So you want to make a ponyI get asked alot of questions on how to make pony plushes. I really don't think I'm the best person to ask since I'm a total noob, but I will try to help! First off, you need a pattern. I don't sell or give out my pattern, but there are plenty of nice ones online! All it takes is a bit of searching but I'm going to make that part easy for you.

So you want to digitizeIn this tutorial I'm going to attempt to explain how to autodigitize images into embroidery files. There are many different software programs out there. Here is a link to some free software called Stitch Era: http://www.imprimeo.net/howget.htmSo you want to digitize3 years ago in Personal More Like This
In this tutorial I'll be showing you how to digitize using PE Design Lite!
This software is best used in conjunction with an image editing program like Adobe Photoshop. I've found that PE Design Lite is quite finicky with colors so you need a high quality vector image of the design you want to digitize.
So the first thing you need to do is find or create your design. Once you have a good quality image open your software.
Note: PE Design Lite has only the most basic of functions. For more embroidery options you'll need to buy/download more advanced digitizing programs.
Step 1: Open software
Step 2: Import your image
This is the file I want to digitize:
Step 3: Click the autodigitize button and the color grid will pop up.

Pony ResourcesI'm routinely updating this post with new resources that people send me. So feel free to send me links to tutorials or other informational posts/deviations/links that you think might be helpful to plushy makers!Pony Resources2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've been putting together a new list of pony resources over the last few weeks. It's been a while since I did the first journal post on the topic and unfortunately a lot of the original links went dead when BabyLondonStar deactivated her account. I also wanted to include some links for other non-eye and mark related things that I've found over the time I've been on deviantART.
There's a really cool tutorial by BeeZee-Art for making spiral plushie horns that I thought folks might like to see for their unicorns. I think you could also apply it to plushies where the horn is sewn in already, getting your needle in there might be a little harder though.
Once you've finished sewing your pony you may want to take

When you make your gusset pattern, leave a little hole where you want the horn to be.
Pin the horn to the gusset hole. They should be the same length.
Now match the back of the horn together and pin.
Sew from the end of the gusset to the tip of the horn.
Now you have a horn that's machine stitched to the gusset!

Tutorial: How to machine stitch heads onto bodiesTutorial time! This is another basic tutorial that will show you how to machine stitch a plush's head onto its body. Please be aware that I can't teach anyone how to make patterns. I'm just putting together a few tips and tricks that will hopefully help someone.Tutorial: How to machine stitch heads onto bodies11 months ago in Personal More Like This
Sew your plush's body together, leaving the entire back open.
Sew your plush's head together, also leaving the back open.
Match the head to the body and pin. When making your pattern, make sure the circumference of the opening at the bottom of the head is equal to the circumference of the neck opening of the plush body.
Sew a straight line from one end to the other.
The plush's head is now attached!
You should now have a plush with the entire back open! All you have to do now is finish it!

Want to join PMD-E? Go ahead! Anyone can join at any time, regardless of current skill level, interest level, intended participation level, or language. Anyone! Any time!
I just joined PMD-E:
Now that you’ve joined PMD-E, welcome! What should you do aside from reading the FAQ? You should decide whether or not you’d like to participate via art or writing, as each one requires you to fill out a different application.
The art application is here, and the writing application is here. You would do well to use a program a bit more advanced than MSPaint to edit the art application, such as GIMP, Photoshop, Paint Tool SAI, etc.
Filling out an application:
Now that you’re about to make your application, be it writing or art, you need to decide on a

Also, keep checking back, as more characters and their colors will be added soon!)
MLP: Minky Color Guide:
Which minky color works best for ______ (insert MLP character here)?
This journal is an attempt to answer that question. There are more than 50 shades of minky out there, and as a plushie maker, I realize that it can be difficult to know which color will work best for the particular pony you're working on. This is made even more frustrating by the fact that many of the images of the minky do not show the true color!
I recently ordered a ton of swatches from fabric.com, and I'm continuing to collect swatches from various websites, in an attempt to get most of the minky colors. Because I have the actual fabric with me, I can compare it to the characters' colors to see which fits best, to ensure that you can make a plushie that is as show-accurate as possib

MLP Resource: Pony Plushie Shopping ListHi everyone! As the winner of my poll, I've decided to make a journal consisting of a plushie shopping list!MLP Resource: Pony Plushie Shopping List2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Now, I've tried to include the average prices for everything, but keep in mind that prices will vary, especially with fabric because it depends on how many yards you get! But I've tried to give you just a general idea...
Also, you'll notice that there are multiple sections for putting the eyes and cutie marks on the pony. You only need to choose one section (hand embroidery, machine embroidery, or applique) depending on your personal preference.
Rotary Cutter $11.00
Cutting Mat $13.00
Sewing Machine $100.00
Fabric Markers (assorted color pack) $6.50
Hand Sewing Needles $2.00
Note: I like to have an assortment of fabric marker colors because I use different color fabric, and some markers don't show up on particular fabric colors. My general rule is, use the lightest fab
You want to make plushies? Tips and resources listEdit: added a part about fabric selection before 'where do I start'!You want to make plushies? Tips and resources list2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Ever since I posted Wolf Link and Midna I've been getting an influx of messages asking me to teach, reveal my secrets, take people under my wing, and so on. The sad thing is I can't spend all that much time one on one with everybody asking me to teach them. So I've decided to put together this massive block of text, relating some of my personal experience in plush making and listing off all my resources at the bottom. This will cover the very basics of plush and pattern making so if you are completely new to plush making this is for you, if you're not and you're just looking for resources skip to the bottom. I hope this will be helpful to someone!
First off, the reality. The big secret. The key to becoming a good plush artist is...
I can already feel the glares and exasperation but hear me out first.
One thing I've noticed with a lot of the messages I got were that a lot of people were scared of screwing up.
