CS Worlds Destroyed Chapter 12
I gasped, struggling for breath; at my heels bit a hoard of demons, screaming, yowling for my blood with the super demon leige himself leading the charge, Perseus.
Two years had passed. No Colus.
It never let up. Not once. Not a single day went by that I had a moment to rest from this mess, with the only difference being a few hours per week that I hid, that I could catch as much sleep as I dared. I had been captured too many times to count, I'd been declared every cursed name under the sun. I was hated, despised, and the world knew my name once again, but only as the insidious demonic spy for the angels. As far as everyone understood, i never did any good for these demons. I never cared for them. Never put my neck on the line to make sure their safety wasn't in jeopardy. No. Everything was demoted down that whatever good I had done for them, was to profit the angels somehow. That's the lie he spun.
The Colus was gone. On very rare, random occasions, i

I drifted back into another memory, something random and entirely nonsensical that happened years and years ago with Raziel. Sometime after our goat-demon fight where I managed to save his sorry hide with the Colus, an unfairly new weapon to me at that time, we made regular exorcist calls. There wasn't any real reputation gathered and I hadn't been suckered into killing off the good demons, along with the bad, just yet. Gauzier was kind enough to let our ruse, as shallow and transparent as the air around me, continue on unhindered; it was a memory nestled into a quiet, happy pocket of life that I got to enjoy and I wouldn't trade the world for it.
So way back when, we pulled up to this one house; a single floored , ranch-like house with an extensive carpeted basement, furnished and decked out in knickknacks of every variety. The priest had informed the two of us that the woman was hearing the usual. Scra

We spent hours talking, finally close to one another. I'm not a harlot, so I keep my business to myself. But it was the first time that I actually felt alive; not just in a metaphysical sense, but in a real one. That it felt like I could breathe, felt like the world was mine to shape, like my soul was truly happy, like we both sat there like honest, flesh and blood people. I have vivid memories of our conversation, all pretty accurately tied down, inter-spliced in with quick interruptions of the same variety. Colored smoke of sorts still oozed out his spine like some sort of party favor, the ground would randomly twist and bend. I didn't bring it up, only noticed it, not wanting to compromise our time like that.
Eventually the past souls memories caught up with him as i sat there, described every element I could. He in turn told me why he had done this or that as a past soul, why he wandered around that tree

" ..ohhh fuck." I muttered, flicking them as they were indeed feathers, right up out of the skin. Christopher spotted them too by this time, more confused than properly understanding the hell he was about to go through. Again. "Shit . you're going back."
"Back to what?" He almost laughed at it, before another surge of pain sent him grasping for his head, leaning over, suffering. I had to take a step back, trying and get my bearings, not expecting this.
"Cherub" I said quickly as his eyes went immediately wide, glaring at me through the discomfort while I noticed his hair looking less-hair-like, and more stiff, feather-like. Holding back from running away at the sheer awkwardness and the squeamish butterflies of what was happening, i forced myself to stay there. I wouldn't leave him to suffer this alone.
"You're joking." He winced out a very strained laugh for me to join in, to feebly push that what

I searched that entire night. Looked around the house, was careful to avoid the two parents sitting up pin straight in their chairs in fear, nervously talking about what they thought they saw and praying that someone would come to save them. I scoured every inch of that house for just...something. A note, a message, a clue, just anything. Checked in the normal place Ian used to hide things, checked the insides of the walls if something was sealed into them, tried everything. Eventually the sun wandered back over the horizon, the light eeping into the window's edge as I watched it, thinking, tired.
The entire place had been wiped clean. Even in the worst situations, even if everything had turned to chaos at the drop of a hat, he still would've left something for me. We were not that distanced. I knew that part of our friendship would've held true. It was just like he completely vanished in the blink of an eye. Without a note or a hint of an idea, I eventually left.

Couldn't sleep. Couldn't do much of anything. Too cold to move or sleep. Too tired to walk. Christo-Raz had said the coastline wasn't far off. I wanted to go to the coasts. I wanted to sit there, try and take in some last details. Try and spend what time I had left you know trying for some semblance of enjoyment. Try to put it out of my head that Christopher was trying to overtake Ian. Even though I told him what would come from that. Even though them combining kinda ooked me out, despite all those reasons. He went for it anyway.
Over the span of a day, I managed to walk that last mile to the coasts. Took it in five minute shifts with twenty minute breaks inbetween. Just get to the damn coasts. Just make it that far. Try not to think about how screwed up this whole thing was. Just keep it simple. I still lived in that muck, still felt bogged down by these darting, terrible thoughts, still took five to ten minute sobbing breaks throughout t

Eyes to the sky, the clouds above me raced along, sucked towards the horizon stuck on parade. I yawned, stretching out as the sun was just below my feet, the world cooling into shades of blue. Wisps of the white stalks of wheat raced alongside my body while I rested there, folding my hands over my chest and giving a comforted sigh. If I tried to imagine it, I could picture this as a real place, as a traversal terrain that I propped myself against, wind whistling through the trees, an actual reality. But it wasn't. Raziel's wings shot over the horizon to dispel my visions , secondary wings coming up just after that for another beat through the air.
"Hey! You tired of flying yet?" I called out above me, sitting up as the two of us lazily coasted around a generic part of somewhere. We didn't know where we were. We flew ( namely, he flew) in a completely random direction. No need to be anywhere specific. No rush.

"I implore you to awaken, m'lady" A noise; somefolk stormed into my bedroom, manners as rigid and uncaring as her tone as she drew the blinds, bathing this grand bedroom in sunshine while I struggled to find darkness to nestle into. "You're due for setup in an hour, and you find solace in sleeping in? What would your subjects think of that?" She squawked, indignant as I stowed myself away, unwilling and unable to face the birth of a new morn. I drew my coverings close.
"I care not what they think. They care what I think. That's how that works" Grumbling, turning over away from the annoying handmaiden in with the unfortunate task of rousing me from my sleep. "If the party is to start in two hours time from that decision, then my subjects will come to realize the importance of an extra hour of sleep as I surely have."

We rested later that night, watched the sunset for the second time; though this was a lot different. Christopher kept quiet while I sat against him, wandering the lines of sleep and wakefulness. Recuperating. Thankfully my body still knew how to do that; I could still get some of that energy back, I just had to rest up for it like a crabby old woman. I couldn't shake the feeling like I was waiting for something. That i'd started my final goodbyes, and I now I was stuck in purgatory, biding my time. Sick of residing in my own head, I turned back to the past-soul wonder, speaking solemnly.
"How come you've been so quiet?" It was an admitted difference between the two days of never ending repetition of questions- that I enjoyed, but it also worried me. Like he was stuck in a limbo of his own, at some obscure time when he wasn't allowed to talk or something like that. It all pretty much stopped. "Amber!" I screeched out, grabbing her into a hug before I could think that it's probably been at least thirty years since she'd seen me last. Like her mother, the older she got, the harder it became for her to see me at all, and by the time Ian had been born, I was completely invisible, my voice had gone silent . The thought of fading out to another person, after all that had happened so far with my last unaffiliated tie, was another difficult thing to get through.
But given that she no longer saw me, didn't mean she no longer could tell I was there. Amber had made a point early on to sit me down, talk to the empty side of a table for about a half hour with solemn, confident tones. That even if she no longer saw me, i was still welcomed, that she would always try to keep me involved; that just because o

My head pounded, leaning on something wet and moist as I first spotted one of those teeth, right next to my face- I figured it some sort of digested dental work. I was expecting death. Expecting some serious injuries, some wicked cool scars, just something. There definitely was a large bump on my head, but otherwise, that wasn't quite the case.
An ornate, abstract window was just above me, sunlight penetrating into this humid environment in a peculiar shaped zig zag, entire atrium bathed in a mild reddish glow. I shook my head out, gasped for air as my whole body felt achy and bruised, wanting to remain crumpled in this oddly shaped room, dirt beneath my knees. Confused that I was truly dead-dead, thinking that going into the light would've been a bad move, I stayed put, confused, jumbled and having a hard time realizing just what was going on here. I didn't want to move in case that was the catalyst for more horrible things

Ascending into heaven eased my transition by exactly nothing, I can tell you that.
Ground was below my feet, and instantly I was fighting. Blind. Something held around my arms- I knocked my head against it, shoving myself away. White; I couldn't see anything, couldn't hear anything, I stumbled against something that bit into my shins, taking a step over it to be shredded by up my other leg. Grunting in pain I kicked through it, deep cuts in one leg; a structure, a wall of some sort.
"Raziel!" I called again; my eyesight was barely registering shadows, some blurry masses against the wall to my left. I tore it away in a desperate attempt to find something sturdy as a hand grabbed my wrist, stronger this time. I struggled once, putting all my force into it and pulling away, punching into the wall in front of me with over-force. "Alright, so, hold it like that" Cempe's tone was starting to wear on me, doing it's best to keep my confidence high. But it had long since crumbled. The Colus wasn't just being finicky anymore, picking and choosing when to work and when to fail; with our hours of working on it, hours of trying to fix the problem, it was having a hard time staying around at all. Instead of giving out after a hours of work, it gave out at the slightest nudge. One hit.
Lurching in the full colus form, my head remained pointed at the ground, brain stumbling, trying to think. The only motion running over and over was that I had to leave. That staying there, around other demons, other elder spirits, I was putting them in jeopardy. If i stayed, we'd have a repeat of Greece, my stubborn actions would completely cripple hell's systems. "Wait a second, you don't remember any of it?" I questioned him later in the night, after he'd healed completely, and after we got up and moved a couple hundred yards in a different direction to leave the carnage and other dead cherub body behind. He sat there tiredly, preening himself while I tried not to laugh at him; but the entire underside of his body was coated in blood, now all dried to his skin and apparently it was pretty uncomfortable. He looked back at me, 'spitting' out dried blood and cringing the entire time.
"I remember the cherub taking you, some parts about flying behind them and having a hard time catching up, then suddenly I'm just kinda falling down some time later all cut up and bloodied with you falling along with me. " He preened out one of the longer flight feathers, talking more with his back mouth instead, "The rest is a haze."

"Noooonaaa" Cempe's aggravated tone rang down the hall of the estate. My groggy eyes snapped open in my room, a semi-assembled new Utopia under the crust. Less waterfall, more stream. Less rocks, more soft moss. More glow worms, more mushrooms, more of everything that was different then before. Out of it, I heard the voice again, "Nona! Your 6 AM fight appointment is here!" Bellowing out loud, I rolled over, stretching.
"Tell him to go away! Lock the barrier and just let him tire himself out!" I complained, grabbing at my head that this was happening all over again. For the whole last week. Either every day, or every other day, he'd be back. He'd come by and get his assistant to bellow and holler that we were cowards, and that I was hiding from his glorious power. Then I'd trudge out, smack him with the Colus a few times, and he'd retreat. Rinse and repeat for a week. Sometimes he had part of his fan club following him around, sometimes not. But if he w

We headed towards the coasts, lumbering slowly over field and pasture, through the quietest parts of the upper northwest. Strode over the vineyards and down each narrow path as Christopher followed the morning sun; we didn't fly. He didn't fly, I mean. The cherub's "Creative edits" of leaving only the smaller pair of wings from the original design, the ones at the back, or at least farther back were problematic. Namely that he couldn't fly without stumbling face first into the dirt. They also really weren't big enough to lift him anymore. I tried explaining how he could fix the design again to work it out, but he didn't seem very motivated to do much beside walk and hum.
As Michael said, things got better. Slowly. Learned some tips and tricks to extend consciousness, got better at pinning down what was, and wasn't real. When I kept my eyes closed for the majority of the time, I could understand and hear things for longer. Same

"Hey! Neri!" He said happily, following me like a lost puppy as we wandered out of the forest, finally. I changed my appearance back to something he'd know, going through the first few rounds of questions mostly being 'who are you and why are you abducting me' . I didn't know where I was going. I don't think it really mattered. "How are you?" I knew this conversation well. We'd probably had it fourteen times now, consecutively.
"I am quite well Christopher how have you been!" I shouted it, devoid of most emotions besides treating someone like an annoying 5 year old. I tried the first ten times, I really did. I tried to change the subject, tried to ask him if he knew anything; when i did get him to count to five, he counted to three. That told me two things. 1: he was remembering things in a chain of about 4 items at a time, max; and 2: that he was at the very very basics of a past soul, fresh out of the cauldron.
Past souls can adapt, they

Spinning in a perfect circle on my heels, I turned around in shock to see him, frozen in place much like he had been when I said the big ILU to him. Except his eyes darted around a hell of a lot more.
"I I I I don't know .I " he mumbled as my eyes went even wider, in danger of falling out of my head altogether. His hands were shaking, rattling up and down before they suddenly stopped, his petrified look easing off, as he was drifting into that obscurity and restarting, once again. He had more responses left, just a few, but spilling that out must've .eaten away his spare replies. I couldn't think. Not clearly at least.
His eyes brightened back up, looking to me once without worry, before looking at the two demons ahead of us, still shocked at the shenanigans we were pulling. Christopher pointed at them happily.
"Friends of yours?"
I stared for another minute in silence before my personality broke back into existence, loudly.

Best I could tell, Mr. Jacob Meizel was going to collect his newspaper, prim and tidy at the end of his driveway. He took a long deep breath of the new morning air, enjoying his time as a free man, listening for the early morning calls of the American Robin. That's pretty much as far as he got. There were a few seconds of undecided standing about at the end of his driveway, turning to head back towards his house as I barreled into that man at full tilt. Swirling as something of a poltergeist, something of a regular spirit, I was too angry and wandering too close around blind rage to care. His slippers were left on the edge of the driveway as I punted his murdering self into the grass, following through as a full Colus spirit and pressing him heavy against the dirt with a delirious snarl. Even if he couldn't see me, I'm pretty sure I knocked his senses far past the end of this block, at least.

"Alright! Good! Now pitch your wings down a little more!" I coached, riding the feathered rocket back and forth like an arrow in the clouds . To break the barriers of physics, to skip through space at a lightning quick speed. I couldn't see the practical use for it now, but I wanted to give him something to be proud of, wanted to raise his spirits a little. It wasn't working very well.
"Now, you wanna think of the air like steps! The way you normally fly is to take the steps one at a time" I screeched for his head, trying to bellow over the 'wind'. Nudging him in the collarbone, i made sure he was listening, "So try and take those steps two at a time. Imagine yourself farther then we are, make it happen!" The memories themselves weren't terribly well preserved. Not crystal clear, not entirely coherent, but they told a whole different story. It picked up somewhere in that hospital in heaven, waiting in line to be reborn. I could read his feelings at the time but I couldn't hear internal thoughts or anything deeper then that; the emotions told the story well enough. Fear; absolute fear, and also a strong sense of...betrayal or denial. That caught me off guard. Like he did it as a sort of "well fine, i'll go over here, then" move by choosing to be reborn instead of staying with me. But it spiked on random instances, it wasn't a constant feeling. Within the memory, he turned and was looking at me, as i was looking at someone else about the room, glaring at them, squinting and trying to figure something out. Emotion suddenly became a mix of regret, frustration and jealousy.
Jealous? Of me? For what? In that memory,

I lazily loafed around his house for about a half hour, afraid to go outside. Afraid to know what " blending in" I'd be doing in a realm that knew my face, knew my mannerisms (fake or not) and knew the proper action was to send the entire populace into a frenzied stampede to kick me out as soon as possible. That, and the last time he helped me to 'blend in', the smug little bastard stuck me in a skirt. So I stuck around inside, looking at the portrait after portrait done in his namesake, by the artisans of the time period for so many years. My opposite in damn near every way. We did the same job. We held the same kind of power, and we fought the same brand of enemy, everything was just mirrored. "I feel like singing a song, anyone else feel like singing a song?" I rallied, verging exhaustion, trudging on. We'd found a new house. Abandoned, hopeless little thing some mile and a half over, large, spacious basement, abandoned due to water problems, a flood of some sort, multiple levels, set aside in a far, strange end of an even more desolate block. No doubt it smelled, festered with asbestos and mold, which, thankfully, were not big health concerns on our list. No, our main health concern was the army of death approaching our stronghold, of the Cherub's recurring wrath.
We'd been staying in a temporary house for a month while we searched out the perfect one. This meant everyone, demons and angels alike, stayed inside all hours of the day, no matter the disagreements and frustrations that arose. Worse than that, the standby house was cozy at best. Cozy for a four person household maybe, so with 12 resident spirits including a massive coilin

I am, at my very core, a being of absolute fear. My very existence is tied so closely to Death, to this otherworld, to the life beyond your size 6 shoes, that I ignored its presence outright. In my very first, basic life, I didn't study death. I feared it. I shook at the notion there was no more. I loved being who I was back so long ago, baffled at the thought of not existing. Even at the end of my initial life, bloodied hands to my chest, my only thought was of the rapidly approaching finish line. I could care less what I was attacked by. Couldn't be bothered to think of my friends and family who would be affected by my loss. It was all about me. My paranoia with death and inexistence. That's it. Fear.
Ironic in a great fearless leader, i suppose.
My bloodied hands slid down the side of the bark, losing the strength in my fingers, anxiously trying to face my enemy. It was an animal, nondescript and unimportan

My ears tuned away from the world, eyes stuck on one, rather unimportant thing as the gaggle of them laughed politely, only the main idiot amidst them hooting like an escaped primate- the mole beneath Zeus's neck. How with each chiding, near to die though unfortunately not dying laugh that he bellowed out into the hall as we all sat waiting for dinner to be served, how that mole sloshed and jiggled around. How the very angles and edges that barely defined him as a human being, something so simple and vague, still bred these deep seated pangs of frustration. That each and every time he glanced back over to me mid-story, he'd stare while insulting my person. I hated him, I hated everything about what he was; hated every sickly syllable escaping that gullet of his. There was no resurrectable point.
Our guests arrived in a fairly usual fashion; a few quick words about current events, a few sly insults here and there to ridicule one another, preppi
