Commissions - Open by SweetDuke Point Commissions - Open by SweetDuke Collaborations - Ask Me by SweetDuke

EDIT: I may be slightly less active until mid-ish september as I am going home. Hopefully I'll have lots more art to show, I'll try to keep up with messages on my phone and home internet, I just many be slower than usual :D

I am having a bit of a Batman attack at the moment.

Also I came joint first place in :iconsevslover6195: 's contest :faint: I am so honored!

If you can spare a moment of your time please read this OPERATION DONATION - FROM BAD TO WORSEWhile we are past the point of no return, we are having to give up most of our furniture to move and losing a lot of the things we have accumulated over time. We are trying to sale our bookshelves, reclining love seat, mechanics tool chest and tools, giving away a lot of my wolf stuff and books, losing our washer and dryer, refrigerator, desks and office chairs, TV, sold my PSP system and games and anything else we can make due without. We will have to leave with only what will fit in both Broncos (one towing the other) and in the trunk of my Police Car.
While we have received about $70 in donations; which has helped, it's no where near enough with the load of BS that has come down on us in the last 4-7 days. We won't be able to use a u-haul, and the white bronco (Dutchess) came back with a list of repairs totaling over $4,500. Just to get her where we -think- she'll survive the trip, will cost us almost $700. My shot was jacked up in price and we didn't know until we got there and wit
and see if you can help.

It's my partner's Grandfather's birthday today, so we're going to see him later :la:

I'm doing some cheap commissions if anyone is interested: Commissions!Currently Closed!
Point Commissions
I’d like some points for contests and to give to deviants that deserve it, so I thought I’d better try to work for them!
Please note or comment me if you would like one and say what you want :)
First come, first served, unless you would like to pay an extra 2 points to make sure it is completed by a certain date and time. I will let you know once the piece is finished, and I will request payment, then I will post the piece on DA once I have received the points. I will only ask for the points once it is finished. If you have any questions, please ask! :)
You can obviously do what you want with your commission and are free to use it outside of DA, (but just don’t claim that you drew it ^^; )
Recommending me to a friend is also rewarded, if you commission me and then a friend* of yours does to and they quote your name to me (you need to confirm this in a note) then they get 2 points of their commission and you get 2 points off a

I'm also going back to London on the 16th (YAH!) so I'll hopefully get lots more art done, though my interenet isn't great so I may take a while to get back to you. Hope you are all having a wonderful summer time!

Look at the amazing work! :faint:

Digital Collage

Journal Entry: Wed Aug 3, 2011, 11:46 PM
What do we mean by digital collage?
What’s the difference between a digital collage and a photomanipulation?

The basic definition of  Digital Collage is that it is a form of graphic art that uses virtual imagery and textures from different sources pieced and layered together (in a program such as Photoshop)  into one final assembled image. The difference between digital collage and photomanipulation is that in a digital collage the artist usually works to make it somewhat obvious that the finished image has been made by “pasting” different images together.

Digital collage tends to rely heavily on  traditional collage strategies such as ~
  • Chiasmage - consistent destruction of the primary motifs. The structures of various types of print, of music sheets, letters, geographic and star maps, chessboards or photographs are torn to little pieces and then put together again and glued to a base.
  • Confrontage - placing intact images next to each other, counting on hinting at some connections.
  • Crumblage - crumbling and deforming images, shifting, twisting and interrupting parts of the main motifs.
  • Montage - the technique of combining in a single composition pictorial elements from various sources, as parts of different photographs or fragments of printing, either to give the illusion that the elements belonged together originally or to allow each element to retain its separate identity as a means of adding interest or meaning to the composition.
  • Prolage - a method of creating vistas by inserting images into holes cut or torn in the base material.
  • Rollage - cutting up a picture reproduction into strips and then putting them together again according to previously laid down rules.

Digital collagistes often also use various digital techniques to make the finished product look like it is put together using traditional collage methods (illusions of taped or pasted paper, frayed or torn edges, the hint of 3D dimension in placement of different images, rough-cut edges, etc.).  Photomanipulators, on the other hand, tend to aim at an illusion of seamlessly blended and merged reality (albeit a strange and surreal one!).

Sounds simple, but in practice these distinctions can be confusing.
So here are some obvious examples of digital collage.

And here are some examples of work that could be classified more comfortably as photomanipulation, rather than as digital collage.  See if you agree?

I have uploaded the pictures of the main pattern pieces for the jacket to my scrapbook. Take a look if you are having troubles modifying your own pattern! (I couldn't find the pattern for the collar, I drew it on a piece of paper somewhere and I think it is gone now... sorry!)

I have had a lot of requests asking how I made the jacket for my cosplay, so I decided I would write a quick overview of what went into making it. I will not go into excruciating detail, but if you would like more help on any particular section, please leave a comment and I would be happy to elaborate!

STEP 1: Picking fabric
Print lots of good colored reference shots for yourself (or carry a smartphone with you) before heading to the fabric store. It goes without saying that you want to pick fabric with color that closely resembles your source, but it is also important to take into consideration things like the thickness and flexibility of your fabric. Conventions can get really hot really fast, so it is nice to have a fabric that is light and breathable, but I found that thin fabrics are also more challenging to work with. The inside lining for my jacket was very thin, which was great for keeping the costume cooler in the hot Arizona sun, but it had a tendency to bunch up little by little as I put it through the sewing machine. That made it difficult to align correctly with the fabric on the outside of the coat, which was considerably thicker.

So, select wisely!

STEP 2: Pick your pattern
For me, it is much easier to make a costume if I have a pattern to work off of. However, this is a challenge in cosplay because most character outfits are unique in some way, and an accurate pattern doesn't exist. This is where you have to use your imagination and find something that may not be perfect, but bears similarities to the look you are going for.

For my Bolin jacket (and for the Mako jacket worn by :iconredirectlightning:), I used this pattern. It is a pattern for a civil war costume that bears little resemblance to the outfits worn by Mako and Bolin, but there are some key features from the costume that led me to it.

First, the front of the blue jacket overlaps and connects in a way similar to Bolin's.
Second, the length of the jacket is similar to Bolin's.
Third, the jacket is gathered at the waist by a belt (and chord), much like Bolin's.

These characteristics gave me a good starting point to work from, and took a lot of the guesswork out of the problem in terms of fit and sizes. (There are lots of good tutorials online that explain how to use a pattern, so I won't be addressing that here.) Nevertheless, there are some major discrepancies between Bolin's outfit and the Civil War uniform. Which leads me to...

STEP 3: Modifying your pattern
From looking at the pictures, you can see some obvious differences between the pattern and the jacket we want. They are:

1. The collar on the pattern is short and flat.
2. The overlapping of the skirt on the pattern doesn't line up the same way as Bolin's.
3. The jacket top and skirt are separate pieces sewn together on the pattern, whereas on Bolin's they are one.
4. The back of the civil war jacket is designed to be fitted (it is made up of multiple pieces). Bolin's jacket is not fitted, and uses the sash around his waist like a belt to fit the waistline.
5. The shoulders of the civil war jacket are a bit more broad, and the sleeves longer (and for me wider) than needed for Bolin's jacket. (Remember, the sleeves on Bolin's jacket are rolled up, so you don't need a whole lot of excess.)
6. The pants are a completely different style on this pattern than what we are looking for (so I modified a simple pajama pant pattern, which I won't go into detail on here.)

With these considerations in mind, I changed the shape of the pattern as needed. A marker, scissors, paper, and tape are your friends here. Draw extra shape where it is needed, tape together pieces that should be connected, and use your reference pictures to figure out how everything should fit together. It helps to visualize how your new pieces will look by holding them up on your body. If you are fortunate enough to have a dress form the process is even easier. (I should really get one of those...)

It is too hard to describe exactly what changes I made to the pattern, so here are the pictures of the final pieces for the jacket!

Jacket Front: - Cut 2 of these
Jacket Back: - Cut on the fold to make 1 big piece for the back
Sleeves: - Cut 2 of these, obviously =P

I'm sorry I couldn't find my pattern piece for the collar, but if you have been able to make any sense of what I have said so far, you should be able to figure it out! I believe in you!

STEP 4: Sew it all together
I will not go into much detail here because my assumption is you know how to work a sewing machine and sew together pieces of a pattern. Again, there are lots of good tutorials for this online if you need help. Or even better, get someone experienced to teach you how this works (thank you Mom!).

Depending on your fabric, you may need interfacing to help the jacket keep its shape and not droop while it is on you. Keep this in mind before you sew everything up!

STEP 5: Add the details
Add the edging of the coat by cutting strips out of the same fabric used for the jacket lining and attaching where necessary. Alternatively, you can buy pre-pressed strips of fabric used for quilt edging (so long as the color matches). I did this for the edging on the under-shirt and it saved me some time.

Make the little rectangle dealies for closing the coat and connect them however you like - snaps, hooks, or even velcro work great.

STEP 6: The rest and enjoy
Put whatever finishing touches on that you think is appropriate. I am sure I forgot something and I know I didn't cover everything. I'm very sorry!

I hope this has helped you in some way, shape, or form! If you have more questions PLEASE feel free to ask and I would be happy to respond. Thanks!

December 3rd, for twenty-one years, has been International Day of People With Disabilities and every year strives to promote the understanding of a person with a disability. The day raises awareness to their rights, well-being, and even dignity. While this day may not be well known, the message of this very important day should not be forgotten or overlooked.

There is no difference between a person with a disability and a person without, they deserve equal treatment and equal consideration in all aspects of life.

"Equality is the soul of liberty; there is, in fact, no liberty without it." -Frances Wright

There are many groups here on deviantART who support and promote art made by people with disabilities:

And for the day I would like to feature some amazing deviants with disabilities (feel free to click links for more information on the disability):

MLP:FIM Style Pony Video tutorial Part 1

Journal Entry: Sat Aug 18, 2012, 4:09 PM
My Gallery My webcomic/manga My Tumblr My thanks to you all My Twitter

So I finally got around to fixing up the video.

If you decide to start drawing, keep in mind that your not going to be great at it when you first try. Believe me I couldn't draw ponies to save my life, but I keep at it and look at me now.

Don't give up, as long as you keep it up you'll soon be drawing ponies in no time. Also don't treat art as a chore, have fun with it.

Also use References to help you out, don't be ashamed to use them. Also check out this link for helpful pony anatomy sketches…

Also please read this journal
Some Tips For Young ArtistsSince Equestria Daily is doing their Artist Training Grounds and many young artists out there are starting to feel their oats, I thought it'd be a good time to get some of these thoughts out on the internet, for no other reason than to reference them when I'm asked about art advice later. If you're going to try a hoof at drawing, there is a wealth of information available to you out there. Instead, I'll try to make a note of some of the things that very few art tutorials seem to mention.
1) Almost anyone can draw - yes, even you. Anyone with full command of a hand or two can draw. When you start, your drawings will not be great, but they will satisfy you. Keep going. That stodgy old advice about the thousand bad drawings is true. We don't admire well-rounded artists for being prodigies; we admire the effort they've put into honing their craft. Don't expect to develop quickly; take your time and pace yourself. Anyone can draw, but only the patient and tenacious can draw really well.

It may be long but it will help you understand what every artist goes through, so your not alone.

My best tip for you is, never give up, attempt to draw something at least once a day, don't get discourage. You can do it, but you have to try first.

Happy Drawing, stay strong everypony/everybody.

This is for you DashieFan1(from and the rest of the people reading my little story.

So yeah the next chapter in "All that is Fair Part 1" has been taking some time to complete. I am going to tell you why, it has been taking so frakkin long.

I last updated the story back in December during my last winter break from college. By last I mean that as the last winter break of my undergraduate career. After that I focused on completing my senior thesis. That included completing my experiments and writing up the results, write a grant, and I also prepared three different presentations of my work. This took me to Graduation at the end of May.

I know I should have put my story on Hiatus but I was scared that I would lose some you. I didn't complete drop the story I would work on it here and there. Then I had a little bit of time before my family, friends and fiancee showed up so I reviewed what i had done in those five months. To make it short I didn't like what I had written for the next Chapter. So I spent the last month rewriting it all.

As it stands right now I have complete all rewrite for what I had done and it in a form I can agree with. It only leaves two final since until it is complete and then it is off to my editor so you all can read it easily.

Also my style of writing is a bit different. I don't just sit an type it all out on a computer in the first go. I write down the rough draft in a note book. Then I type it up make adjustments as I go. It take a bit longer for me to produce the works. It allows me to revisit my work so it can be the best it possible can be.

Also I worked on a few pieces of art work (as you can see her on DA) and I also got a bunch of ideas for stories, a tumblr, and something big (More on that later. Check my Deviantart for those updates).

One other thing. Life has been slapping me about. My family has been keeping me busy and so has the hunt for a job for last month.

Thanks for patients and readership. I hope to get it to my editor soon. It should be out to you by the turn of the month.

Thanks for reading my long winded rant. Now time to get back to work.
