Rather than dump a pile of these all at once I'm spacing them out going into the new year. For Febuary we have another new FOIL paint, this one the sleek Oshen Atha Dharma sporting what ended up a sorta Zeta Plus homage color scheme (wasn't the plan just ended up that way) in grays and blues.
This guy is another collaboration, of sorts, between myself and as Karl actually came up with the forward head design (the head apart from the housing cowl. It can pop out and forward). When I sent him an early WIP he asked, "Can I has doodle?" and I was, "Go for it". The result was the head design so I kept it pretty much unchanged.
Initially posted as line art you can see the line-work here: [link]
The 5th gen Oshen Atha Dharma RES-CM is FOIL design evolution at it's apex. The result of over a century of FOIL development all converging on this bold new direction to meet an even bolder and more dangerous threat than ever before. Once again we have a FOIL with the naming conventions directly influenced by the growing sendai Hindai movement. The Atha Dharma is aptly named wedding the common understanding of the term Dharma, as "duty" with the true meaning of Dharma; natural law. The Faedi face duty with the unyielding honor and Oshen has always expressed design philosophy as "in concert with the natural flow". Some of that philosophy is reflected in some cryptic Latin passages on the FOIL markings.
Oshen is a company renowned for the finest taedus systems in the SOL system and their highly sought after custom combat FOILs. Any pilot skilled, enough to bond with an Oshen FOIL, as his combat frame, would be confronted with great caution on the battlefield. Oshen had always been a company manufacturing, one of a kind, custom masterworks but the situation that confronted Polemos during the "Siege of the Black Son" changed all that rather dramatically. As the looming threat, that facilitated the evolution of FOILs into the 5th generation, approached Oshen took a proactive leading role in developing the technologies that became synonymous with the 5th gen FOILs. It could be said that Oshen was responsible for the 5th gen evolution. This was the first time Oshen mass produced their products but they did so with no less emphasis on the finest quality and reliability. Although mass produced Oshen's flair for visual design still shines through as mutated deco pastiches are seen subtly throughout.
One of the few mass produced FOILs by Oshen themselves (not including machines made in collaboration with other companies like Dies) the Atha Dharma is an incredibly formidable FOIL. The machine, like the (previously posted) Nal-Farbute (also by Oshen partnered with Dies) is equipped with a powerful RES counter measures sensor array and radome. A common feature of 5th gen FOILs are these new, enigmatic, jamming devices, but jamming what? That's for another time.

The Sunflower space colony was the first of the three to be completed, to serve and assist the construction of the other two space colonies of Project Earth. In spite of the failure of that global effort, Sunflower remained and became one of the economic hubs of the late 2400s.
As the UEPC gained prominence on the earth, some of the leaders on the Sunflower satellite began to fear that the earth would turn their military attentions to space. With no experience in constructing Axels of their own, a low-intensity project was started to create an axel design of their own to serve as one part of a space defense force. Even though Sunflower managed to ultimately become part of the UEPC, the Axel designs were completed and put on file. It remained indexed under the Sunflower manufacturing production code- SP (Self-produced) design 338. Model-A was the completed blueprints.
Over the years a few private inventors found the design and created their own models, which are broadly classified as B models. C is given to a half-hearted design to convert the unit into a construction assistance machine for the Veladus plan on Palifca (which called for the placement of huge solar pannels in an effort to export microwave energy).
The Mydeea would have remained a fantasy if the Agitators had not risen to power on Sunflower. The Magnate called for the formation of a self-defense army on the justification that Sunflower would have to protect itself from the rising global unrest already causing the UEPC problems. The Mydeea plans were revived and brought into full production.
The D model is considered the most modern version of the Mydeea and is the 'true' version. It lacks some new innovations in Axel technology within the past twenty years (ballistics jackets, gloves), but in performance trials it appears to be a balance between the land-only KR-14 series and both versions of the MN-18.
Actually found this axel in my files and decided to clean it up and finish it off.
After the disappointing performance of the AM-38 “Roosevelt”, the United States Defense Department turned to private contractors to construct a mainstay medium-weight Axel to serve in the United States forces. They turned to longtime Axel manufacturer Bishop Ranch in Alamo, Texas, to produce a satisfactory unit to fill the needs of the United States.
Declassified documents fifty years later show that Defense Secretary Robert Hull personally visited the design team, laying out specific qualifications of the unit that appear almost prescient for the years to come, even though the Vanderberg administration would be powerless to affect it.
AM-40 completed a record development time and became the favored Axel of American pilots. Named after both the 40th President of the United States and Hero of the third world war, General Jerry Reagan, the Axel quickly established a legendary reputation of durability. One story from the Mexican containment war tells of two halves from two separate units mated together in the field, where it finished the campaign with five more confirmed kills.
This remarkable forgiveness of the unit and the adaptations placed on it would keep the AM-40 from fading into history in the coming years. Beginning with severe cutbacks of the Defense budget by the Harver administration in 2452, further AM-40 development came to a screeching halt as the defense department tried just to keep their fleet operational.
The unit would see action like never before in the years following 2454. Following years of crippling economic debt and staggering domestic spending, President Lewis Harver passed an Executive order giving power to the United Earth Unified Assembly. This was to ‘Assist in renovating and rejuvenating the economy of this great nation, to restore and balance spending in the wake of gross negligence by the private sector.”
Everyone aware of what was really happening knew the UEUA had effectively gained control of the last hold-out against the world power, and scrambled for whatever independence they could secure. In spite of Government mandates restricting arms to private citizens, many groups and assemblies of citizens collected axels to resist the “lawful invasion” by the United Earth Peace Corps. At the forefront of this resistance was the AM-40 from all branches of American armed service. They would prove superior against the recently-developed KR-14, which is largely to thank for their continued survival.
Resistance would continue even fifty years later where AM-40s would be sighted alongside KR-14-P7s in the Global Resistance forces. None of them remain in stock configuration. The greatest concentration of the AM-40 was believed to be with the “Cowboys” operating out of the Basin and range Deserts in North America. They would see a massive comeback in 2512 when the Global Resistance forces launched an operation to Steal MF-00 from the UEPC. Some are said to remain on the moon in Clavius base where they are lovingly maintained by their crews.
No other Axels have been developed natively in the United States since the AM-40. Since all American axel manufacturers have been acquired by the government to produce licensed designs, the AM-40 represents the last of a continuous family of American Axels since the AM-5 Eisenhower.
Modern Axels take a page out of GenocidalPenguin's book, which is not a bad thing. But I wanted to create the Last American Unit before the UEPC takeover, so I thought it was a nice idea to reference the older cupps-era Axels.
Don't expect a lot of uploads in the next time. :/ I'm currently having a creative blockade and therefore focusing on other things like product design. This is a little robot friend, ideal for carrying lightbulbs as head, as mobile miniature greenhouse or aquarium. It was inspired by Nerd-Scribbles Terrarium Bots.
He was impressed with the OU series that he wanted a robot of his own. Took a while, but here it is, with three different armament configurations.
From L to R, LF-2X: Lunar Frame Experimental (The prototype) UGI-2'P': Pirate Lunar Frame (like the P7 model Axel, used by insurgents). UGI-2M: Military-use version (Task Force Damocles colors).
Alex tells me the design was created by bored engineers on the moon who watched too much Anime. The parts are crafted out of processed lunar rock by a 3D printing machine. With fuel assistance they can reach orbit, but unassisted they can leap pretty high. Most fighting done with the Usagi is hand-to-hand though.
