As she entered the Gymnasium with Jul, she spotted the lieutenant and his group near the boxing ring. They were sparing with one another and the lieutenant was talking about how badly he would beat her, but stopped as she chuckled. "Wasting your energy already, lieutenant? I'd have thought you would try to save it as best you could before the fight." He whirled around to face her, his usual sneer on his face... "Well, look who it is, boys. We thought you were going to wimp out and forfeit." He said, laughing as he took his coat off and stepped into the boxing ring. "No I had some things I had to take care of first." She said, nodding to Jul who leapt into the ring as well. "Wait, why is he getting into the ring?" The lieutenant asked, with a waver in his voice that showed he was scared. "Turns out, Jul here wants to fight you, since you were the leader of the group who beat

Jasmine awoke from another blissfully dreamless slumber. She was quickly becoming accustomed to the relaxed life of the ship and the purple lighting of her room. She looked at her watched and sighed, it was well past the military's usual wake up time, but for once it didn't bother her. She was far too tired from the previous days' events to even care. She sat up in bed and let out a sharp breath as a pulled muscle bunched into a painful cramp. Over the past week, on their leisurely trip back to Sangheilios, Raki had insisted that she learn how to fight better in hand-to-hand combat, and would force her to fight him if necessary. At night, Jun, taught her how to speak Sangheili, which to her was a practical impossibility. So far she had only learned a few words like: hello, good morning, yes, no, thank you, and good-bye. It was a small vocabulary, but worth it now that she coul

Well hidden from the view of the Sangheili that were present, Cyran-204 watched as three Covenant seraphs landed on the platform, and a young woman stepped out with a group of sangheili. "Spectre reporting, package is down, repeat package has landed safely." He watched as the ambassador walked out the ship, and bowed to the arbiter. 'Who would show these creatures so much respect?' Cyran thought. Another Sangheili, a field marshal, walked up to her, and without warning, he drew his sword, as he did so, Cyran was up from his prone position, pistol raised ready to take the shot, but as he sliced, the ambassador rolled out the way. 'Damn, she's good,' Cyran thought as she stood up and turned to speak with another sangheli, as the filed marshal put away his black energy sword.
Cyran got back down, activating his helmets zoom. He suddenly picked up something on his motion tracker, and turned. Two buildin

You and I saved Reach, Six. We did it together. Our time together was short but you filled a hole in our squad no one really wanted filled. I'm glad you did in the end, and that's honesty. For me, the hole was a bit more than the sixth watch or point or guard. I can't really explain, I'm afraid, even if you deserve it. I'll try to be straight with you, but I'm a man of fe

Bridge of the Light of Truth
Ch 3: Aboard the Light of Truth
"This is Raki K'hanee, shipmaster of the Light of Truth." He announced, looking at the battered ships. The one closest to the pirate's ship looked to be in bad shape. Small fires were going where atmosphere and exposed components were. The UNSC prowler looked pretty bad too, with boarding ships attached at several points. Suddenly an image of a female kig-yar appeared on screen and squawked, "This is our ship! Go find your own!" He bared his teeth and growled at her. "No lower species orders me around. You are attacking an ambassadorial ship. Cease this attack at once, or I will destroy your ship." He threatened, glancing at weapons control. "Heat up the plasma turrets."
"You wouldn't dare!" She squalled, turning to someone off-screen and talking to them in their irritating squawks. "Shipmaster, the kig-yar has turned their weapons on us." He heard someone say. Calmly, he pointed at the

"But I don't see why we have to get a real tree," Jun said for the fifth time, dragging his feet in the snow. A normal human would have been bogged down by the eighteen inches of packed white flakes, but the Spartan-III moved easily, albeit reluctantly. "I mean, the folks back at Delta Base use their heads and go buy one from Uni-Mart. Where it's warm." He pulled the thick fur lining his white and gray park closer to his face to block the frigid wind. "And why are we walking when we could have just stolen a snowmobile?"
"Whiny sniper is whiny," Kat sighed. She had on a parka similar to Jun's, but hers had much more fur tacked on, and she wore a white balaclava over her face, with blue sunglasses to shield her eyes. Her boots were horrifyingly un-military, with little poofy furballs hanging on strings from the tops, just below her knees (they'll be much warmer than combat boots, she'd insisted to Carter when she picked them out at the mall in New Alexa

Noble Six's eyes narrowed as she scanned the path below for any threats. Seeing none, she jumped down from the rocky overhang, bits of shale and stone accompanying her in her descent. She landed with a grunt and broke into a sprint. It almost felt wrong, how tired she was; she'd lasted through battles much longer than this without getting weak, even on low rations and virtually no sleep. So why was she lagging now?
The answer was obvious to her. Losing the team had taken something from her, something she'd possessed when she came to Noble, but somehow let slip away in the past weeks. The first (and most likely the largest) chunk had been ripped out when Jorge threw her through the airlock of the Long Night of Solace and she had to watch as raw Slipspace whisked him away into oblivion, along with the despicable Covenant vessel's entire midsection. Dr. Halsey took a deep breath and looked into her daughter's face, the face that so resembled her own yet had obvious traces of Jacob's in it. "I'm sorry," she said calmly, holding back her emotions; years of carefully maintaining a professional mask made it easy, but it was hard at the same time. "Sorry for not being a better mother; sorry for never being there when you needed me; sorry for well, a lot of things." She crossed her arms, mirroring Miranda's posture, and sighed. Suddenly she felt old.
"You make it sound so easy, being sorry," Miranda remarked, neither condemning nor accepting the apology. "What does 'sorry' mean when you say it, anyway?"
Halsey was quiet for a moment, then looked away. "It means I'm ashamed of myself, really," she said softly. "What is all I've done worth when I can't even face my own daughter without feeling like a failure?"
Miranda blinked rapidly. She uncrossed her arms, shifted her weight, then took a s

The Spartan III was sitting, staring down at what remained of his original helmet the base model of the Mark V [B]. With a massive crack in the visor, and several deep puncture holes, it was all but useless, but even still the Spartan was hesitant to let it go. The Spartan then turned his attention to the rest of his torso armor sitting on an examination table as most of that armor too was scarred with several deep gashes and torn holes in both the metal alloy and the underlying gel layer. He sighed as he looked up and saw his new team leader step through the door.
"Commander Sir!" echoed the Spartan as he stood at attention.
The other Spartan stopped and gave a short laugh, removing his Cobalt blue Close Quarters Combat helmet in the process. "Easy. Just call me Matt when we're not on duty." He then extended his hand and said, "Welcome to Marshal Team."
The other Spartan III shook his commanders hand and thought back to the entire mission that had brought him to this moment....

"I heard that, Lance Corporal. And it's Captain Dare," the woman in question sneered, pushing past the grinning ODST. She was taking everything in with a look that was part disbelief, part amusement.
"I thought Spartans and ODSTs have a relationship that's, well er, touchy, if I may say so," Six said quietly, standing by Kat, who was watching as Dare's squad made themselves at home.
"That's true, but there is an old saying that says 'the way to a man's heart is through his stomach.' I think that applies to ODSTs as well," Kat replied, and Six smiled slightly.

Then out from the field an elite did appear
The marines started to panic, stricken with fear
