Didn't have time to color this, heck I'll be even lucky if this made the deadline cut, ah well, this was my crack at the Darkness 100 page. I'll put up the color hopefully soon but I gotta get back to my actual paid comic work for now so no promises on when we'll see the colored version of this. (Also had to stitch the scan together so please ignore the horrendous line down the middle)

Finally, a finished piece. Awesome contest - Got me off my ass.

I had fun with this :) I miss doing sequentials. I might have overdone it a bit with the sound effect text though lol But I kinda like it this way :D

Goodluck to everyone entering the contest and happy holidays all! :)

EDIT:
- Changed font (thanks ~Sw-Art!)
- Too lazy to change speech bubbles though. Maybe when I find time.

here is my Darkness entry - I confess The Darkness was one of my favorite designs - it basically was everything I liked about Silvestri's work all in one world.

-Hello my rag time gaaaaallll! :music:

Yes. This is how I drink Dr. Pepper.
In an exquisite cup full of that lovely carbonated liquid while cans dance around me singing that oh so loveable tune. :)

UPDATE: I didn't make semi finals or finals or anything, so I wanted to show the work without the dialogue and text, because I prefer it like this. :)

Finished! I'm not a big fan of lettering. But I'm glad I know how to do it :P. Other than that I had a lot of fun doing this. I used to be terrified at the idea of painting sequential pages. Rather than the traditional pencil, ink, color. But I'm very much inspired by people like *nebezial who pull it off so nicely. Time to build my sequential portfolio all over again from scratch starting with this.

As soon as I saw that DA was having a Darkness contest I jumped out of my chair. It's one of my life goals to draw The Darkness comic. I know it's just a contest and it's just one page, but it's huge for me. I love this character. This is the first dark, gritty, non super hero comic I've ever read and it's one of my all time favorite stories and characters. As long as this comic series keeps running I will find a way to work on it someday. It's on my bucket list. So I'm excited about this contest!

When I saw this contest, I flipped my wig. Draw Top Cow characters? Yes please. To possibly be included in an actual issue of the Darkness? Check. To be judged by Marc Silvestri himself? Sweeeet. I had so much fun drawing this one, but the wording of the rules was nebulous. Just to be safe, it is fully lettered... though obviously the lettering is on a layer to be stripped away with the quickness if need be. And I drew a in-between version of the comic book, and the video game Jackie... I gave him the demon arms and one darkling and that's all.

Marc Silvestri was a huge influence on me growing up, and so was Dale Keown, who I think is one of the great unsung talents of the comic industry. Mr. Keown still does occasional work for Top Cow, and it's always amazing.

I always lamented being far too young to send off work to the talent searches in the 90's like the Homage/Wildstorm and the Extreme Studios ones. This is the closest thing I've seen in my adulthood, and I want to thank DeviantArt and Mr. Silvestri for putting it together.
