How do you deal with haters?I got this as a question on my Tumblr, and I felt I could share my thoughts here as well because it seems it's something a lot of people can relate to. I’m certain there are people who dislike me. Some I come to know through whisperings because I have eyes everyyyyywheeeeere.
However, I don’t feel the need to acknowledge them or do anything about it unless they are causing any real harm, especially to people I care about.
There is a popular quote that I like referencing for this topic, which gets the message across in a charming way:
“You can be a juicy, ripe peach and there’s still going to be someone who doesn’t like peaches, so you can either submit to someone’s criticism of you, or you can get on with the business of being your own amazing self who attracts other like-minded people that appreciat

Do YOU want to sell prints? One mistake you make.Hi people!Do YOU want to sell prints? One mistake you make.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Today it is a short journal without photos, sorry.
I would like to give you one important advice, so I hope it can be still useful
I see many people try to sell prints here. And they are often sad they have not sold anything yet.
But at the same time I see they do the same mistake. So:
HOW PEOPLE TRY TO SELL THEIR WORK AS A PRINT?
1. you took a photo (drew a picture). It is nice, so you want to post it as a deviation.
2. you edit it. Making it sharper, more colourful, adding contrast, CHANGING a size to some 850x600px, for example.
3. you post it as a deviation.
4. you look at your deviation and think "hm, it looks pretty cool! Maybe somebody can buy it. I will allow it as a print."
5. you click at "submit as a print" and in "print submission" option you just scroll down and click at "SUBMIT AS A PRINT".
6. now deviation in your gallery has that cool "buy this print" green button and you are excited about somebody buying it.
7. you are disappointed that nobody bought it.
Do you want to use my work? Then READ, PLEASE.Hi pals!Do you want to use my work? Then READ, PLEASE.2 months ago in Personal More Like This
I get many questions from people who want to use my photos somehow – I state they need my permission, but I am too busy to answer their notes and comments at the same time. Very stupid situation that is in fact a trap for all those who are polite and really ask for permission
That’s why I decided to create some general rules.
And to make it user friendly, I chose the form of questions and answers.
I hope they fit any situation you might think about, but if you get any idea, please, do not hesitate to comment!
Those rules will be also on the main page of my account and I will link to them through every of my new deviations
RULES FOR USING MY WORK
The main rule is: ALWAYS GIVE CREDIT.
Even if I do not like what people did with my work, I will always treat them nicely when they at least tried to somehow credit me. On the contrary, I will always hunt down pe
Why I crossplayIt's the male to female crossplays that usually get stranger looks from the crowd. I understand why and I'm actually fine with it.Why I crossplay10 months ago in Personal More Like This
I've been asked quite a lot in my years of cosplaying why I like to dress up as a girl at times. I was never able to give a definite answer back then. I suppose it was because I wasn't aware of why I did such a thing.
One reason would be that sometimes, I really just like the character's design. It's a hobby of mine to create things, and being able to materialize something I love makes me happy.
However now I believe I found the core reason of why I do it. Lately I've been delving deeper into doing more complicated costumes such as Capt. Jack Sparrow. In doing those, I realised that it's all about the transformation. Being a costume enthusiast ever since I was little, I've always found a certain joy in being able to turn myself into all sorts of characters. This carried over into my adulthood and I wanted to challenge myself even more.

Louie Schwartzberg has made it his life’s mission to use his cinematic artistry to raise the alarm for public awareness of the dire situation we are facing in the possible collapse of our taken-for-granted natural resources. The “colony collapse disorder” currently decimating our honeybees was the prompt for Louie’s new movie, Wings of Life, which at it's essence, is a love story that feeds the earth.

I found someone that made my life colorful again. Someone that makes me want to live my life happily. We are a couple for two months now, but it already feels like years when we talk to each other. It's like I have found a soulmate. A person I can always relate to and a person always being there for me. With him, I feel like a princess, and like a little star.
I love you, Sascha.

I agree with this post but I've never told anyone to not to go to art school or university.
People ask me all the time what school do I go to (ALL THE TIME). I always respond "just a cheap state university", but it kinda of bugs when people want me to be specific when it really doesn't matter.
I don't like the bureaucratic system in my university. I think taking GE classes are a waste of time and should only count as electives. I hate how the university uses the horrible methods to teach us art since it never works. I hate how the Art Department does not offer a lot of classes compared to other departments.
I took over five Animation classes and none of them helped me. What helped me was studying from the "Preston Blair Animation book". I studied it on my own time when I was doing an internship in Florida (nothing to do with my career but it was fun).
I've seen students struggle because they were not taught properly how t

I get asked a lot how I have surrounded myself with a nice array of models. It truly is very hard to do in the beginning. Sites like model mayhem are good but can be mind numbing. So how did it all happen?
As a young man, I fell in love with hooters wings. Everywhere I travelled, I made it a point to check out the "local" hooters. Now this was in my late teens, early twenties. Fast forward to two years ago. I had started doing the model mayhem thing and there I found a few women and it was cool but hard at the same time. I had just started shooting and had zero port. Luckily though there are a lot of women who want to be models and if your not a total freak and weird you can shoot them. Still wasn't satisfied.
So I went up to the local hooters and it hit me. Tons of women, most gorgeous, build a good rep and bam it might work haha. So Abe and I talked one into coming into the studio

Obsolete InkingLately I've been doing work for DC Direct--the wing of DC in charge of statues, toys, etc. It's been a nice break from PRJ. The money is good, and it hasn't been soulless like I imagined. Corporate gigs can go either way--sometimes they want you to do exactly what "they" want, other times they want you to do your thing unencumbered. Luckily this was the latter.Obsolete Inking3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The rates for toy designs are broken down into three parts: you get paid for the sketches, the final pencils and the inks. For this gig, the inking rate was higher than my normal inking rate. It felt good, but then I realized that 25% of my fee was for inks. And it raised an unsettled concern that's been on my mind.
How long will inkers be needed?
In the old days they needed inkers because computers weren't yet being used in print. I forget the name of the machine that preceded the scanner (process cameras?), but it was low-tech enough that i

Devious Accents `15Have you ever wondered what goes on in the artistic endeavors of a Senior? What makes them tick?Devious Accents `151 year ago in Art Features More Like This
"Devious Accents" is a feature/interview series of Senior Members here on deviantART that aims to surface key features of each Senior and to show them to the community as a whole, brought to you by dAseniors--the official group for Senior Members on deviantART!
Finally, thoughts and sentiments from the Senior-side are revealed to the general community. Let's get started!
Joining us this week will be Kendra-Paige, a skilled photographer and long-time deviant!
MiloticScale: Why did you decide to make the leap and become a deviant?
Kendra-Paige: It was over nine years ago when I joined, when I was a very young teenager still grasping at expression. DeviantART was new and growing at the time, with a rather close-knit community, which was something lacking on other art communities. I believe that’s what drew me to the site at the time
10 years?!? wow!!!haha wow, i just noticed that I've officially been on deviantart for 10 years now. gotta draw something to commemorate that soon! i'm not gonna lie, it means quite a lot to me. even though i didn't know it at the time, putting my artwork online and joining art communities like deviantart has become the foundation of pretty much my entire LIFE as i know it now. i mean i started uploading my artwork to this site for fun, just to get in touch with other artists and gain some exposure, and now it is my career. i firmly believe that my fanbase here on deviantart and the things i've learned here have EVERYTHING to do with me being able to work as a freelance artist. i discovered so many inspiring and great artists through this site. the reason i chose the Utrecht School of the Arts as my college was because i followed Bakenius and loved his work; when i didn't like the school i was attending at the time, i contacted him through deviantart notes and he advised me to check out his school10 years?!? wow!!!11 months ago in Personal More Like This

About the Season GodsAbout the Season GodsAbout the Season Gods4 years ago in Personal More Like This
About the Gods:
Born from the stars, 4 small children awoke in Voleros, a desolate and lifeless world. Terrified of being lost, the children traversed the land, searching for any of their star mothers. While together, a beautiful sense of calm surrounded them. However, when separated, the children noticed something amazing. One boy discovered the sun was always out whenever he walked during the day, and temperatures spiked as he rested, while the girl experienced something completely opposite. Another boy noticed that flowers would grow and bloom near him, while the final girl noticed that the leaves would turn red if she touched them.
Amazed by these powers, and noticing that they didn't happen while together as a group, the children agreed to part ways for a year to improve their skills. Deciding to meet in the middle of a huge lake after that year was up - they named their meeting place Haven, a sacred place for them that no other creature could enter. After th
Dark humorOK, it's recently come to my attention that Pewdie's videos can offend some people. One of the most notable examples is the dark humor he uses. More specifically, the "rape jokes."Dark humor2 years ago in Personal More Like This
If you don't know what I mean, Pewdie used to use the word rape fairly often in his videos and he would use it in a joking manner. Now, I will admit that this did kinda offend me a little when I first started watching him. But I was able to look past that and enjoy Pewdie for who he was: a guy trying to have fun and be funny. And I know that rape isn't funny and that it's a terrible and traumatic event that will likely have long lasting effects on the victim, be they male or female. If you yourself have ever been raped, my heart goes out to you.
A common misconception is that dark humor seems to glorify or make light of tragedy. It doesn't. Dark humor takes a morbid or taboo subject matter and helps us transcend it and show us its absurdity. Dark humor, to me, is probably the best kind of humor. It provides
Things you should never ask an Artist to doI write this to not spark a debate or judgement, only to share my personal opinion and experience in hopes of benefiting you and offering insight to people thinking about hiring an artist.Things you should never ask an Artist to do2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Things you should never ask an Artist to do:
1. Free Work.
Do I really have to explain this one? You wouldn't walk into any other business offering a service and ask for free clothes or a burger right? No, you pay for them without question and they take a lot less creativity, time to make and cost a lot less. Why ask people to work for free on something you couldn't make yourself? If you believe in your vision, then I suggest find funding for it to pay the people doing the work for you. This goes for family as well, don't get me wrong, I love my family and enjoy doing something for them but it means so much more when I OFFER to do something for free than when it's expected. Let the artist decide whether or not they want to give their time for free without asking them, as a rule treat them with res
