Negativity in fandom, and the dreaded "thoughI was talking with a friend about how some fandoms are super fun to be a part of. And some...not so much. I regret to say, as much as I love Korra, it's not a particularly fun fandom for me. Neither was Avatar. (They're FAR from the only fandoms that suffer from the problems I'm going to be "talking" (word-vomiting) about, but they're the ones I've had the most experience with.)Negativity in fandom, and the dreaded "though2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Fandom has become a dirty word. I have literally been accused of participating in fandom. Wait, accused of what? For me, the whole idea of "fandom" can be summed up in one word: excitement. Man, I love getting excited about shit. And I LOVE talking to other people who are excited about shit! And then our excitement spirals around each other's and then we make awesome creations with that extreme excitement. EXCITEMENT-BENDING! This is what happens EVERY time I post a fanart, and I c

TypoTalks with *suqerWelcome to the TypoTalks interview series again! In the upcoming months I will be publishing interviews with various deviants active in the Typography community on dA. Though not entirely focused on Typography, we also talk about Design and Art, I hope to create more awareness for this tool and art formTypoTalks with *suqer2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Today I present an interview with suqer. The Sweden based designer joined deviantART 5 years ago and has since contribute to the Typography and Design galleries. His illustrations and logo designs take up graffiti stylistics as well as calligraphic appearances. Throughout his gallery you will find brilliant examples of custom lettering and type design.
You can follow his work on Flickr, the Behance Network or his website Martin Schmetzer (currently under construction).
9 reasons to adore OIL PAINT1. FORGIVING - Oil is, even today, still one of the easiest and most forgiving mediums you can work in. Creating an oil painting is in fact relatively easy compared to other mediums such as watercolor or pastels.9 reasons to adore OIL PAINT1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
2. EASY TO CONTROL - Oil paints are easy to put onto a canvas or panel. You just put some paint on your brush and rub it on the canvas or panel. The paint will generally not run or move.
3. SMOOTH BLENDING - Oil paints are king of the ring when blending colors together and creating subtle blends. Wet-on-wet is the sure fire way to get a smooth transition in your painting.
4. COLOR STABILITY - One great property of oil paints is that they don't change color when they dry as opposed, for example, to acrylics or watercolor. Oils stay pretty-much the same for a long period of time (however, in a very long period of time, oil paintings have tendency to yellow).
5. EASY TO REMAKE - It's simple, just scrape the paint off with a paint knife and repa

What is a Daily Deviation?
The Daily Deviation is a daily feature chosen from the galleries here on deviantART.
A small assortment of submissions are chosen each day by a select group of staff/volunteer members who wish to showcase an image which they found impressive or otherwise interesting enough to deserve being brought to the attention of the community-at-large.
The staff/volunteer members responsible for selecting submissions for the daily feature often are open to suggestions and individual community members may direct their attention by noting the appropriate Community Volunteer or staff member with a direct link to the deviation which you are suggesting and a brief description about why you think the work in question should be featured.

Lineart, Light, and Planning AheadJust a quickie today because I saw something that made me smile!Lineart, Light, and Planning Ahead2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I love it when artists post the lineart and then the finished piece. In the case of this drawing, the lines are charming and well-executed, but don't particularly give the impression of a finished piece. They are clearly one part of a considered process.
A lot of the time, lines are used as a description of exclusively form and the things that can be conveyed that way, composition, expression, etc. Then, when we color, we begin to consider things like mood and lighting. I've been thinking a lot about how to describe light with line while working on the recent ink drawings, and so I had a particular "squee" moment when I noticed this lovely spot of consideration in Hughes' drawing-
Look at the color version at the shadow behind Selina- the shape of it, and compare it to the line version. Despite there being very little detai

So I have been thinking of doing a few articles apart from feature articles to link some useful resources for artists and this is the first one of these. While this is a mini one, it's helped me a lot on several occassions.
Sometimes it gets confusing to decide which colours to choose. "'Should I go with a turquoise and a gold for the face? What about the room? I was going for a chic cool modern palette which is minimalistic!" Surely, a lot of us have gone through those decisive moments. Below are some colour scheme tools that would help you with your colour scheme choices. Click the titles or the links in asterisk to go to the following sites.

Rainmeter / Pileus Help, Set-up, & FAQSince I released the http://livinglightningrod.deviantart.com/art/P-I-L-E-U-S-Suite-148290753 (Pileus suite), many people have asked how to configure/edit/set up various parts. I am by no means an expert, and I'm sure there are a lot of smarter, better, more good-looking people who could answer these questions with brevity, wit, and savvy. I would recommend to all http://www.rainmeter.net/forum/index.php (the Rainmeter forums).Rainmeter / Pileus Help, Set-up, & FAQ4 years ago in Personal More Like This
But, if you're having trouble with getting Pileus to do what you want, I feel responsible to at least try to help. So the following are my attempts at answers to some common questions. Thanks for bearing with me, and I hope this helps someone!
First, some things you need to/might want to/possibly already know:
Rainmeter makes wide use of things called 'variables'. In the actual code, things like text size and color (which must be repeated a lot across all the skins) and personal info (like your computer's drive names, weather code, etc.) are easiest to ed

I am currently semi-active on dA so I apologize if I am not able to respond to your questions at the moment
Also, some parts of this guide is mostly for visual artists that do drawings
I have no experience in photography/other types of art so I apologize ^ ^;
This is not meant to be instructional, these are just some handy tips you can try out
Please do not copy/redistribute this guide, i worked really hard on it!
