Happy SpringHi all!Happy Spring3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Thought it might be time for a little update.
First of all I would like to apologize for not being able to reply on all your lovely comments and artworks right away. I'm writing my Masters thesis at the moment and spend a lot of time in the laboratory and I find it more and more difficult to keep up with all the messages I'm receiving. I'm afraid I may not be able to answer every comment in the future But I want you to know that your messages mean the world to me!! I love all your support and interest in my work. It's truly all of you who inspire me to do what I do and I deeply appreciate every single message. You guys are awesome!
I will of course always answer my notes and write comments to works made from my stock.
Because of my school it has also been difficult to find time to make new stocks the last couple of months, and when I finally had the time it was always bad weather!
But now spring is here and I finall
Believe In YourselfJust some friendly artistic advice from someone who has been drawing for nearly four decades...Believe In Yourself2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Believe it yourself. When you sit down to draw, believe that the outcome will be successful. Failure at drawing comes from not trying hard enough, not working hard enough, and not believing that you can get the job done. Success comes from working hard, learning from past mistakes, and believing that you can and will rises to the occasion. If you are confident that you will do well each time you sit down to draw, you will do better work than the time before. You might not always get things right, or be satisfied with your outcomes, but you will be moving forward as an artist. Repetition. It's not the only way to improve, but it's the only GUARANTEED way to do it. The more you draw, the better you'll get at it. The more you ink, the better you get at it. The more you color, the better you get at it. Never fear your drawing table (Wacom, etc). You aren't going to be dismantling nuc

MASSIVE ONLINE ART THEFT!!!Please Note The Edits below...MASSIVE ONLINE ART THEFT!!!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The website http://imagixs.com/ is posing itself, it seems, as an online coloring book... One their page it says....
"Imagixs is a free coloring page search engine. You can find any kind of coloring page with Imagixs!
Just type what you're looking for in the search box and get your free coloring pages and pictures instantly!"
This website is taking all of OUR art, and posting them online as coloring books. I was alerted that a lot of my art is one it. A lot of other peoples art is on it too. You can pretty much type anything into that search bar and stolen work comes up. I strongly urge everyone to search their most well known DA screen names on that website and see what pops up. And if your work pops up, contact the "contact us" link at the bottom of the page and complain. If your work doesn't pop up, and you are just outraged that they are stealing at, do the same thing. Please. It helps us all out.

4 Kinds of StorytellingHere's an old journal from 2010 about storytelling. Because I have a lot more readers these days, I think I'm going to start reposting some of my earlier posts for my newer audience. So for you old timers, feel free to skip.4 Kinds of Storytelling2 years ago in Personal More Like This
In full disclosure, I slightly edited this journal to make it a little more balanced (while also fixing a ton of typos).
I feel like the word "storytelling" gets thrown around a lot in our industry. Yet when I look out there at some comics, I don't always see a lot of evidence for it.
It feels like people in comics pros--myself included--often use the word only because we feel like we're supposed to. Over the years enough professionals have been accused of being poor storytellers to the degree that everyone is now afraid of being a pinup artist as opposed to a bona fide storyteller. But it's not enough just to claim you're a storyteller.
Most people reading this probably h

Hah, take THAT all you legitimate showcases, features, and contest announcements! We're all riding the easy train to Arbitrary Pageviews Junction!
But in all seriousness, knock it off people. We have real news happening all the time on this site. At least disguise your raffle with the guise of something important.
If all the footer becomes is "free points," it becomes pointless.

You in Pinas? Grab a Kwentillion!Today I was on break at my workplace and strolled around National Bookstore, when I glanced upon this magazine with a weird name and a cover fit for the international eye - KWENTILLION.You in Pinas? Grab a Kwentillion!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
At a glance, the cover is screaming with mouth-watering fantasy art from one of my idols - Chester Ocampo (a.k.a. chesterocampo), then the bottom header reads - Budjette Tan, Kajo Baldisimo, Andrew Drilon and more...
Budjette and Kajo, to those who don't know, are the crazy masterminds behind the mind-blowing graphic series TRESE. If you have been ignoring these on the bookstands, do yourself a favor and buy ALL four books, for heaven's sake! Incidentally, Budjette is half of the editorial duo behind Kwentillon. The other one is Paolo Chikiamco.
I'm just gonna lay it down plain and simple - Kwentillion is Pinoy Heavy Metal waiting to happen.
This first issue features amazing samples of Pinoy artistry - The Last Datu by Budjette and Kajo; Poso Maximo by Robert Magnusan; Hi

Fanime Stuff Stuff Stuff!!!Hey guys! As you may have heard, I will be at the Artist Alley Table T215 of Fanime this year with lots of prints, posters, cards, and the 1000 Words book!Fanime Stuff Stuff Stuff!!!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The prints! And these aren't all of them. More are hidden under each other or out of view. They come in all sizes from the largest measuring 12x18 inches at $7 to the smallest measuring 3x6 inches at $1, and everything in between.
The Augen Auf playing cards will be for sale for $15 per deck, or $25 for 2 decks. I'm currently not selling these cards online so Fanime is the only place to get it.

I had no idea I was being so bitter - but when I thought about it I had to concede the point. And that made me start wondering why - Why did I feel so angry about the UK? What was my problem?
But here's the thing - Some 14 years ago I couldn't get any work. We had just had baby no.2, and I had done a run on 'Spawn: the Dark Ages', and had been suddenly replaced, along with the rest of the team on the book, because McFarlane wanted 'a change of direction'. And then there was literally no work. I went to NY to see DC and Marvel, but they had nothing. I pitched company after company, to no avail. I tried to get on illustration agency books, but was refused by all of them. I tried children's book publishers, Core Design, and other computer game companies. Nobody wanted me. Even Frank Frazetta criticized my art in his book 'Icon' - just to add insult to injury!
We ended up having to sel

The above picture and verses are a personal project of mine.
The inspiration for the project was a mix of really liking how a self portrait picture done in black and white came out with an emphasis on minimal editing and bare skin, and the lyrics of the John Lennon Song "God".
Anyone who knows me personally will be aware I am not a religious person (that's a conversation for another day).
It got me thinking about what I really believe in life, and where I place my trust.
And I came to the conclusion t

How I cosplayed the cast of Free! sort-of-tutorialGroup cosplay, forever alone style! Yeah, that's all me.How I cosplayed the cast of Free! sort-of-tutorial2 years ago in Personal More Like This
In this post, I'll get into how I did each one!
Intro, and some bad old pictures
For those of you who have the patience to read for some extra info!
When I started cosplaying, I didn't think makeup was such a major part of it. I was so hesitant to even put eyeliner because I'd think, "This character is a guy, I shouldn't look like I'm wearing makeup!" And I guess I was silly enough to think I looked enough like the characters I chose without doing anything to my face?
I can't find more pictures of my really old cosplays (which is just as well, hahah) from the time I didn't want to use makeup apart from these:
I cosplayed as Haku from Naruto. I don't remember wearing any makeup for this. It doesn't show too well on these pictures but I saw some others where the natural redness of my lips made it look like I was wearing lipstick even if I wasn't. I felt it made me look more feminine than I should. Haku is still a guy after al
