H.O.W. Christmas Contest - Believe in U / No HaterRegarding about CHRISTMAS contest, I'd like to make something clear:H.O.W. Christmas Contest - Believe in U / No Hater4 years ago in Personal More Like This
BELIEVE IN YOURSELF & NO HATERS ALLOWED!
I got some comments about people who want to participate in the contest, but are afraid that their skills aren't great enough to compete with others. Those thinking as such, please: STOP THINKING LIKE THAT! When I do contests like these, the first goal I'm aiming is to let artists here have fun making whatever they want, their own creation, with something I helped created. You are all artists and when you decided to embark on that path, it's mostly always for a single reason: passion. Yes, I made the prizes of this contest quite interesting, but leave that out of your mind. Take this contest as an opportunity to challenge your skills, a way to improve yourself and get better. Take it as a pleasure too, to play with someone else's creation and make it your own, as you see fit. That's how you can unlock your potential. Because at the end, whether you win the

Yaya's Cosplay Tips - Part 1I had to have emergency surgery this weekend to remove my appendix, so not only did I miss HeroesCon but I'm also on forced bed rest for the next little while. So we went to Toycon last Saturday and as usual I... didn't really get to take pictures of toys and stuff. It was so crowded around the merchandise hall that I couldn't stop and take photos because people were constantly threading through and shoving. It was like a river of people with an actual current, hahah! Sometimes I'd find a friend to chat with but we'd eventually be pulled apart by the tide, it was kind of funny.
I wanted to wear something simple and comfortable so I posted on my Facebook that I would wear my old Ichigo cosplay in his Karakura High uniform. The Bleach manga is so crazy now that it just made me miss the days when Bleach was simple.
I think this is the last decent picture of myself that I have wearing this, and it was taken ages ago.
And here it is on me again, with a new wig, better contact lenses, better wig styling and cosplay makeup skills (somewhat), and Kon plush that was give

How to Have TIGHT Pencils and my ERASER TechiquesI have had several Deviant Artists ask me, how do I get clean or tight pencil work and what is my process? How to Have TIGHT Pencils and my ERASER Techiques7 months ago in Personal More Like This
Well, it’s a Great question and I decided to repost my reply to that answer here as a journal in hopes that it helps Artist in this great community! I will also try to add more techniques, hints, and helpful guides in the future.
So, if you have requests on How I do something, please comment below as well and we can see what we can tackle next, No promises on every requests, but I will do my best to help.
Here is the 1st Question:
How do I get such tight and clean pencils and what is my erasing process?
1. First, lay down your rough base/sketch, (Try to make it loose, focus more on the composition and apply your references that you hopefully previously gathered if its an assignment), and apply the base VERY lightly. IF your light boxing your foundation base, do all your line work VERY lightly as its hard to discern and make d
You in Pinas? Grab a Kwentillion!Today I was on break at my workplace and strolled around National Bookstore, when I glanced upon this magazine with a weird name and a cover fit for the international eye - KWENTILLION.You in Pinas? Grab a Kwentillion!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
At a glance, the cover is screaming with mouth-watering fantasy art from one of my idols - Chester Ocampo (a.k.a. chesterocampo), then the bottom header reads - Budjette Tan, Kajo Baldisimo, Andrew Drilon and more...
Budjette and Kajo, to those who don't know, are the crazy masterminds behind the mind-blowing graphic series TRESE. If you have been ignoring these on the bookstands, do yourself a favor and buy ALL four books, for heaven's sake! Incidentally, Budjette is half of the editorial duo behind Kwentillon. The other one is Paolo Chikiamco.
I'm just gonna lay it down plain and simple - Kwentillion is Pinoy Heavy Metal waiting to happen.
This first issue features amazing samples of Pinoy artistry - The Last Datu by Budjette and Kajo; Poso Maximo by Robert Magnusan; Hi

Thought it might be time for a little update.
First of all I would like to apologize for not being able to reply on all your lovely comments and artworks right away. I'm writing my Masters thesis at the moment and spend a lot of time in the laboratory and I find it more and more difficult to keep up with all the messages I'm receiving. I'm afraid I may not be able to answer every comment in the future But I want you to know that your messages mean the world to me!! I love all your support and interest in my work. It's truly all of you who inspire me to do what I do and I deeply appreciate every single message. You guys are awesome!
I will of course always answer my notes and write comments to works made from my stock.
Because of my school it has also been difficult to find time to make new stocks the last couple of months, and when I finally had the time it was always bad weather!
But now spring is here and I finall
Believe In YourselfJust some friendly artistic advice from someone who has been drawing for nearly four decades...Believe In Yourself3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Believe it yourself. When you sit down to draw, believe that the outcome will be successful. Failure at drawing comes from not trying hard enough, not working hard enough, and not believing that you can get the job done. Success comes from working hard, learning from past mistakes, and believing that you can and will rises to the occasion. If you are confident that you will do well each time you sit down to draw, you will do better work than the time before. You might not always get things right, or be satisfied with your outcomes, but you will be moving forward as an artist. Repetition. It's not the only way to improve, but it's the only GUARANTEED way to do it. The more you draw, the better you'll get at it. The more you ink, the better you get at it. The more you color, the better you get at it. Never fear your drawing table (Wacom, etc). You aren't going to be dismantling nuc

Q: Where did you get your wig?
A: My Finn made it for me. It was made out of two long wigs-- one 48 inch, one 60 inch. They were purchased on Ebay. I don't know the seller, sorry!
Q: How did you do the makeup?
A: It is Ben Nye Character Series cream makeup in Ghoul Grey (CB-8). It was applied using latex makeup sponges and sealed with Ben Nye Neutral Set Colorless Powder and hairspray. I do not recommend using hairspray unless you have someone helping you apply the makeup.
You can buy it here: http://www.frendsbeautysupplyonline.com/bennyecharacterbasecb-8ghoulgrey.aspx for only $3.40!
Q: How much makeup did you use?
A: Evicted! : Medium Coverage (face, neck, chest, shoulders, arms, hands)
Henchmen: Medium Coverage (face, neck, chest, shoulders, arms, hands)
It Came From the Nightosphere**: Minimum Coverage (face, neck, hands)

MASSIVE ONLINE ART THEFT!!!Please Note The Edits below...MASSIVE ONLINE ART THEFT!!!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The website http://imagixs.com/ is posing itself, it seems, as an online coloring book... One their page it says....
"Imagixs is a free coloring page search engine. You can find any kind of coloring page with Imagixs!
Just type what you're looking for in the search box and get your free coloring pages and pictures instantly!"
This website is taking all of OUR art, and posting them online as coloring books. I was alerted that a lot of my art is one it. A lot of other peoples art is on it too. You can pretty much type anything into that search bar and stolen work comes up. I strongly urge everyone to search their most well known DA screen names on that website and see what pops up. And if your work pops up, contact the "contact us" link at the bottom of the page and complain. If your work doesn't pop up, and you are just outraged that they are stealing at, do the same thing. Please. It helps us all out.

Louie Schwartzberg has made it his life’s mission to use his cinematic artistry to raise the alarm for public awareness of the dire situation we are facing in the possible collapse of our taken-for-granted natural resources. The “colony collapse disorder” currently decimating our honeybees was the prompt for Louie’s new movie, Wings of Life, which at it's essence, is a love story that feeds the earth.

In the upcoming months, I will be self-publishing my first novel Ascension: the Awakening, and in celebration, I wanted to hold this contest. I will be including the winning entry in the print copy of the book along with endorsement for the artist (more details below).
The theme is "Japan"... That's all I'm saying. Do with it what you will
It is *not* required that you use all five characters in your entry. You may choose just one or more than one. And I am encouraging people to include their favorite OC in the shot (Please keep existing copyrights in mind. I would be unable to include any OC whose design infringes on another creator's work.) The winning picture will be included in the print copy of Ascension: the Awakening. Because of this, entries must be black and white and 300 dpi. Along with the picture, the winner may include their personal website, DA profile address, o

I have uploaded the pictures of the main pattern pieces for the jacket to my scrapbook. Take a look if you are having troubles modifying your own pattern! (I couldn't find the pattern for the collar, I drew it on a piece of paper somewhere and I think it is gone now... sorry!)
I have had a lot of requests asking how I made the jacket for my cosplay, so I decided I would write a quick overview of what went into making it. I will not go into excruciating detail, but if you would like more help on any particular section, please leave a comment and I would be happy to elaborate!
STEP 1: Picking fabric
Print lots of good colored reference shots for yourself (or carry a smartphone with you) before heading to the fabric store. It goes without saying that you want to pick fabric with color that closely resembles your source, but it is also important to take into consideration things like the thickness and flexibility of yo

I am an art thief...Hey peeps!I am an art thief...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Any of you who follow my journals know how passionate I am about pursuing the seemingly endless procession of art-thieves that pop up with increasing regularity. I was recently directed to this website, I Am An Art Thief/Plagiarism Exposed: http://www.iamanartthief.com/
I'm putting this out there so those not in "the know" can educate themselves and, even more importantly, so that any of us can easily report these people when we stumble upon them. No, these aren't the art-police but, in my 20+ years of experience in dealing with these types, I've found that public exposure is the best tactic. Cockroaches HATE the light. Just be sure that if you're planning on outing someone have your evidence ready to go. This isn't a witch-hunt against people copying someone else art in an attempt to learn or for mere enjoyment. It's for people copying someone's art, claiming it as their own, and/or
