Want Your Work Seen on DA?
Good Saturday morning, for whatever that is worth. Hope everyone is doing ok out there. Fall is in the air here in Colorado now, as the days temps have taken a plunge. I love this time of the year, the heat of the summer pretty much gone and the air is so fresh. Today is a weird day, it's the last day I am 39....it feels odd to say that. Just kind of surreal. The coming days will not see me as active around DA as I have personal issues on this website as far as they relate to me to take care of. No it isn't anything serious, but I have to get things organized and under control as far as it relates to my message center as it is a complete mess and has become a source of stress at this point. It certainly shouldn't be anything like that, but it is. So I am going to solve that problem over the next few days. As fast as I can.
This morning I want to share a few things with you all. I get asked this question a lot by people who want to know how
Text Beside Icons on the Desktop - NautilusI've decided to re-write this little tutorial for those who are interested in a more "Mac Feel" on the gnome Desktop.Text Beside Icons on the Desktop - Nautilus3 years ago in Personal More Like This
First, open terminal and write:
apt-get source nautilus
sudo apt-get build-dep nautilus
The build-dep command will install all the build dependencies for nautilus.
In nautilus sorce folder you just downloaded, navigate to: src\file-manager.
Find the file named: fm-desktop-icon-view.c
Open with your favorite Text Editor and find the line:
real_supports_labels_beside_icons (FMIconView *view)
Below it you'd see this line: return FALSE;
Change it to:
On GNOME3 and Nautilus 3.x+ search for the file: /src/nautilus-desktop-icon-view.c in the directory you just downloaded.
And look for this line: "supports-labels-beside-icons", FALSE,
Change FALSE to TRUE
Save the file.
Now start to compile Nautilus.
sudo make install
Choose Text Beside Icons in the Preferences.
Nautilus now should draw Text beside ico

[MacType] New font smoother for windowsHeya folks,[MacType] New font smoother for windows4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I don't know about you, but I was always sick of the default windows font rendering, that's why I used GDI++ with Windows XP and GDIpp with Win7, until a few months ago GDIpp worked great, but then there where a lot of compatibility issues (Google Chrome/Firefox).
Now I found this http://www.mediafire.com/?8cnc6v7z7w4e647 on a chinese board http://bbs.themex.net/forumdisplay.php?f=88 (yeah yeah yeah, at least with google translate I could read something )
Works awesome and you can switch language, still a pretty shitty translation, but great tools to create configs and it runs as a service.
Check it out

It seems the Force has truly Awoken, at least it has here on DeviantArt.
It has been one week since the teaser trailer for the first of the Disney owned Star Wars movies was released. Twitter and Facebook nearly broke under the deluge of postings of the trailer and frame by frame commentary of it. Each commentator hoping to spot something everyone else had missed.

How correctly install GDIPPHi, i receive a lot of messages by people who want install GDIPP( cause GDI++ is crappy!!), so here is the good way:How correctly install GDIPP4 years ago in Personal More Like This
➊ Install GDIPP 0.7.6 in Registry( not in services, you will see it during the installation) , download: http://code.google.com/p/gdipp/downloads/list
➋ Copy the 2dll's in "C:\Program Files\gdipp" to "C:\Windows\system32"( for 64 users: 4 dll's: "sytem32"( for 64 bit dll's)+"syswow64"( for 32 bit dll's) ), like: http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/423903436372Capture.png
➌ Restart( done)
Edit ( 12 oct 2012):
Now, i use 0.9.1 version, it works better and no replacement of dll needed ( only install it and go..!), if you use Firefox or other: uncheck "material acceleration..." in Firefox ( or other) options!!
If some characters look a little craps in some applications: make an exeption in "C:\Program Files (x86)\gdipp\gdipp_setting.xml" with your notepad.
The Full Folio ListingsHi all my lovely watchers. As you know I've been somewhat of a busy bee lately with all the art I've been pumping out.The Full Folio Listings1 year ago in Personal More Like This
This isn't just because I like drawing (though I do like making art) But more so because an artist has got to make a living ya know :iconsweatingplz:
And thus I've made this Journal to keep all my uploads nice and neat by getting rid of all those link I've been putting under them and making it easier to upload so I'll only have to put one or two links in them from now on.
Speaking of those links. I don't know how many of you guys actually read artist descriptions but as I've said I'm trying to make a living off from working as an artist and all those links you've been seeing (If you've actually been paying attention) are my many and various fully completed portfolios for purchase that I've made. They are all available on a website called Lulu and I hope you would all take a look at them. Each portfolio contains the pictures I've uploaded here but larger and with all
Some Drawing Advice!I've been talking to some people recently who are either beginning artists or get easily discouraged by "more talented artists," and to those people, I'd love to give some advice! Some Drawing Advice!4 years ago in Personal More Like This
As for tips, this is gonna probably sound so cliche but practice, practice, practice! A lot of beginner artists get really intimidated because they will often try to jump into something and expect it to be AMAZING right away and become discouraged and upset when it doesn't. Even if your first few pictures don't turn out so well, the experience you gain from drawing each one will help you learn so quickly. You'll start to pick up on the methods and things about the style that you do and don't like, and eventually you'll just start doing things by heart and making stuff up along the way. Just remember that not everything has to be *perfect* because if you have that mentality, you'll never get anything done! If you're stuck on something for a long time, it's perfectly okay to do something else and if you feel li

The Witchas Multifaceted Icon
Throughout history artists of every discipline have been fascinated, inspired and transfixed at every historical stage of the shifting perceptions of the “Witch” in any given time or society. The seams within every page of every chapter written against or in defense of the witch have been alternatively filled with oppressive sexism, blind eyed religious bigotry, occult doctrine, fevered and forbidden lustful sexuality, misplaced fear, and reams of wide eyed superstition.
Consequently, the colors, and lines within every stroke upon every canvas and visceral depiction, carry all the burdensome weight of the long intricacies of this subject. With respect to this much maligned, religiously and politically repurposed, perpetually misunderstood subject
Q and A: Basic Photoshop BrushesYou could view this blog entry on my site as well: http://thousandskies.com/blog/2012/11/10/qa-basic-photoshop-brushesQ and A: Basic Photoshop Brushes3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Once in a while people will ask me what kind of brush that I used in photoshop. I kept meaning to make this kind of post so I could explain it better. So if you guys have anymore question about photoshop I will be glad to answer it and make another Q&A post.
1. WHAT TYPE OF BRUSH DO YOU USE, IS IT BASIC BRUSH OR A CHALK TYPE BRUSH?
+ Ink Brush: http://static.squarespace.com/static/506a168ce4b00f5f2f4b48ad/t/509f0175e4b05a733d1030bc/1352597878435/brushes_ink.JPG The first brush I used is Hard Round brush and I started with 9 Pixels in size. Make sure under the Window> Brushes> Shape Dynamics> Size Jitter's Control is under Pen Pressure. This brush is useful for inking and blocking basic colors.
