This is my entry for the "Tis the Season for Illustration" contest. [link] The contest is to somehow depict a scene from a holiday movie or book, and I chose "Muppet Christmas Carol" as the movie.

(I got an honorable mention! Cool, thanks!)

This scene happens when the Ghost of Christmas Past takes Scrooge to his old school. Gonzo (as Charles Dickens) and Rizzo are sitting on this shelf as Gonzo narrates the scene being played out. When Gonzo mentions the schoolroom decaying...well, it does. The shelf breaks, and the busts go sliding around and eventually crash onto the floor.

I got the texture for the wall here: [link]

From left to right, the Muppet-style busts are: Shakespeare, Moliere, and Dante. And some other guy that I didn't take a proper look at because I only drew the very edge of him.

Concept:

For a contest of 'Alice in Wonderland' by Tim Burton I decided to pick the White Queen and reveal her real character.
Just look at the dark hair, eyes and lips and you will see, that there's a goth inside. And here it goes.
The White Rabbit is flabbergasted by her look, the spiderwebs at the door make the cat look drooling and perhaps the rabbit also is flabbergasted by seeing dame-stones where he supposed chess-figures.

My theme song for this is 'Collide - White Rabbit (Jefferson Airplane cover)'.

Nice to know:

Chess is an old chinese war game, training in strategy and tactics. And many other games derived from that, not only some kind of 3d-chess in the series of 'Star Trek'. Imagine all those table-top games and those basing on hex-fields.

Technics:

After picking many references I created some rough drawings, which I used to illustrate this within Photoshop.
My usual technic is similar to airbrush. Masking the single elements (so I don't need to take that much care of the borders later on). Custom texture brushes increase the credibility. The original size would fit on a poster.
By example the robe has been made by several strokes of a smooth standard brush of Photoshop. Afterwards I used the liquify-filter to increase the sharpness of the edges and painted textures over it in different layer modes.

Here goes the White Rabbit

"Release the subject."

"But Mr. Wesker, sir, it just wiped out half of the R and D staff, along with 75 percent of our security at that facility. It's far too dangerous to release onto the city until we have more control!"

"Precisely. Besides, what's the loss of a few scientists when we now have our ultimate weapon to finally rid us of that pest, Alice."

Third and final entry. Had a blast with all three and actually learned a lot not only about the character, but anatomy and creating dynamic scenes as well.

Now I'm going to have to see the movie and get the game so I can see if my interpretations were correct.
Best of luck to all in the contest and I'll see you when it's all done.
