Bruce's Raging Cold [Bruce, Dick]"I'm going out on patrol," Batman growls.Bruce's Raging Cold [Bruce, Dick]3 years ago in General Fiction More Like This
The intended effect of Robin cowering in fear is lost as his words are punctuated by a coughing fit. (Never mind that Robin never actually cowers at anything Batman says. Sickness allows Bruce a measure of plausible deniability, if nothing else.)
"That's quite a cough you've got there, big guy." Dick's indulgent grin would be more appropriate as bestowed by guardian to ward rather than the reverse, not that Bruce ever smiles at anyone indulgently. "I bet Penguin's goons will be terrified."
"Indeed, Master Dick." Note to self: find a new, non-treacherous butler. One that won't ply him with herbal tonics that look like liquified death. Before that, however
"It's not too late for me to send you back to the circus, chum," Bruce threatens, downing the vile concoction in one go. He'd swear on the Batmobile that Alfred deliberately makes it taste that unpleasant.
Dick's eyes widen too much for it to be anything nearing a serious expressi

"Fish," says Dick, pointing. Bruce turns to see a stuffed clownfish, still attached to a price tag and apparently abandoned amongst the plethora of diapers.
Bruce takes it down and hands it to him. This nets him a bright smile, and
The first time Dick said this, earlier that day, Bruce thought it was referring to him. Considering he was wearing the Batsuit at the time, it was more than a little surreal. Mommy is a definite first as far as names the Batman has been called go.
"Mommy's not here, Dick." Bruce tries for a gentle tone, adding a pat on the little head for good measure.
It isn't enough, though: Dick frowns, and puts his hands up, clearly asking to be taken out of the cart. Perhaps it's better not to indulge him, but Bruce does so, anyway. Dick at this age is terribly small, fitting easily into Bruce's big, clumsy arms.

Author's Notes: Yes, I admit it: I stole the opening scene from Batman: Under the Red Hood. I also freely admit that the second scene has been transcribed and altered from the YJ Season 2 Episode: Summit. Thirdly, this story is the continuation of the Depths AU. In fact, it picks up less than 20 hours after the end of "Event Horizon". I suggest you read "Depths" then "Event Horizon" or none of this is going to make a lick of sense. Just FYI.
Thank you to the lovely, wonderful, patient Fiona who's been helping me through my writers block and telling me when my writing is crap. This update wasn't possible without her. Thanks Fiona!

My Father's Eyes
I watched him fall…
I always watched them, even when my mother insisted I was too young to participate. It was heart thrilling, seeing them fly about one another as if it were as easy and natural as breathing. They were stunning to watch!
He was the catcher. The first to step off the platform and fly in the slender bar stories above the netless ground. He was the strongest, the oldest, the one trusted to be there when the others released and left their very lives in his hands.
He was always there.
For her, for them, for me.
Always for me.
And so he was who I always watched when I wasn't flying.
And it was why, that night, I watched him fall.
I saw it in his eyes first. The rich chocolate eyes that were alight with love and joy as he did what he did best. He felt the wires buck, lifted his eyes to a spot above my head and I followed that gaze. I saw the moment when he saw and recognized the fate that would not be his alone.
He looked aw

"Are you feeling better, Twilight Sparkle?" the Princess of the night asked.
"A little bit, Princess, thank you," Twilight allowed, taking a long sip from her glass of water before softly setting it back on the table.
At a glance, it appeared little had changed in the appearance of the group in the twenty minutes since Princess Luna had finished relating Twilight's mishap from the night before. However, closer inspection would reveal an empty plate that once held a sandwich in front of Big Macintosh and bowls of salad ranging from partially eaten to just a few leaves remaining at Fluttershy, Rarity, and Luna's places. As for the others, they had opted for refills for their glasses of water, except for Pinkie, whose face remained submerged in her bowl. Twilight was convinced that the pink pony was somehow breathing through her ears.
"So who wants to go next and tell us their side of what happened last night?" Twilight asked.
"Ladies first," Macint

"Which one is it Sugarcube?" inquired Applejack looking through the window of the hospital's nursery.
Flim, who stood surround by the five mares, opened his mouth to reply but was instead cut short.
"Oh! Oh! I love guessing games!" Pinkie Pie chirped, her blue eyes scanning the room. "It is that little filly?" A small white unicorn filly stretched and yawned in her crib, red hair peaking out from beneath the blanket pink blanket.
"No," answered Flim grinning like a fool.
"Oh, well it is that one then?" Pinkie enthused, pointing out a blue unicorn colt with a white and blue mane.
"No," Flim said again.
"Okay, I got it for sure this time!" she said and looked thoughtfully at the foals before her.
After a minute of this Rainbow snapped, "Oh Flim would you just tell us already?!"
"Well only because you asked so nicely," he replied, going into the nursery and picking up one of the sleeping bundles. He walked back toward the eagerly awaiting group, the foal nestled sa

In the late hours of the night, a mighty thunderstorm raged outside the Carousel Boutique. Rarity, the store's sole proprietor, lied awake in her bed gazing at a picture of herself with a specific purple earth pony stallion with a green mane. Casually, she looked at the heart shaped frame next to it on her nightstand. A photograph of a small young green and purple dragon was held within it. 'Oh Spike, why do you always seem to be out of town when I need you the most.' She thought to herself.
The blue eyed unicorn mare quickly sat up in her bed when she heard the door to her bedroom slowly creek open. A white unicorn filly with green eyes and a curly purple and pink mane and tail, poked her head into the room.

Are you a spy?
The sun shined through the window, filling the little chamber with warm, playful colors. A distant bird was chirping happily, announcing the beginning of spring as the wind kindly caressed the tiny new-born leaves that were decorating the old apple trees.
The blue pegasus lazily opened her eyes, slowly looking around the room. The wooden walls reflected the orange light of the sunrise, as if they were quietly chanting to the rhythm of the clouds, slowly waking up along with the entire farm. A table with a small mirror was resting in a corner, along with a chair and a simple red chest. Rainbow looked at the white, transparent curtains that were swinging slowly, embracing the gentle breeze, as her gaze fell upon the orange pony that was lying next to her, still asleep.
She's so beautiful...
Rainbow let out a small sigh as she looked at her marefriend. It felt so good to finally be able to admit all these thoughts

The Apple family were swamped with ponies clamoring to buy the cider they had spent the past hour making. They wouldn't notice if she slipped away, no one would in this sea of ponies.
Twilight focused a picture of the, what had they called it? Super Speedy Cider Squeezy, in her mind and teleported. She found herself on the side of the road, next to a small cafe, several miles outside of Ponyville. Her eyes immediately picked out the bright red and white mane of one of the brothers.
"Hey!" she called out. The stallion turned around, it was the one without the mustache.
"We're leaving," he replied, "No need for any more trouble." He looked anxious.
"I don't want trouble, I want answers," said Twilight standing her ground.
"And what answers would those be little filly?" asked Flim.
"You're machine. I've never seen anything like it. How does it work? The mix of machinery and magic is amazing!"
A look of surprise crossed the stallion's face, then he smiled. "Well that's a lot of technical t

"Ah'm sorry, wha--?"
Applejack turned towards the blue pegasus. This was becoming slightly annoying.
"I uh... I said that you did a fine job.... today, I mean," replied Rainbow Dash. She quickly pointed at the nearest apple tree. "The apples, all gone. Ha! I never knew how you could get them all down... you know, with a single kick."
Applejack tilted her head to the right. This was surpassing annoying, sliding towards worrying.
"Are you sure you're okay, Rainbow? Y'all seem a bit…" She stopped mid-sentence, not really knowing how to continue.
"Okay? Pff, of course I'm okay! I was just... you know..." she said, ending her phrase with a wide, awkward smile. The pegasus shifted a bit, trying to arrange the bag she was carrying so it wouldn't fall off her back.
Applejack frowned a bit, but decided to ignore this altogether. She had plenty of chores to do today and she had no time for Rainbow's silly pranks or less-than-inspired jokes.

Like many other small towns in Equestria, most ponies taking residence in Ponyville know one another. For anypony living in such a town, knowing one pony means knowing nearly every other pony. However, it has been said that the only pony to know absolutely everypony else in town is the resident pink party pony, Pinkie Pie. It is extremely rare, therefore, for a resident of Ponyville, Pinkie Pie in particular, to see somepony they have yet to make the acquaintance of. The comradery and friendliness offered by the small town ensures that the citizens of the town will always know quickly whenever there is a new stranger in their midst, for it

The quill glided across the crisp parchment, leaving a bold line of ink in its wake. Under Twilight Sparkle's magical direction, more lines crisscrossed the parchment, dividing it into neat little boxes. Soon these boxes were filled in with cramped writing, and the rows and columns were labelled with dates and times. Twilight paused to survey her work. "A perfect schedule," she announced to the empty library. "And I even left room to plan next month's schedule this time!" All it lacked was a fitting title. Twilight leaned in close, concentrating.
"Gaaah!" Before it could even touch the parchment, the quill flew up and out of sight behind her. Twilight winced and put a hoof to her smarting eye. It had happened again: a sharp pain in her eye, followed by a flash of green light that left her blinded for a few moments. Such occurrences had been bothering her off and on ever since returning from the wedding yesterday. At first, she had written them off as the result of being overworked with

Twilight watched the little white starlike flowers swirl about in her cup of elderflower tea and sighed.
Rarity put down her own cup and looked at her in sudden concern from across the table. The two of them were sitting at their favourite table at the Dandelion Clock Café and enjoying a little afternoon tea together, but Rarity for some time now had noticed that Twilight, although moody at the best of times, was especially moody today for some reason.
"Darling!" she said. "That's the third time you've sighed in as many minutes! Now I know something is most definitely wrong."
Twilight lifted her face from observing the tea to look at her friend. The white-coated unicorn's eyes were regarding her with concern, but somehow Twilight didn't feel like talking to her.
"Oh Rarity. I'm fine, really," she said, and then straightaway her eyes dropped back down to the tea and its danci

Theoretical Dog GeneticsWhen I was a kid I can remember being confused by the logic of dog genetics presented in cartoons. When two different looking dogs had puppies, the boy puppies looked like the dad and the girl puppies looked like the mom. I can only guess that this lack of originality was an attempt to cash in on the new character's resemblance to an older character that had already won people over, but where's the fun in that? Being the animal nerd that I am, I resolved to give myself a way to design a realistic guide to prevent such blandness.Theoretical Dog Genetics4 years ago in Academic Essays More Like This
