/~elsakroese ). I made only 6 uploads on dA in 2005 and 2004 combined. After that the site slowly started growing on me. I think this happened simultaneously with the fantasy police (ERB) at Elfwood and slow approval becoming more of a problem. My friends started moving over to dA one by one, and I followed (anyone who was active on Elfwood will know what I'm talking about... and know how old I am XD).
I've cleared up my dA gallery a number of times throughout the years, but these are some of the oldest submissions still in my
How to cope with Art BlocksAlmost every single artist has at one point or the other in their life lost motivation, inspiration or even both and without the knowledge of how to deal with what we then call an Art Block, it can take a long time to overcome this lack of artistic drive. A time that might otherwise be used for further improvement and personal artistic growth. How to cope with Art Blocks3 years ago in Personal More Like This
So today I would like to give you a few tips on how to defeat an art block. There is no definite guarantee to either of them, as everybody experiences their blocking differently but maybe you can at least find small suggestions that will eventually help.
Inspiration is literally everywhere, you just need to open your eyes to see it.
We can find inspiration through:
Letting your favourite books, movies, series or games inspire you is always one of the most obvious ways. Fan Art is a good way to retrieve inspiration because most of all y

Sans serif — Roman
In this article/tutorial I will show you how to design a typeface. I will cover the basics and show you how to design advanced letters as well. There is so much I can talk about though, so if people like this article I might expand on this with future articles and get more into detail. I will only cover the design though, so you will have to research how to do the spacing and programming and turn your typeface into a usable font—or wait until I might do an article on that as well, but I don’t have such an article planned anytime soon.
What will we design?
I will first show you how to design some basic letters for a geometric sans typeface like Futura, because it utilizes geometric shapes, which is always my starting point for every typeface regardless of style. O
Canon 5DMk2 in the lake...Last month I was out shooting by a beautiful lake, all in winter spirit with ice along the shoreline. So, I decide I wanna get the more "low" shot and walked down to the surface. I gently place the tripod, with camera attached to of course, two legs on the ice and the third on solid ground. Checked it twice, it was sturdy and would be still. Yeah...
Composition is set and placing of the 10 stop filter for a long exposure, check. I stand up and look around, as the camera screams beautifully with it's open mirror, soaking up every glimpse of light around.
The shot is captured and I see it's being saved down the card. As I lean to pick up the camera I see the third leg slip from the rock and down between the ice and rock, where there wasn't a hole 2 minutes ago! Of course this ice wasn't solid, after all.... dumb idiot.. It gently moved back and f

It's a question we street painters get asked constantly. No lie, I get asked at least 10 times at every event I go to. The obvious answer is, the chalk washes away. The art work is here, and then it's gone. But why ask a question when the reply is obvious? Simple, they are looking for an emotional answer. One that conveys sorrow or empathy for losing the work you've literally spent hours on. Sometimes in extreme weather conditions and putting our bodies through hell.
I've thought a lot about this question and at first I didn't know how to reply to it. The anti-social and logical me wants to reply with: "What? Are you a dummy? It goes away!" However that's not the most polite answer.
After about the 100th time asked, I began to conjure up a short and simple reply to sum the question up into a nice neat bundle of knowledge. With a big ol grin and friendly disposi
