I always loved how in Age of Empires you could have all 100 of your archers hit the one person.

This is a remake of this thing from YEARS back: hozzaah.deviantart.com/art/Its… suffice to say, ive improved a bit since then

Took me 2 days to complete, I drew it roughly 50 frames for the few seconds of animation. If you like it, see how I used it in a TV promotion spot. [link] I think the concept overall came out nice.

PUT IT IN HD!

Lo and behold, my first color animation!

This is in response a request made by :iconlamourdanimer: to have his character Odette transformed into a polyp. To make my comeback really special though, I decided to animate it. And what a task this was.

I must've spent four whole days working on this piece. I was working on getting the angles right, the anatomy to an acceptable level, and the shading too.

You wouldn't believe how much shading I put into this thing; and I bet you guys can't even see half of it. XD Oh well, it makes it look all the more complete. I hated shading mostly because of how many duplicate layers I made that had her arms shrinking and I had to shade them exactly by the by.

One problem I had during production was conceptualizing Odette's dress, because if I were to do this realistically, her dress would have obscured her as she shrunk down and then this would have become very complicated for me. So I opted out for the more magical solution and simply have the dress get sucked into her.

Finally came the lighting on the ground, the bubbles and the whirlwind. The effects on that whirlwind and the ground were both erratic and a bit hard to manage, since I don't know how to manipulate flash all that much yet.
The whirlwind jiggles madly because I was just too lazy to make that thing any smoother. Drawing all those lines moving inch by inch was a total pain for the WIP, so I didn't want to do it again.
The bubbles were the absolute last thing I did. I studied the Little Mermaid to see how they moved there, and they were surprisingly easy to pull off; just have them shrink and they're perfect.

So after this, I intend to work on more material as I go by. I could also make another transformation like this in the future as a commission, but it'd probably have to be a once a month thing since the amount of effort I put into this is astounding. So if you guys want something like this again, give me the request and I'll give it a shot.

Also, Odette represents a bit of a style change for my polyp designs. I've decided to try and make them look a little more cute this time around. I brightened up their green and decided to go easy on the creepy designs.

U P D A T E
To open the field to as many of you as might like to enter this contest, we wanted to clarify that it is not a requirement to devise intricately plotted, complex, detailed messages to Val. We love these kinds of messages (and the ones we have received so far are incredible, so keep them coming), but there is also room for messages that are shorter and more self contained. So to that end we are adding a third category to the contest: the Humorous / Quirky Short Form Category.

Entries in this category can be of any length (literally, no entry is too short), can be either a voicemail or a videomail, and should have some element of obvious humor/quirkiness/strangeness/oddity or some other aspect that places it firmly into the realm of Free Agent. Entries in this category DO NOT necessarily need to deal with Val's jobs (i.e. corporate spooks, intrigue, networks of shadowing characters, pop culture mysteries, etc.). These entries could just as easily deal with Val's library fines, a former girlfriend, his extensive collection of vintage Disney attraction posters, his love of blue dress shirts, absolutely anything. So jump in. We're extending the deadline by three days to account for this addition.

Remember:
- No entry is too short, too odd, and the subject can be literally anything.
- Call 754.444.1618 or send your file or link to val.dekker@gmail.com
- Be sure to let me, Jade, know who you are if that is not obvious from your entry.

DEADLINE: Wednesday, 21 December, 2011 - 23:59 PST

----------------

Hello, Cats!

No rest for the creative, as they say. (Somewhere.) Hot on the heels of Free Agent Contest 2 it is time for Free Agent Contest 3, and this one allows you to step right into Val's world.

As we've heard, Free Agent follows the exploits of Val Dekker, an independent contractor with a diverse skill set and a knack for getting involved in odd assignments. Val is a busy guy and he often communicates with his network of clients, comrades and other contacts via voicemail and videomail. So here is your chance to actually BE one of Val's clients, comrades, or other contacts.

THE CONTEST
Simply call Val and leave him a voicemail message. Or, if you are more visually inclined, record a video message.

The content of the message can be anything you like, but the more interesting (strange, intriguing, mysterious, humorous, etc.) the better. The content should relate in some way to the world of Free Agent (which is a world of corporate spies, mysterious pop-culture artifacts, shady and/or strange characters, free-running couriers, sultry dames and tough mercs (or vice versa), etc. - so, really, the sky's the limit). You can create a character or you can be yourself.

Additional Fun: There is a real possibility that your entry could influence the course of the Free Agent project along with the actions of real people in the real world. For example, if you leave a message as a potential client asking Val to try to find the missing Warhol print of a Stormtrooper sitting in a hot tub with Marilyn Monroe, Val just may try to find it.

Judging will be based on creativity, cleverness, complexity (i.e. cool details) and coherence (i.e. does it fit into the world of Free Agent).

DETAILS
- Val's phone number is: 754.444.1618
- If you'd rather not call a long distance number, just record your voicemail message as an audio file and email it to val.dekker@gmail.com
- If you are entering the videomail portion of the contest you can either send your file to val.dekker@gmail.com (up to 10MB), use a service like YouSendIt, or post it to your favorite site and then send us the link.
- You can enter as many messages as you like.
- You can enter multiple messages as different characters, as long as you differentiate the characters.
- If you enter as a character, you will also want to send me a note or leave a comment that associates your dA street name to your character's name. B-)
