Maybe my favorite Mars cover to date, but definitely in my top 2 or 3. One of the best female figures I've ever painted, as well. 15"x23.5"

Cover to the premiere issue of a new MARS series that teams up John Carter with Gullivar Jones, a martian pulp hero that preceded Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom books by a decade.

Interesting note about this cover; the job preceding it took much longer than I anticipated (they always seem to do that) so I was left with virtually no time to get this in. While there are things I wish I had time to alter or correct for my own peace of mind I can excuse them to the fact that I painted this cover from start to finish in one 25 hour session! It's not the way I like to work but it's nice to know that after all these years I can still pull one out of my ass when I have to. :-)

Cover to the 5th and final issue. this issue of the series takes place many years in the future. Earthmen are terra firming Mars and encounter Gullivar Jones and the daughter of John Carter and Dejah Thoris. I had fun making up the retro spacemen and playing with backlighting once again.

Cover to the first issue of Dynamite Comics 12 issue adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs "John Carter, Warlord of Mars" series of novels. I LOVE this property and have wanted to revisit it ever since I painted the trading cards back in 1995. I'll be doing covers for all 12 issues.

Doing a posthumous Frazetta or Williamson tribute piece seemed a bit cliched, but I thought incorporating something of them into the first cover was more than appropriate.

Been really busy lately but thought I'd take a few minutes to drop the newest cover here. May be my favorite so far as I think it really captures the flavor and excitement of the series. I love painting action scenes!

Okay, just so we can avoid all of the "Charlie Sheen" yuks of the last post, yes, the male figure could have been a tad larger (but not by much). Let's just say he's an emissary of "The Midget Men of Mars", the lost John Carter novel. :-)
