Four thousand words.
All prompts are live
Here's what's gonna happen. I will list four prompts, one for each week of this month. Once a new week starts, the prompt for that week will be posted. Since I've been rather word-count heavy lately, we're taking it back to Flash Fiction. Because the prompts are going to be fairly simple compared to the past, I will be attaching a difficulty to each one, mostly to help you avoid leaping toward to most obvious initial ideas. Read on...
MAKE SURE YOU FAVE THIS JOURNAL AND WATCH FOR THE WEEKLY UPDATES!
April 3-8: A character does not want to go home.
Difficulty -- there's no abuse waiting for them when they get there.
April 9-15: Something they believed in their whole life has been a lie.
Difficulty -- no religion allowed.

So consider the following five elements:
1. an Elvis sighting
2. a Picasso
5. two dollars
Your mission, should you choose to accept it:
Write 2500+ words about a bucket list adventure that does not end the way the main character imagined while working ALL FIVE of the above elements into the story. They don't have to be in order. Think outside the box, get the ideas first before you start writing. Surprise me with how you choose to use them. You found chopsticks WHERE?!? omg
What's a bucket list? A list of things you want to do before you die/"kick the bucket".
1. the location must be in a small town
2. must be in 1st person POV
3. the main char

Is the United States a Christian nation? It's July 4th and I felt I had to do something special for today. I was thinking to do artwork for about a month before, but wasn't sure how to present it properly. One drawing or several drawings. Maybe a collage. Then I thought a journal entry would be more effective. They seem to get more views anyways. Is the United States a Christian nation?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
As I read through U.S. history and it's culture and understand them the past few years, and have been going to Church, I have questioned the U.S. being a Christian nation like most Christians seem to think. That it was founded as one though the founding fathers and that they were Christians, though I have read from some people that most were really Deists. That Thomas Paine didn't approve of Christians and that Thomas Jefferson choose to remove sections of his Bible that told of Jesus divinity. And then there's the Treaty of Tripoli, which has the quote:
"The government of the United States is in no sense founded on the Christian religion." George Washington.
Please Pants Responsibly (Paper Notebooks FTW)Please Pants Responsibly (Paper Notebooks FTW)2 years ago in Personal More Like This
There are two ways to write a novel. Plotting (you make an outline, a plan, a roadmap if you will, and then you sit down and write it) and pantsing (you write "by the seat of your pants, throwing caution to the wind). So when I get asked if I'm a plotter or a pantser, I'm all like er, uh, hold on, let me? Pantser? I think? But I kind of, um, do planny things?
And it gets kind of awkward because in these inarticulate moments I have managed to confuse everyone including myself. And probably spilled a drink.
In recent discussions, however, I've had a bit of a revelation, silly as it is. I've realized that I -- like many writers -- am a plotter/pantser hybrid. And perhaps what I'm doing is something we could call Pantsing Responsibly. And, maybe, just maybe, I could share some of my responsible pantsing tips with other writers. Starting with paper notebooks.
Anyone can find a notebook. If there isn't alread

It's Friday the 13th and I am going to push my luck to see if any of you lovely people would consider sponsoring me for this? If people want to know whats in it for them besides warm fuzzies, I will accept challenges depending on the amount given etc (previous examples have included making me draw something, write you a poem or even someone donated £200 for me to dress up like superman!). Your support is very much appreciated!
I've not experienced it first hand, but like everyone I know people who have lost loved ones and the pain they've felt. I've seen friends loose mothers, fathers, uncles, aunts, grandparents- and even children. Its horrendous and hits too many people. My mother lost her best friend 11 years ago to a long drawn out fight that came back three times before finally winning, another truly inspira

If you've already read Death followed my father home, you heard the story, but I'll recount it again here.
Earlier this week there was a hit-and-run accident outside the Shoe Carnival my dad manages. The driver had already caused a highway accident and was trying to flee the cops. He hit a woman, knocked her forward, then hit her again, dragging her body all the way over to Target.
As you can see, that distance is nothing to sneeze at. My dad left his store to direct traffic around her body. One of his employees had CPR experience and went to the woman to see if he could help. From what I heard, he was sent home early, blood all over his clothes. She was 20 years old.
Yesterday, my dad got a call that a friend he's known since he was a bout 17 had died; my dad was asked to be one of the pallbearers. He was on the phone much of the day, contacting

'Will she tell me, that she love me, too? No. She is a Jedi. They are forbidden to love.' He thought.

"No" he whispered. "It can't end like this."
She stammered something together.
"I...I..."she couldn't end her sentences.
Her breathing was slow, until it completely exposed. He rested his forehead on hers.
"I love you, Ahsoka." He whispered. "I always have."
A tear rolled down his cheek and dripped onto the cheek of Ahsoka.

Urgent help neededHi, this is Mark, Phil Jackson's brother.Urgent help needed2 years ago in Personal More Like This
As some of you in the UK will have heard on the news these past two days, Phil has gone missing. No one has seen him since Wednesday last week and we are all extremely concerned for his wellbeing as he has never missed a family gathering, such as that over Easter.
More distressing is that the office complex he works out of was broken into on the evening of Wednesday 27th March, and there is a very real worry that those responsible may be involved in Phil's disappearance.
The police are of the mind that all of this may have something to do with Phil's online work, and that a cartoon or comic may have been motive for an unbalanced party to act against him.
CCTV in Phil's office captured a handful of images as the intruders entered from the service access: http://www.collectedcurios.com/CCVT_001.jpg http://www.collectedcurios.com/CCVT_002.jpg http://www.collectedcurios.com/CCVT_003.jpg

"Without empathy your characters can have no depth." ( WmCutterBlack )
Things usually happen for a reason, rarely arbitrarily.
Likewise, as with real life, fiction requires actions, reactions; a realistic relationship between cause and effect, choices and consequences.
A single question can change everything, so ask them often.
LifeIt's amazing.Life2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Completely and entirely amazing.
Every day I wake up and look out my window, to see my sprawling neighborhood, a jumble of painted, two-story houses underneath a photoshopped sky. Later every day I ride through my neighborhood on my way to somewhere, whether far away or just down the street, and never once do I think about the people that live in those houses.
I mean, I've seen them out, washing their cars, playing in the sprinklers, but never once do I actually consider that these people have lives, that they're all different. They've lost people and made new friends, cheated while playing cards and have favorite Disney movies. They are all unique, all have their own stories, but I'll never know them.
I'll never hear about what they did when their hamster died, how they felt when they won a carnival game. I'll never even learn their names.
The Earth is a place for lonely people all living together.
Common Arguments regarding Ex-Atheists --Debunked. 1. There is no such thing as an "ex-atheist".Common Arguments regarding Ex-Atheists --Debunked.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
An ex-atheist is an individual who has abandoned the atheistic view of the "absence of belief" in a deity. I am one of them.
2. Ex-atheists were never atheist to begin with.
This is false. Atheism has no ideology or guideline in terms of who is a "true" atheist and who isn't. The closest thing to a "guideline" in terms of anti-religion is regarding "Dawkins Scale" representing the various levels of atheism depending on one's confidence level. But even then, there are flaws in the chart that go against reality terms of theism. To say that another individual was never an atheist before coming to religion after they proclaimed to be so is unruly in itself and only encourages that atheism is more like a religion rather than a freedom of religion. This is said because Christianity and other religions do have a guideline determining how true followers will handle doubt in face of a belief system or the

O__________OSo last night I stopped at a gas station to get, well, gas, while I was doing my paper route. I had a complaint from a customer, stating they did not receive their paper yesterday. Me being, well, me, I carry around with me (in my car that is) a small portable typewriter. I don't have good penmanship AT ALL, so when I need to leave a customer a note on a manner I type one up and put it with their paper. Anyway,so I'm sitting there pumping gas while typing on my typewriter listening to my MP3 player, which is hooked up to play through my car speakers. Suddenly some good ol' Benny Goodman comes on. Oh yea, I"m happy, so I turn it up some.O__________O3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I then hear the click of the gas nozzle finishing fillin' up Simmons (my Blazer to who don't know the story) and stepped out to put it back. From inside the gas station a ninty-ish year old man walks- no- waddles out and heads for his car in front of mine. Well he hears the music, so waddles over to me curiously. By that time I'm back inside my vehicle

What Is Blackbox And Why Should I Get It?After taking a look at the screenshots displayed either in my gallery or in :iconblackboxdesktop: 's galleries, a lot of Deviants are asking me what is Blackbox and how (and why) should they use it. And it's a good thing they show interest, because after a period of hibernation, due to many factors (mostly developers dropping out) Blackbox is back with a vengeance. What Is Blackbox And Why Should I Get It?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Well, Blackbox is a shell for Windows or a window manager for Linux, the styles (themes) being interchangeable between the two platforms, something unique in computing. In this essay I will only talk about the Windows flavor, since it's much more flexible than its Linux counterpart.
What is a shell? Well, it's the dressing over a cake, the clothing over a body, the greenery covering a bush. Every operating system has a shell. The Windows' native shell is Explorer, which is not only a file browser, like most of you may think. Delete Explorer and Windows crash. It's a fine shell, especially in the case of Windows 7, but it's h

He did a great deal of work with Jim Henson and company, so, anyone who A) was a child, and/or B) ever watched TV, will most likely have seen or heard him at some point.
Due to the fact I suck at math, The Count obviously failed me on that front, but damn did I get some good tips on maniacal laughter.
